***Radio Heat is the sophomore album from Desiree Cannon and a step further into her world of constellations, waterways, and cosmic omens. Like her debut LP, Beach Sleeper, the album is a cohesive, yet diverse collection of songs that each act as a doorway to access the sonic multiverse of the record. You could step into the album through the dark, Lynchian ballad Latigo, the sparkling surf-inspired track Tower, or the modern, heartworn waltz Fault Line, and each would serve as a proper introduction into Desiree’s vibrant, intentional collection of songs. The album is unified around the core concept of Radio Heat—a collective electrical energy that is perpetually transferring human emotions through space and time, and our ability to transform that energy through acts of beauty, intention, and art. In this way, Radio Heat as a concept and an album transmutes pain—in its many guises—into song. While Cannon’s country influences and songwriting inspirations are interwoven throughout the album, Radio Heat stretches to include a multitude of musical styles, and is ultimately a soundtrack for the present day, looking towards a future where grief is shed and beauty abounds.

***Shasta is the product of an experiment in limitations and creative self-control. Recorded with solar power on a Tascam 388 and remaining true to only the 8 available tracks, these sessions were often late nights around the wood stove in a small hillside studio in Big Sur. The sessions resulted in Levi’s most tender record to date; sung low and slow with vocals and acoustic guitar up front, and trading the double tracked guitar solos of earlier albums for syrupy pedal steel and piano. Shasta pays respect to the record in its truest form—a complete narrative from start to finish, meant to conjure the most terrifying human emotion and hopefully bring it some peace.

***Time Turns Everything is the first full-length LP from Mikayla McVey and her second studio collaboration with producer, arranger, multi-instrumentalist, & deep space explorer James Wallace aka SKYWAY MAN. The album is a staggering work of heartache & healing that takes a spiraling & personal pass at answering a very old question: where does love go when it dies? And furthermore… can love ever die? It looks at the heart, the lover, and the process through a range of musical kaleidoscopes, and ultimately delivers a meditation on the power of time to transform pure grief into melody, poetry, vibration, and medicine for the future.  The sound and composition of Time Turns Everything was, in many ways, a result of the state of the world over the last 2 years - it was recorded in the “safety” of isolation booths, at several sessions in separate studios, and with a multitude of long-time friends & talented musicians that probably wouldn’t have been available had circumstances been different. Time Turns Everything was produced by James Wallace, engineered by Miles Lassi at Skyline Studios (Oakland, CA) & James Wallace at Huge Planet (Nashville, TN), mixed by Jake Davis at Seismic Sound (Nashville, TN), and mastered by JJ Golden at Golden Mastering (Ventura, CA). The album features performances by: Sam Doores (The Deslondes) on drums, Danny Vitali (Alex Bleeker, Kelly McFarling) on bass, Alan Parker (Spacebomb) on electric guitar, James Wallace on keyboards, guitars, & vibraphone, Mat Davidson (twain, Big Thief, Courtney Marie Andrews)...

***All The Way West—Sitka Sun's sophomore release—is both a carefully composed instrumental jazz album and a spaced-out contemplation on the human condtion. It exists at the intersection of rhythmic prowess, psychedelic experimentation, & jazz sensibility, intentionally asking more questions than it's willing to answer throughout its 32 minute lifespan. Incomparison to Sitka Sun's eponymous debut, All The Way West steps ever deeper into the intricacies of composition and the adventurous spirit of improvisation, and is anticipated to be well-received by jazz enthusiasts, rare groove collectors, beat makers, and record store clerks alike. AllThe Way West is music for right now, as we come out of 2020 and hopefullyinto a changing world: it encourges reflection, inspires movement, & welcomes new growth. All The Way West was composed, arranged, and produced by Patrick Murphy, mixed by Angelo Paradiso (Black Bear Recording), and mastered by JJ Golden (Golden Mastering). The album features a roster of seasoned musicians, including Patrick Murphy (bass, guitars, percussion), Angelo Paradiso (keyboards, guitars), Poh Teng (drums), Dave Millen (triumpet), Aaron Kruziki (woodwinds), Andy Lambert (synthesizers), Andrew Kunz (piano), Evan Hiller (pedal steel), & Matt Goff (percussion).

***In their debut album Last Spring, DAWN RIDING has crafted a project that is somehow fierce, intimate, outlaw, passionate, and psychedelic, all at the same time. Having cut their teeth in basements, underground venues, and punk houses around the country, it only made sense for Dawn Riding’s debut to come to life in a dusty mid-fi recording studio run out of a San Francisco garage. The eight psych-tinged songs that came out of the Last Spring sessions unveil the stories of songwriter SARAH ROSE JANKO's fabled friendships, renegade icons, and uncompromising ethos, and serve as a perfect introduction to Dawn Riding’s dreamy, gritty sound. It’s an album for loners & relentless romantics, full of emotional casualties, resilient heroes, and living close to the edge. Dawn Riding is Sarah Rose Janko (lead vocal/acoustic guitar), HALL MCCANN (harmony vocal/electric guitar), and JASMYN WONG (drums).

***In her debut release, Beach Sleeper, DESIREE CANNON leaves everything on the studio floor—the studio, in this case, is the living room of a 1920s Oakland house littered with records and a variety of 1970s and '80s analog recording equipment. She invites you in, offers you a glass of whiskey, and then proceeds to read every page of her diary from the last 10 years and burn each one in the brick fireplace. The recording of Beach Sleeper was an extension of her life, which these days is lived mostly between the industrial shoreline and the dimly-lit corners of Oakland. The album was recorded with friends, in a comfortable space, with a focus on capturing a true experience. Beach Sleeper is all sides of Desiree’s songwriting and spirit: the sparse country ballad, “Low Flyin’ Angel,” the soulful '50s heartbreak anthem, “Oh Darlin,” the haunting psychedelic saga, “Train Man,” and the heavy, yet sparkling, “Mountain Lion Mama.” The album is heart-worn, complicated, and raw—it’s recommended for anyone who understands the complexity of human emotion and isn’t afraid to cry. Beach Sleeper is produced by Desiree Cannon & NATE MAHAN (Shannon & the Clams), engineered by KIT CENTER (Long Road Society), mixed by GREG ASHLEY (The Creamery), and features Nate Mahan, WILL SPROTT, ELIAS REITZ, PATRICK MUPRHY and AVIVA LIPKOWITZ.

***Lovesick is a sad, romantic journey through a beautiful waking dream. It’s both the dark end of the street, and the promise of a stunning sunset. It’s the gut-wrenching feeling when you know that your love won’t last forever. It’s the song of the mourning dove—beautiful, somber, and resigned to a future of longing. Capturing the magic of Lovesick brought AVIVA and her talented band of friends up to the rolling, oak-studded hills of Mendocino, CA. Four hot summer days and nights were spent digging into the dry Northern California grasslands, and seeking refuge from the sun to make music inside a traditionally hand-built Japanese Shinto cabin. Inside those handmade walls, Lovesick was born: an album of dreamy, lonesome, soulful anthems made for nights by a fireplace, days in the breaking fog, and people willing to feel the depths of heartache. Features performances by: MATT GOFF (MARTY O'REILLY & THE OLD SOUL ORHCESTRA) on drums, PATRICK MURPHY (SILKA SUN() on bass, LORENZO LOERA (CALIFORNIA HONEYDROPS) on keys, INAIAH LUJAN (THE HAUNTED WINDCHIMES, IN/PLANES) on guitar, and JOSIAH JOHNSON (THE HEAD & THE HEART) and CHELSEA COLEMAN on background vocals.
