***BACK IN SOCK!!! THE FALL's Are You Are Missing Winner album recorded during the summer of 2001. There are ten new compositions by the mad Mancunian musicians including a brilliant cover of the Motown classic "Gotta See Jane." The Fall are probably one of the UK's most prolific bands and their output since their formation in 1976 amounts to between twenty-five and thirty albums and all are unique.

***A reissue of the classic In A Hole album recorded in Aukland, New Zealand on four-track reel-to-reel by CHRIS KNOX (TALL DWARFS), and originally released by Flying Nun in 1982. Widely considered the band’s definitive live album, both in quality of recording, performance and material, it is the final recording of the era’s line-up, as MARC RILEY was sacked as soon as the band returned to England. This re-mastered, updated version includes all the tracks from the original release, as well as the songs from a bonus 12-inch (a companion piece to the original pressing), and six additional tracks recorded elsewhere on the same New Zealand tour.

Seventeen tracks in all taken from the Telephone Thing, Popcorn Double Feature (both versions), White Lightning, High Tension Line, So What About It, Free Range, and the Ed's Babe EPs. Packaged with liner notes on the songs by CONWAY PATON.

***THE FALL's excellent sixth album features long, shambolic shuffle classics like "Joker Hysterical Face," "Marquis Cha Cha," "A Hard Life in Country" plus the tracks from the "Lie Dream of a Casino Soul" single.

***NOW AVAILABLE DOMESTICALLY!!! Extricate was originally released in 1990. It was recorded after some serious personnel changes, as MARK E. SMITH's partner, guitarist and vocalist BRIX left him for NIGEL KENNEDY! Needless to say, Mark's lyrics acquired a new level of cynicism. Mark's sleeve notes say; "It is the culmination of stuff I've / we've held back or just wrote over and through the tendril wires and chaos of the last 14 months. The first half reflects on things witnessed and / or sensed, while the second half is NOW. The simplicity will confound all bores, imitators and anxiety mongers."

***Like Shiftwork, but not quite as easy-listening. "The Birmingham School Of Business School" … with that shimmery metallic sample…, "Free Range" and "Return" are punky (yet smooth) and memorable. The rest is more sedate … like a dentist's office. The last song is a bunch of drunken profanity, and nothing in this whole wide Christian world beats cussing. -markprindle.com

***[Originally released in 1991, Shift-Work reinvents] The Fall as easy listening. Smooth, almost non-existent guitar lines, gentle puffy production, dance-y drumming, Mark E. Smith actually singing.… Smooth dance and pop, most of it really pleasant. "Idiot Joy Showland," "Pittsville Direkt," "High Tension Line," and "You Haven't Found It Yet" are my dreamtime companions, but "The Book Of Lies" is … like Tom Jones or something.… The mood is a truly relaxing one.… More cohesive than Extricate, and a very interesting way to handle the post-Brix crisis. Never released in the U.S. -markprindle.com

***This recording captures the essence of THE FALL's early sound back when the band were on first name terms with a good percentage of the crowd. Whilst the charts were full of half-assed lovesongs and three-minute punk rock anthems, The Fall were writing marathon epics of alienation, paranoia and mystery. This is far from the usual pristine studio recording but is a gorgeous slide show from a disturbing, experimental past life which will appeal to the band's large and loyal fanbase.

***A top quality live recording of the FALL at their stunning, swaggering best. The band had been given the chance to perform material related to the rest of the rock music family, that is where tune, instruments and musicians melt into one. MARK E. SMITH, of course, has no time for such frippery and exhibits his traditional disregard for the "right" note from start to finish. The result is a hot and steaming slice from the only band in the world that's provided solid nourishment for the last two decades.

***A mixed bag of lost gems here, fresh versions with new insights and alternate sessions torn from the vaults. A vein of prime FALL '90s treasures. An orchestral, swirling version of "Hip Priest" balanced by an almost deranged "New Big Prinz." "Deadbeat Descendant" and "Why Are People Grudgeful" are casually tossed to the crowd whilst the all-time winner of the Amphetamine Anthem Prize, "Strychnine" is prefaced by the urgent enraged stuttering of 'encouragement' that won MARK E. SMITH the hearts of millions; "Come on! We're not waiting for fucking potheads! Come On!"

***Features tracks from Hex Enduction Hour and Room To Live. Captured here is an influencial and powerful performance, fronted by the twisted lyrical and vocal style of MARK E. SMITH, an NME Brat Lifetime Achievement Award winner.

***With everyone in the band on tip-toe, best behavior for the first night, MARK E. SMITH slouches across the stage to blurt, slur and soul-kiss the mic with a personal, and—by his standards—introverted set. Even so, THE FALL are pro musicians: experienced troupers who know you've got to give the public something to jump up and down to, and intermittent, rousing crowd pleasers such as "New Big Prinz," "Return" and "Everything Hurtz" punctuate the gig but even these come out a little thoughtful and misty-eyed. In short then, what we have here is another prime Fall live recording.
