Meiga De Acero by Clara!

Clara!

Meiga De Acero
Editions Gravats

“Low Jack debuts as beatmaker on a pair of mutant reggaeton zingers for Clara!, the rising Galician vocalist and DJ, in pursuit of their keenly sought-after solo 12”s for Les Disques De La Bretagne.  On both the technoid ‘Acero’ and their grindin’ ‘Meiga’ workout, Low Jack and Clara! play into and explore the idea of reggaeton dancehall as modern Hispanic punk music. As such the results are ruggedly direct and riddled with hypnotic hooks, distinguishing their own strand of the dembow diaspora with timeless swagger and dare-to-be-different flourishes. With a ghetto-ready grasp of soundsystem pressure on ‘Acero’, Low Jack whips killer, bumping bass under choral synth jabs and icy electronics while Clara! goes on infectiously droll and low key. The B-side’s ‘Meiga’ then finds them dropping the tempo to better highlight Clara’s rolled R’s and Low Jack’s mesh of rasping, traditional Hispanic percussion with subtly psychedelic electronics.  These cuts are just dripping with attitude, and in an icy cool, understated, yet hard-to-resist style bound to rule the dance.”—Boomkat

Lights-out dancehall voodoo from Dominick Fernow (Prurient) and Low Jack as Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement, following up ‘Red Ants Genesis’ with a potent new 7” - the 1st RSE release outside of Hospital Productions! After stumping one of 2018’s biggest surprises with their dread-filled collaboration, ‘Red Ants Genesis’, Dominick Fernow and Phillippe Hallais (Low Jack) come to bury the dance in two parts with ‘Venus Flytrap Exotica’. On the A-side’s noxiously swampy ‘Bridgetown Dub’ they underline mesmerising chants and skeletal drums with enormously powerful electro-dub subs - brought to life in-the-mix by Paul Corley - while lightning and thunder threaten collapsing skies. The B-side ‘Price To Pay’ follows in bassy suit, but almost shorn of drums and licked with currents of tropical warm air chords. Powerful spells, strongly recommend to fans of Demdike Stare, Equiknoxx, Shackleton, Burial.

“Editions Gravats follow up that killer EP of mutant Dancehall bangers from label co-founder Low Jack with this completely wild, spellbinding mix of avant-garde electronics and chanson by truly original contemporary artist Laurent Gérard a.k.a. Èlg, part of the same broad scene that includes everyone from Ghédalia Tazartès to PAN’s Bill Kouligas, Luke Younger / Helm, Milan’s insane (und essential) Hundebiss crew and even Alan Bishop and Dylan Nyoukis with whom Èlg has also collaborated. Huge recommendation if you’re into anything from the PAN label to Recollection GRM, Ghedalia Tazartes or even Throbbing Gristle & Coil...Vu Du Dôme is a staggeringly strange, brilliantly kaleidoscopic album resembling a sort of dramaturgy of a waking dream. It feels like a stroll around a topiary maze at twilight on a warm night, with Èlg acting as a spectral protagonist narrating in first person while a supporting cast including Catherine Hershey, Borja Flames and Ernest Bergez make the trip more unfathomable. Forming a bridge between improbable dimensions of GRM / musique concrète, electro-acoustic and chanson spheres, Èlg riddles his music with a literal and metaphorical take on sound poetry; blending French language vocals against quietly enigmatic, impeccably produced backdrops whose low, shifting lighting and mid-fi resolution lends them to comparisons with illusive theatre stage designs as much as the overgrown corners of the imagination explored by Luc Ferrari or Èlg’s Reines D’Angleterre bandmate Ghédalia Tazartès before him.A dusty revenant, a peaceful messenger: Èlg plays all those roles simultaneously. Combining pointedly purposed production and cryptic...

Max P, aka Black Zone Myth Chant, presents the project’s most adventurous and urgent despatch yet, dosing with the unfathomably layered and immersive Feng Shen. What was initially intended as a one-away project has now morphed into something powerfully undefinable and strangely affective over the course of two albums, Straight Cassette and Mane Thecel Phares, an EP and a mixtape, realising something of a butterfly effect feedback between the gestures of his strangely formed objects and their dilated reception by listeners around the world.  Over the course of eight tracks he renders a phenomenal space where he can best describe the paradoxical, impossible physics of a psychedelic soul, by toying with the listener’s gauge of anticipation, perspective and temporality with a poetic clash of ideas lent from chopped & screwed hip hop and liminal club musics.  It’s music which exists in two states at once, driving yet floating, as with the pull and push of pitched down voices and rolling rhythms in Their Love For You, or with impenetrable density of clarity in the layered dimensions of Kubara, following a line that binds kosmische and dancehall in Under Protest/Telos, to the polymetric harmonic swirl of War Paint (DAPL Resistance), and connects the heat-seeking techno impulses of Ideas In Action, to the centre-less ambient panorama of Feng Jing.
