***French proto-punk worship by members of THE FATALS. Blazing, in-the-red guitar leads and swaggering grooves grind in the general direction of Les Stooges, minus Iggy's unhinged nihilism, but you also gotcher '60s garage pop feel all over the place, a la Nuggets. An understated instrumental, "The Axeman Cometh" could have come from a B-movie scored by a Morricone-led surf band. Continuing on, Kick of Kiss includes a tropical shuffle with echo-y, drifting guitars and an anthemic Britpop chorus; and for good measure, another dose of Asheton-worshipping garage punk.
