Ghost In Scow Out by Gasp

Ghost In Scow Out
Black Horizons

***Featured on a diverse pedigree of splits with the likes of Noothgrush, Deerhoof, Volume 11, Suffering Luna, of course not to mention their seminal "Drome Triller..." LP, released on the highly revered, defunct Slap A Ham label; GASP has returned! Black Horizons is proud to release in a vinyl edition the out of print Ghost In Scow Out CDr. Supplemented and remastered into glorious fidelity for LP. Here the band, if possible, has only gotten even weirder; sounding not unlike the spaciest psych bands, however with a grind band sitting in to jam with. Which makes sense, as the band has taken to calling their sound "psych violence". A genre that one would expect layered with blast beats, howls and shrieks, tripped out tape loops and syrupy synths, a form the band has fully realized at this point. In a scene with many eccentric acts, GASP always managed to hold the title of the weirdest, and they haven't changed one bit in that regard. Each side in classic GASP fashion ends in a lock groove. Full color LP jackets with neon green internal flood print. 8 page full color half-size booklet insert. Plain black inner sleeves. Color center labels. Edition of 300 copies.

***The follow up to LEILA ABDUL-RAUF's (VASTUM, CARDINAL WYRM, HAMMERS OF MISFORTUNE) 2015 highly acclaimed debut Insomnia, Diminution sees the Bay Area based, multi-instrumentalist take a more stripped-down approach to her uniquely haunting and shadowy soundscapes. While retaining a firm grasp on the feeling of urban loneliness and early morning solitude, Diminution’s tracks are generally longer than previous works and feel more spacious and open, where sparse melodies and gentle textural flow meet ethereal choral vocals, distant trumpet, delicate guitar, and luminous, yet melancholy drones and warm tonal drift. Another spellbinding work from Leila for those seeking solace in quiet and introspective music residing just on edge of consciousness. Edition of 150 copies on black vinyl. Co-release with Cloister Recordings. CD on Malignant.

***In 2016, Baltimore’s THE HOLY CIRCLE released a 4 song cassette EP. There, members TERENCE HANNUM (of LOCRIAN) on synths and vocalist ERICA BURGNER-JANNUM (of UNLUCKY ATLAS) solidified The Holy Circle as more than just a side project. The group is now a trio and 2017 brings us their first proper full-length and features NATHAN JURGENSON (ex-SCREEN VINYL IMAGE) on drums. The self-titled release was recorded in Baltimore with J. ROBBINS (Dismemberment Plan, Ponytail, Roomrunner). Thanks to their eclectic pedigree, The Holy Circle have created a world of sound all their own, this LP finds them pushing themselves musically and emotionally. There are hints of Sade, Joy Division, Patty Waters, and the darkest edges of Wierd Records. Split Release with Anathemata Editions & Cloister Recordings. Edition of 250 on transparent Orange Crush 12" Vinyl LP. Full Color Sleeve, Matte Stock, black flood interior on jacket, black sleeve. Comes with digital download.

***A superb pairing of new and old become anew once again. The Viennese duo NOVY SVET is making music after an extended silence, and this 7" is the first new material available besides a very scarcely distributed yet excellent split 7" with Susa24 (member from Santa Espina, see BH-76). The sounds that emanate from the pair of JÜRGEN WEBER and frl. tost are extremely unorthodox for the dark folk milieu, in that they are not afraid to reach out in many non-traditional directions; multi-lingual lyrics, broad genre bending and meshing, and an over-all style that could be perceived as rather modern, a perfect fit for the curatorial standards of Black Horizons. SPETTRO FAMILY, from Milan, Italy, is a new project that has quickly gained attention, and rightfully so, as he has his own unique Mediterranean take on cinematic prog horror scapes. Edition of 500 copies. Sleeve is printed with silver and gold ink on black linen card stock. The faces on the cover are of JARBOE and JESSICA WAY (WORM OUROBOROS, BARREN HARVEST) and are photos that were taken at the 2013 Stella Natura Festival. The inspiration for the layout theme comes from a specific scene in Ingmar Bergman's Persona. Silver on black labels.

***A rather appropriate unearthing takes place on this record, as YELLOW SWANS are posthumously paired up with Chicago's OAKEATER. First up is Yellow Swans, with a single side-long track that should please fans of their later, brighter more psychedelic sound as well as those of the more rigid, structured and even melodic sound found on their final LP. Masterfully mixing huge guitars, shards of mixer feedback and discreet loops. Oakeater on the flip side performs the funerary rights with three tracks that fall somewhere between a satanic ritual and a cosmic synth trip, with meditative vocals, throbbing synthesizers, and distant piano lines. On the label and art/design end this was a collaborative effort between Black Horizons and Dead Accents. Comes packaged in a custom euro-style sleeve, offset silver ink on black linen paper. Black vinyl with silver on black center labels in an edition of 500 copies.
