Pass The Distance by Finn, Simon

Finn, Simon

Pass The Distance
Durtro / Jnana

***WAREHOUSE FIND!!! LAST COPIES AVAILABLE!!! Finally, an official reissue of this reality-challenged, 1970 British dark acid folk classic. Sounding like Tom Rapp on a horror trip, FINN sets out on a journey of nightmarish folk, which knows no appeasement. The mania shining through is greatly enhanced by the ability of multi-instumentalist DAVID TOOP to play several different songs simultaneously, seemingly without relation to the songs the other two are playing. Guitars appear in the wrong key, song structure is blissfully ignored. Four extra tracks and a lavish 20 page booklet with liner notes by Simon Finn, David Toop, Vic Keary (of Mushroom records who originally released the album) and David Tibet of Current 93

Digital Angel by Othon

Othon

Digital Angel
Durtro / Jnana

The long-awaited first album from alternative music's enfant terrible is finally here. With vocal performances by Marc Almond, David Tibet, and Ernesto Tomasini, and works that defy any pre-existing musical genre, this atypical debut is the manifestation of Othon's challenging, bold, and sensitive artistic vision. The pieces are mainly, though not exclusively, for voice and piano, with the production cut to a minimum, giving the album an intimate, almost live quality. Othon's compositions--a blend of opera, punk, noise, and lyrical romanticism--are proof of a rich and distinctive musical language. The songs deal with desperate love, human bio-chipping, addiction to violence, and 2012; they form a soundtrack to either a passionate love story or a post-apocalyptic nightmare.  Three tracks feature Almond on vocals, including a cover of Aleister Crowley's "The Tango Song" (the first time this song has ever been released); one track features Tibet on vocals, covering Coil's "The Dreamer Is Still Asleep"; and four tracks feature Tomasini on vocals.  Othon's highly original compositions, intelligent songwriting, and virtuosic piano playing has enthused audiences and critics alike. With only a limited self-released CD EP in his back catalogue, he has toured several European cities and received regular airplay on European and American radio shows. His pieces have formed soundscapes for films by Bruce LaBruce and Derek Jarman and he has collaborated with musicians such as Peter Christopherson, The Elysian Quartet (who guest on the album), and Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo. Digital Angel's original artwork and photography is by Hector de...

Forgiveness And Exile by Connelly, Chris

Connelly, Chris

Forgiveness And Exile
Durtro / Jnana

Forgiveness and Exile is Chris Connelly's ninth solo work, the follow-up to 2007's critically acclaimed The Episodes.  The album is again produced by Tim Kinsella (Cap'n Jazz, Joan of Arc), Ben Vida (Town and Country, Terminal 4, Bird Show), and Connelly himself, and the musicians comprise the same jazz and improvisational band that played on The Episodes. This time, however, Connelly's group is augmented by the addition of four of his oldest friends: David Miller (Fini Tribe), Shirley Manson (Garbage), David Tibet (Current 93), and actress Torri Higginson (The English Patient, Stargate Atlantis).  Apart from the opening song, "Arran," Forgiveness and Exile is basically one long piece divided into sections, an ever-changing and evolving meditation on war, displaced peoples, families shattered by corrupt governments, wrongful imprisonments, and torture. This impressionistic view is characterized through improvisation, dramatic change in dynamics, disparate imagery, ruined landscapes, and cities illustrated by Connelly's poetry.  The subject matter here is of course extremely dark, and it has not been taken in any way lightly by its author. In an attempt to move toward easing the plight of the millions of victims of torture the world over, all monies generated by Connelly for this project will go directly to the Marjorie Kovler Center for the Treatment of Survivors of Torture, providing medical, mental health, emergency, and other support services to help survivors overcome trauma so that they may start new lives.

Heart Of The Sun by Pantaleimon

Pantaleimon

Heart Of The Sun
Durtro / Jnana

"The whole thing started when Clodagh Simonds (Fovea Hex) asked if she could remix 'Under The Water.' Of course, I said yes. When she came back with such remarkable music, and casually mentioned, 'Oh, why don't you ask a couple of other pals to do remixes?', it gave me the idea for this album.   "It is not simply a remix album, but a collaborative project. I chose friends I admired as artists and who inhabit creative spaces that are connected in some way and on some level to me and to each other. I gave away my 'babies' to go out to play with the likes of Andrew W.K., Stephen O'Malley, Lilium, Carter Tutti, Colin Potter, Andrew Liles, The Bricoleur, Plinth, Fabrizio Modonese Palumbo (Larsen), and, of course, Fovea Hex. Even though I had an inkling that the mixes would fit together as one coherent whole, I had no idea just how much they would complement one another.   "There are also some previously unreleased tracks including a cover of Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's 'Even If Love,' which didn't quite make it on Mercy Oceans for aural reasons. However, this cover version has been gently manipulated and star-mangled by Susan Stenger (Band of Susans).   "Another of the unreleased tracks is our first collaboration with the group Strings of Consciousness. They wished to remix one of the songs from Mercy Oceans. I had no more songs left from the album so we created a new song just...

Gabriel and the Lunatic Lover is the first in a series of collaborative releases by Marc Almond and Michael Cashmore. The duo sets to music two poems by Count Stanislaus Eric Stenbock, the extraordinary 19th-century gay writer whose bizarre life of decadence, drug-addiction, alcoholism, and poetry--coupled with Satanic, vampiric, and Catholic obsessions--led to his early death at the age of 36 in 1895. Stenbock's final years, it is said, saw him accompanied everywhere by a life-size wooden doll that he called "le petit comte" and which he believed to be his son.  This two-track CDEP features vocals from the legendary Almond, who needs no introduction, and music composed and performed by Cashmore, well-known for his extensive catalog of recordings with Current 93 and Nature and Organisation, as well as for his work as a solo artist. The CD is housed in a beautiful full-color digipak that contains previously unpublished paintings of Almond by Russian artist Vania Soutavliov, a rare photograph of the enigmatic Count, and the complete texts to both poems.  The poems themselves originally appeared in two of Stenbock's fantastically rare volumes, Myrtle, Rue, and Cypress and The Shadow of Death, both republished in Current 93's David Tibet's Durtro Press volume The Collected Poems of Count Stenbock.  This is one of the most haunting and exquisite releases from either artist, and is presented in a package that fits the beautiful melancholy of the music, the vocals, and the spirit of Count Stenbock himself.

Sharron Kraus is a singer/musician/songwriter with a gift for beautiful and heartbreaking songs from a deep-seated storytelling mythology. Her music, rooted in the folk traditions of England and Appalachia, is characterized by soil-rich vocals, haunting banjo, fine acoustic guitar, and visionary word-craft. Kraus's songs are populated by a carnival array of fatally charismatic characters, telling tales of enslavement, perversion, incest, obsession, love and death, and her live performances are stark, compelling, and delicate. She is like the roving storyteller, bringing tales of terror, sadness and joy to a stranger's hearth on a dark and stormy night.  The Fox's Wedding, Kraus's stunning new album, offers eleven original songs and a cover of "Trice Toss These Oaken Ashes" written by Thomas Campion.   Kraus has been featured in The Wire, Dirty Linen, New Folk Sounds, Arthur Magazine, Ptolemaic Terrascope and Broken Face. She has been interviewed on BBC Radio 3 and recorded sessions for BBC Radio Scotland, Freakzone on Radio 6, and independent radio stations across the US. Her fanbase includes veteran folkies Shirley Collins and Archie Fisher as well as indie figureheads Michael Gira, David Tibet, and Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore.

When Good Things Happen to Bad Pianos is the wonderful new album from Little Annie, who returns, fresh from the success of Songs From the Coalmine Canary, with a more introspective album of cover versions. She and pianist Paul Wallfisch have recorded a batch of their favorite songs, rearranged in a duo setting.  2007 Levi ad featured the song "Strange Love" by Annie and Antony, generating a lot of interest in her catalog.  With this record, Little Annie takes her place as one of the premier torch singers around today!

Mercy Oceans is the long-anticipated second full-length from Andria Degens. The album follows the critically acclaimed Cloudburst EP released earlier this year, and features Baby Dee, Isobel Campbell, Keith Wood (Hush Arbors), and John Contreras.   Mercy Oceans is an album of exceptional beauty and depth. All ten tracks are stunningly captivating. The CD comes packaged in a beautiful digipak with a full-color booklet containing lyrics, along with artwork by Beth Carter and photography by Cam Archer.  “Andria Degens is based in Hastings, southern England, but the sparse clarity of her music as Pantaleimon seems to exist in its own unique, indefinable space.... Its vivid simplicity is, in its own quiet way, quite stunning.” —Tom Ridge, The Wire  “... Degens makes music which is so effortlessly gorgeous it almost defies belief. There is an icy simplicity to her compositions, a fragility or frailty maybe, and this gives them a soft, melancholy feel, which makes them almost impossible to forget. For some reason I am reminded of Jewelled Antler Collective man Steven R. Smith or possibly Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance), but what Degens has done is bring a feminine touch to the masses of male-dominated free folk.” —Boomkat

Freida Abtan loves sound. Her music falls somewhere in between musique concrète and more modern noise and experimental audio. Concentrating on the visceral and inspired by dreams, she has created visual shows for and played with Nurse with Wound, and also as presented her own sound and visual work at festivals across Canada.  Subtle Movements was completed over four years from the sidelines of Abtan’s other projects and during her schooling in Montreal. It’s a collection of her favorite pieces, combining her love of electro-acoustic music with her love of found melody. Two of the songs that appear on the album are collaborations with Steven Stapleton of Nurse with Wound, recorded in Colin Potter’s studio in Preston, England, when Abtan traveled there to play a show as part of Scribble Seven in March 2006 alongside Stapleton, Potter, Andrew Liles, Matt Waldron, Joolie Wood, and Maja Elliott.

Originally released in 1994, Current 93’s masterpiece Of Ruine Or Some Blazing Starre followed the classic Thunder Perfect Mind album and marked another leap forward for the band. ***Durtro Jnana are pleased to announce the release of the new CD by Chris ConnellyThe Episodes. A native Scotsman, former member of Ministry and The Revolting Cocks and founding member of Fini Tribe, Connelly has collaborated with Cabaret Voltaire, Killing Joke, Robert Fripp and Jah Wobble, among many others. After fronting some of the era’s most popular and influential Industrial acts, he embarked on a very unique solo career in the early ‘90s. His music, drawing on orch-pop, glam, and classic singer-songwriter influences, has been compared to the likes of David Bowie, Scott Walker, and Robert Wyatt. The Episodes, ConnellyÕs eighth full-length solo work, was produced by Joan of Arc’s Tim Kinsella and Town & Country’s Ben Vida. The album is timeless and unique with radical arrangements and a crack band culled from Califone, Joan of Arc, Town & Country, US Maple and other Chicago jazz and improv luminaries.

Durtro Jnana is proud to re-release of one of Current 93's most ambitious and enduring projects: the Inmost Light trilogy.   Originally issued in 1995 as "Hallucinatory Patripassianist Song," this set includes in their entirety the mini-albums Where The Long Shadows Fall, The Stars Are Marching Sadly Home, and the full-length All The Pretty Little Horses. The band at the time of these recordings included David Tibet, Steven Stapleton, Michael Cashmore and Joolie Wood with guests Nick Cave, Jhonn Balance (Coil), Andria Degens (Pantaleimon) and Shirley Collins contributing vocals.  This series was inspired by visionary painter Louis Wain and author Thomas Ligotti (to whom a track is dedicated), nursery sing-songs and Christian heresies, most notably Patripassianism. In Current 93's hands, the traditional lullaby of the album title sparks an explosive torrent of bittersweet childhood memories and apocalyptic prophecies. The musical setting for Tibet's narrative is exquisite -- kaleidoscopic compositions featuring 12-string guitar, piano, string arrangements, flutes, bells, massed drones, children's voices and ecstatic recitations. Together, the three movements make Inmost Light a powerful and extremely moving listening experience.  The three discs have been newly remastered and are housed in a deluxe eight-panel digipack with a twenty-four-page full-color booklet of photos of the group as children, a complete set of lyrics and liner notes.

Pantaleimon (pronounced "Pan-ta-lay-mon") is the adopted moniker of vocalist and composer Andria Degens. Sometimes collaborating with friends, though often alone, she creates beautifully haunting and meditative music.  Cloudburst, her first recording as Pantaleimon since 2002's Change My World, features four tracks of hypnotic vocal passages that together form a long conceptual piece, which, Degens says, "... is symbolic of the journey every human being makes in a lifetime ... the transformation, transfiguration, the state of being, the space between heaven and Earth." Initially packaged with a limited, hand-printed edition of Degens's poetry and drawings, Cloudburst is now available as a proper CD release. None of the material on the EP will appear on the upcoming Pantaleimon full-length, due later this year. Degens has been creating her own music since 1992 and her debut, the vinyl-only Trees Hold Time, is still highly sought after. She has recorded and performed with artists such as Wire, Dirty Three, Current 93, Bonnie "Prince" Billy and Matt Sweeney, Antony And The Johnsons, Ben Chasny (Six Organs of Admittance), 16 Horsepower, Baby Dee, John Contreras and James William Hindle. More recently Degens has contributed music to Cam Archer's film Wild Tigers I Have Known, Susan Stenger's (Band of Susans) Soundtrack for an Exhibition, and to projects by Irr. App. (Ext.) and Nurse With Wound.

Sleep England is the first solo release from guitarist Michael Cashmore, who has worked extensively with Current 93 and released albums with his own project Nature And Organisation.  Over the last fifteen years he's written a majority of the music on some of Current 93's most acclaimed albums including classics like Thunder Perfect Mind, Of Ruine Or Some Blazing Starre, Soft Black Stars, All the Pretty Little Horses and the recently released Black Ships Ate the Sky. Coupled with the lyrical stylings of David Tibet, Cashmore has established the group's reputation for producing some of the most challenging, profound and influential works in contemporary music. Cashmore has also recorded with Antony (Antony and the Johnsons), Nick Cave, Marc Almond and many others.  Incorporating only electric and bass guitars, Sleep England consists of twelve new and previously-unreleased tracks that together form a singular and very personal work. This album is essential for followers of Current 93 and Nature and Organisation and will also appeal to fans of Jack Rose, John Fahey and Bert Jansch.

How I Devoured Apocalypse Balloon
Durtro / Jnana

***In June of 2004, Current 93 performed three sold-out shows in Toronto, Canada. This double-CD set presents two of these nights in their entirety. As this was their first ever performance in Canada, each night was radically different and featured many rarely performed songs from across the C93 catalog. For this event, the band was comprised of David Tibet, Michael Cashmore, John Contreras and Graham Jeffrey.

Thunder Perfect Mind
Durtro / Jnana

*** Durtro Jnana is delighted to make available again one of C93’s most popular and enduring albums, Thunder Perfect Mind. The cover and booklet include the original artwork, which is somewhat amended with a new and contemporary photograph of David Late Tibet’s face on the digifile cover; a Louis Wain cat on the cover of the booklet different from the Louis Wain cat which replaced Tibet’s face on the previous second edition; photos newly reproduced from the original negatives; new Kalki artwork; and the texts to all the tracks in a full-color 28-page booklet. Tomorrow, Tomorrow And Tomorrow by Bill Fay Group

Bill Fay Group

Tomorrow, Tomorrow And Tomorrow
Durtro / Jnana

***With the renewed interest in Bill Fay's past work, the reissue of his first two albums, Bill Fay and Time Of The Last Persecution, and recently made-available pre-Decca demos (From The Bottom Of An Old Grandfather Clock), it's surprising to discover that twenty new songs have remained unreleased for over two decades.  Fay has been portrayed as a mysterious figure who somehow created two brilliant albums and then vanished. But as Fay himself has said, "It wasn't me who left the music, it was the music business that left me." With no contract or record company support, he continued to write, rehearse and play occasional shows, which is how he met, in 1977, guitarist Gary Smith, electric and bowed bass-player, Rauf Galip, and drummer Bill Stratton, also known as improvising trio The Acme Quartet. A mutual interest in and respect for each other's work led to the decision to collaborate as The Bill Fay Group. Tomorrow, Tomorrow And Tomorrow continues Fay's tradition of writing thoughtful, life-affirming songs that, this time, benefit from extended studio sessions and input from three equally committed musicians. This CD does not consist of demos, out-takes or "alternative" versions of previously recorded songs. It was planned and recorded as Fay's follow- up to Time Of The Last Persecution. It is The Bill Fay Group's third, previously unreleased, album, recorded between 1978 and 1981.
