***Looking for an American Delia Derbyshire? you might consider RUTH WHITE—who for man is the queen of early electronica. Her sounds were unique in their dark, experimental glory. Though Ruth White stated herself that she never tried to make creepy music, nonetheless, she did just that — "just to show what her equipment could do.” White's entire discography is an excellent choice for those interested in exploring the history of electronic music. A golden treasury of twenty-four good night songs, soft and soothing "for quiet or nap time," selected from the most beautiful traditional music the world has to offer and sung by two great artists: American mezzo-soprano Marilyn Horne recipient of the National Medal of Arts, the Kennedy Center Honors, and winner of four Grammy Awards; and Richard Robinson, who premiered Igor Stravinsky's "In Memoriam: Dylan Thomas," "Threni" and "Elegy for J.F.K.," and recorded many works under the composer's direction for Columbia Records. Includes lyrics. Arrangements by Ruth White. A bit straight compared to the other discs — perhaps because it was released in the sad and pathetic pre-Moog days of 1955 — but should be appealing to those who like quiet and nap time… you know who you are… and we all know that there is nothing wrong with either concept.
