"FRANCESCO [FERORELLI, singer] is my favorite kind of songwriter: sensitive but not sappy, smart but not precious," Houck says. "He has the ability to casually sneak complex imagery and metaphor into a deceptively simple package. It's just great songwriting. Simple as that." These are songs for the zeros, for the down-and-out playing their last hand, desperately hoping to pull an ace from their sleeve but coming up empty-handed.
