***TUTUPATU, founded by Tomas Garrido, Matías Tangerina, and Olivares, fuses their diverse musical backgrounds in classical, jazz, rock, electronic, experimental noise, drones, and ethnic music. After more than a year of dedicated rehearsals, they've meticulously crafted a unique sound that invites exploration. Their collective aim is to shape an auditory landscape that defies convention, drawing inspiration from trance-inducing repetition—a musical odyssey transcending genres, resonating with the eclectic blend of their individual influences. Through their explorations, they guide listeners on an introspective journey into uncharted realms. The band’s desire to capture TUTUPATU’s essence led them to secure an underground location in Madrid, where they set up a private recording studio. They locked themselves for a 72-hour recording session. They aimed for unfiltered creativity: 32 tracks rolling at all times, doors locked, lights dimmed, and volume cranked. The result? A mesmerizing blend of motorik drums, throbbing basslines, howling guitars, wailing saxophones, ethereal synths, and a myriad of flutes and folk instruments intricately woven into their debut album, “IV.” Comprising five expansive tracks, this collection immerses the listener in an auditory journey, guiding through intricate inner landscapes, transcending conventional musical boundaries. The album serves as a sonic memoir, encapsulating five distinct moments, blending krautrock, synth ambient, noise, and free jazz. Each track beckons the listener into dreamlike soundscapes, creating a truly immersive experience.

***Never one to pull inventive punches, Left Coast electronic music producer DAVE AJU reassembled this notorious cast of characters for a remarkably fitting album package made during one of the most strange times our world has ever faced in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic. While things were essentially shutdown, reopened, cycle-repeat worldwide, and every other species in mother nature’s kingdom temporarily rejoiced while humans remained still in their caves, Aju and THE INVISIBLE ART TRIO, his formidable if not-seen-in-a-minute musical team behind such underground anthems as “Be Like the Sun”, went to work in the final days of the glorious G-Son studios in Atwater Village, LA to record this LP. Indeed, the same four/five walls and vocal booth that saw the Beastie’s iconic Check Your Head and Hello Nasty come to life, became the birthplace of Glossolalia, Aju’s fifth studio album and appropriately impressive seven-song set. As always, myriad musical styles and influences are strung together and boldly combined here, to the degree that drawing comparisons or attempting genre references feels futile. There are, however, clear visceral expressions of political provocation, hope and anger, fear and joy laid over twisted yet dedicated grooves in a lockdown era where Aju’s imaginary collective dance floor feels in the temporary absence thereof and bizarro sixth-world unification strategy of recording every song’s lyrics in complete non-languages aka total gibberish, feels right at home. Even the vocal guests join in the literal chant here, granting us diverse spell-casting and sensual nonsensical lyrical lines over...

***All Points Leaning In was made after a couple of years of GREG KELLEY (trumpet) and LORI GOLDSTON (cello) performing together often throughout the Pacific Northwest, as a duo and in various ensembles, usually in artist-run spaces and occasionally scoring silent films. Most often they play completely improvised; occasionally their work is loosely structured or composed. Both are classically trained, and known for exploring deeply textured, expansive sounds on the outer edges of their instruments, drawn to pushing past the point of stability into less controllable threshold states. All Points Leaning In was recorded at the home studio of producer STEVE FISK, who contributes a legendarily fine, bold ear and originality. It was tracked live, through amplifiers and effects pedals, without overdubs or looping. The sound is visceral and airy, droney and densely layered, ecstatic and precise.

***"Nestled deep in the forests of Mendocino County in Northern California, huddled under the protective shade of towering redwoods and within earshot of frothy waves crashing against the Pacific coastline, squats a geodesic dome that has served as crucible for the experimental genius of Carlton Melton. Nature and Man operate under different logics. But here, Carlton Melton wholly entrusts this idyllic environment with the task of inspiring + guiding their musical improvisations. The Dome has been the ideal setting to facilitate their creativity. Without forcing a specific dynamic or theme, the band inhabits its womb-like confines to improvise, explore, dream. Their music draws on psychedelia, stoner metal, krautrock, and ambient atmospherics to convey, above all else, a mood. A prickly guitar melody will float lazily, a wall of dissonant feedback will resolve into a hypnotic drone, or a colossal riff will exhume the soul of Jimi Hendrix. One hears Hawkwind or Spacemen 3 jamming with Pink Floyd at Pompeii."—Eric Bensel, Paris 2020

Digital Exposure by Dreckig

Dreckig

Digital Exposure
Broken Clover

***Growing up in México and Germany, Papi Fimbres and Shana Lindbeck's destiny led them to meet in Portland, OR. Wanting to honor their heritages in a new and collaborative way, they set out to form DRECKIG, which means dirty in German. Both deeply influenced by Cumbia's melodious rhythms and German electronic compositions, they have created their own unique sound within that realm. Using all vintage drum machines and synthesizers, these elements are combined & envisioned in the studio, then brought to the stage in a mystical, dance club frenzy. For Dreckig's third album, Papi Fimbres and Shana Lindbeck once again collaborated with Pinewave Studio's Johann Wagner. Utilizing the studio's impressive array of vintage drum machines, synthesizers and modulars, their favorites being the Roland 808, DMX & Moog Voyager, they created Digital Exposure.

***"Fulu Kolektiv, is a sister initiative to the Fulu Miziki based in the capital city of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The Kolektiv was cemented during the COVID pandemic. Fulu’s artists have always been used to working outdoors, but when the pandemic hit everyone, things changed. We found ourselves with very limited access to open spaces, so the whole collective decided to look for an alternative way of making music (ie: turning into computers) and have managed to put together this music being released on this album (Lualaba). This Kolektiv is not only formed with band members of Fulu Miziki, but it’s open to everyone who has healing music and values the environment. For most of us, this was just a ‘’waoouuu’ moment when we discovered this unlimited way of making music from a computer. Many of us never knew about this music software and the amount of sounds you can get out of it. We took this opportunity to bring you these sounds. We hope you enjoy and love them, and you’ll listen to them with a fresh ear and that you experience the same effect we had when we discovered them. This album is the debut of the Kolektiv. It transmits the deep imagination of our mind and has songs that are from very different inspirations. At the moment, this album has work from artists who are born in the Democratic Republic of Congo. A country known for its large music composition & it’s church influences, most of...

Broken Clover

***NOW AVAILABLE!!! "Revisionist: Adaptations & Future Histories in the Time of Love and Survival, June of 44’s first release in 21 years, might be the most bipolar document you encounter in 2020. The record features at least two or three BRILLIANT re-workings of Anahata-era offerings; these tracks are some of the best stuff we have heard from June of 44 in a long time. Here, the band unleashes its rivers of sound in truly enviable fashion, aestheticizing meditativeness in a way they did like few other post-rock bands of the ‘90s..."—Spectrum Culture

Gold Country / Country Gold by Secret Emchy Society

Secret Emchy Society

Gold Country / Country Gold
Broken Clover

***From the first notes of the lead-off track to Secret Emchy Society’s new album, Gold Country / Country Gold, you realize that you’re not in Kansas anymore. It’s a gothy, spaghetti western version of “Cowboys Are Frequently, Secretly Fond Of Each Other,” written by Latin country musician Ned Sublette but popularized by Willie Nelson. It’s also widely recognized as the first LGBT-themed mainstream country song by a major artist. Par for the course if you know Cindy Emch’s previous work. As the First Lady of Queer Country, she is known for her distinct voice and ability to blend Americana, California Country, Hellbilly, Goth, and Honky Tonk, spinning radically distinctive tales from her singular perspective. Emchy’s not only a highly regarded musician in the Bay Area—nominated three times for Best Local LGBT Band by Bay Area Reporter—but she’s also a seasoned student of the history of LGBTQA musicians dipping their toes in genres that have always been “off-limits” for non-hetero participants. She was the founding editor of Country Queer and still hosts Gimme Country’s popular Emchy’s Outlaw Americana show. "Gold Country / Country Gold from Secret Emchy Society is brilliant, delicate, and fucking hilarious. If you think Emchy is a country singer, she is. If you think she’s a poet, she is. The breadth and depth of her lyrics are astonishing. The album itself revolves around how people pull together and come apart, it’s about being human and the rollercoaster that involves. She evokes dramatic mood swings throughout the entire release,...

Orpheo Nebula by Torpedo

Torpedo

Orpheo Nebula
Broken Clover

***Founded in 2016 in the Swiss city of Lausanne, Torpedo is made up of Carole Obère, on vocals and guitar, Jérôme Diserens, on bass and keyboard, and Andries Pfammater on drums. The group draws its energy from its beginnings in an industrial, post-apocalyptic and rough universe approaching no-wave and kraut with a touch of punk, while clinging to the force of wild nature carrier of hope. Orpheo_ Nebula is a piece built around six poems. A combination of noise rock, industrial, '70s influences, flirting with sludge, a few drones waves, feedback in different production methods, the psychedelia of words, sometimes spoken, sometimes spat or howled that every now and then ventures to caress grindcore. The guitars unfold in chiseled layers, clouds of light fuzz or sharp riffs. At times, atmosphere fly like fluorescent ghosts. The bass lines carry trance, powerful and purring now feline and again fiery, shaking the structure of the pieces. The drum, whose play is subtle and powerful, hit the tempo on a shining translation of the emotions of each moment.
