***Over the past few years, NOFX have unleashed their very first double album in the form of 2021’s Single Album; followed by Double Album a year later. What fans didn’t know, is that wasn’t all there was to this masterpiece. That’s right, NOFX’s first and only double album has a 5th side! Half Album is the final chapter to NOFX’s epic double album. The songs that comprise this EP—as well as it’s two predecessors, were all recorded at the same time. Half Album is not simply the leftover songs from this session, but rather an integral part that ties the entire project together. Album opener “Fake-A-Wish Foundation” is a follow-up to Single Album’s “My Bro Cancervive Cancer,” about a guy called Brett who pretended to have brain cancer to hang with bands and get free merch. It’s a gorgeous lilting ballad that might sound sad but contains some truly comedic and biting lyrics. Then there’s “I’m a Rat”—written by FAT MIKE but first recorded by Japanese punk band HI-STANDARD, and later included on last year’s Fat Mike’s string album Gets Strung Out. “The Queen is Dead” comes next, which first appeared (in a very different form) on COKIE THE CLOWN's 2019 full-length You’re Welcome. This reweorked punked-up version—along with the trilogy of “I’m a Rat” showcase how a well written song can be played in any genre. Album closer “The Last Drag,” which is the the counterpart to Single Album opener “The Big Drag,” brings the whole 25-track double album...

***For 35 years, STRUNG OUT has been banging out their signature brand of intense, frenetic, metal-influenced punk; elevating the band to elite status, and playing a significant role in redefining the genre. Strung Out's 10th studio album Dead Rebellion packs that same familiar punch, but with a new focus on melody, showing a band that is still evolving more than three decades into their distinguished career. Take, for instance, the way opener "Future Ghosts" begins in a frenzy of riffs and drumbeats before settling into a kind of hypnotic aggression. Or how the frenetic undercurrent of "White Owls" quietens down, its power condensed into a hushed whisper before once again soaring off in an impassioned burst of emotion. Similarly, "Life You Bleed" tiptoes quietly at first but then accelerates into a fully-fledged rock anthem. Elsewhere, "Cages" is a vicious indictment of the fractious, polarized and technology-driven nature of society, while "Empire Down" is a self- reflective ode about living up to the pressures and expectations of being in this band. Produced, mixed, and recorded by Shawn McGee; Dead Rebellion might represent a new chapter for Strung Out, but it's guided by the same principles that have always driven them. While Strung Out has never been known as a political band, this record—like all Strung Out records—has captured the zeitgeist and the self- destructive political climate perfectly. Overtly political or otherwise, Dead Rebellion is nevertheless a record informed by and reacting to the world we live in and all the experience...

***From the moment they started 15 years ago, Mean Jeans have been creating their own slime punk fantasy world. Study their six previous album covers and you’ll find junkyards full of bongs and yo-yos, macaroni galaxies, Jägermeister spaceships, alien saxophonists and pink slugs in bondage dripping ooze. On their newest full-length album Blasted, the goofball trio have clearly been through wild years and seen some shit—on the cover, the three members peer out of toxic waste bins, no longer cartoons of themselves but instead incredulous country-fried maniacs who are still following a slime punk dream, and dealing with where it’s led them. Which isn’t to say the Jeans are jaded. In fact, the band seem to be having as much fun as ever on this record, ripping through these 15 rapid fire ear worms without coming up for air. They seem equally focused on tight catchy songwriting and packing in Easter eggs and absurd lyrical references. This record is a frantic and frenetic joyride. This energy was no doubt enhanced by the fact the band recorded Blasted all by themselves. At their own behest, the trio were left entirely to their own devices, putting themselves through their own physical paces by trying to be in two places—the control room and the recording room—at once. As singer/guitarist Billy Jeans puts it, “It's idiotic, but when it's just the three of us fucking around, the vibe is there.” You can hear that all throughout Blasted. It’s a weird, wonderful and wacky album,...

Shattered / Safe and Legal by Bad Cop Bad Cop

Bad Cop Bad Cop

Shattered / Safe and Legal
Fat Wreck Chords

***Bad Cop Bad Cop has done angry. The band’s 2017 full- length, Warriors, was recorded in the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election. 2020’s The Ride is less about wagging your finger at others, or giving the middle one to the Man, than it is about self-love and acceptance. Bad Cop Bad Cop is back with two brand-new tracks of both hope in a time when life seems dire, and a call to action when the powers that be threaten to take away our rights. “Shattered” is a song about hope and perseverance. It is a plea to the listener to see past the pain and misery life can throw around, to experience the beauty that enables a perspective that allows us to live the life we want regardless of the strife. “Safe and Legal” is a direct response to the heightened threats to abortion rights here in the United States and around the world. Bad Cop is leveraging their platform to raise awareness and advocate for universal abortion access. Singer/bassist Linh sums it up perfectly: “Our ongoing effort is to remove legal restrictions to integrate them as routine medical procedure. It’s a private healthcare matter, plain and simple.”

***It's probably an understatement to say FAT MIKE is a bit of a contentious figure. Whether through NOFX—the punk band he formed in 1983—or outside of it, he likes to provoke and prod people. Because of that, people often dismiss NOFX as little more than an amusing pop-punk band. They're wrong. That's one of the reasons Fat Mike decided to sit down with his good friend and frequent musical collaborator Baz The Frenchman and make Gets Strung Out, a record of (mostly) NOFX songs recast and reimagined as classical compositions. It's a way of setting the record straight for those who think NOFX are just another punk band. Suffice it to say, Gets Strung Out is quite an addition to his resume, one that most people would likely not expect, and designed to dispel dumb punk musician stereotype. It does so comprehensively—and this record only solidifies that fact. "The thing is," says Fat Mike, "I really want people to understand my songwriting.” "I'm A Rat," is a perfect example. "The punk version of that song," Mike says, "is 54 chords in a row without any repeat. And when you listen to the classical version, you can hear that. Finally, people can hear every part of my songs without my vocals and drums annoying them. And what you hear on these songs is what the songs are. It's the melody, it's the harmony, it's the guitar chords and octave chords, and it's the bass. Those are the parts." It's true. Needless...

***Melbourne punks CLOWNS have never been ones to conform. The five-piece started in 2010 as a more-or-less straightforward hardcore punk act, but over the course of their first four albums have steadily evolved and mutated their sound in whatever direction they felt like. The upcoming album Endless continues down this snaking path—it’s 12 songs swerving right and left abruptly, veering from frenetic punk to slower more psychedelic-tinged rock, all while remaining a cohesive amalgamation of their previous work. It’s no surprise that the past few years have been like nothing the members of Clowns have experienced before. The changing world profoundly affected the band, but they have persevered and have now emerged through the dark tunnel of the last few years and turned them on their heads. The result is an album whose central theme is immortality and whose songs represent a newfound sense of strength, empowerment, and overcoming adversity. That spirit of mental and physical renewal flows through the twelve tracks of Endless.

The Cup of Pestilence by Frenzal Rhomb

Frenzal Rhomb

The Cup of Pestilence
Fat Wreck Chords

***Back in the mire of the early nineties, from somewhere beneath a pile of wallet chains and cut-off army pants FRENZAL RHOMB emerged, their white suburban fingers clutching onto goon casks and bucket bongs and other appropriate paraphernalia. Before too long those fingers wrote riffs and those riffs became songs and their voices sung rhyming swear words in perfect three-part harmony. After countless world tours, sharing the stage with everyone from NOFX to Nickelback. Playing all around Australia, from Broome to Bunbury and Bundaberg to Brunswick, offending and entertaining people in equal measure along the way. Being welcomed into people's lives and banned from radio stations, often for the same reasons. The dubious honor of being the most hospitalized band in the world—everything from broken drumming arms and detached guitar-playing retinas to an actual pig-borne tapeworm in the lead singer's brain—it's amazing that Frenzal Rhomb are here at all. But Frenzal Rhomb are still here, and back with their 10th studio album! Recorded, mixed and mastered at The Blasting Room by BILL STEVENSON, JASON LIVERMORE, ANDREW BERLIN and CHRIS BEEBLE; The Cup of Pestilence is 19 songs full of the characters and slightly discomforting ideas that you’ve come to love from Frenzal Rhomb. The stories of good times, beloved friends and slightly less-friendly types, the tales of enlightenment through recreational substances, and some great budgetary ideas for a cash-strapped household. ***2021 saw the release of NOFX’s highly acclaimed, 14th studio album Single Album. What fans didn’t know then, is Single Album is only one half of what has ultimiately become NOFX’s very first double album; the second half of which is aptly titled Double Album. Reuniting with punk-rock legends BILL STEVENSON and JASON LIVERMORE for producer / engineering / mixing duties; it’s not hyperbolic to say NOFX are making their best music now. But that's not to imply everything else they’ve done was mediocre, either. Double Album reminds both ardent fans and casual listeners that NOFX weren’t born to follow trends. Indeed NOFX have carved their logo into the veneer of punk-rock culture for decades. With nearly 40 years in this circus, you’re going to meet people and do/see/conspire to get all the wildest shit done. Remember how one of the stipulations of the NOFX book Hepatitis Bathtub was that none of the band members could see what the other ones were writing about them? Well, this time, Mike got permission to blow up the foibles and peccadillos of people in song for maximum velocity and hilarity. There’s “Joanna Constant Teen,” a 78-second tribute to the dominatrix that spent six weeks in Fat Mike’s NYC-based Airbnb during the production run of his musical, Home Street Home. “Alcopollack” is about booking agent David Pollock, who has worked with the band for over 30 years and has lost more than his fair share of clients for his too-brazen honesty. “Fuck Day Six”...

Songs of the Highlands Songs of the Sea by Real McKenzies

Real McKenzies

Songs of the Highlands Songs of the Sea
Fat Wreck Chords

***Founded in 1992 by the larger than life, Scottish punk-rock poet laureate, Mr. Paul McKenzie, this merry band of miscreants has spent a quarter-century circumnavigating the globe to bring the McKenzies gospel to an ever-expanding throng of rebels and scallywags With their latest offering, one thing stands out immediately: You already know these songs. Even if you’ve never been to Scotland, even if you’re not a seafaring type, you know them. That’s because the twelve anthems—and make no mistake, these are anthems—The Real McKenzies have picked for this new album have been sung by others for decades, if not centuries. A dual celebration of Scottishness and the band, which is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, Songs of the Highland, Songs of the Sea is comprised entirely of famous traditional sea shanties that are roughly divided, as the record’s title suggest, between land and sea. And even though the idea for the album was initially proposed by guitarist Mario Nieva, these songs speak to frontman Paul McKenzie’s heritage as well as who he is, and who he always has been. Some might have been written long before he was born, but these are still his stories, wound inextricably into his life experiences. Whether a lifelong fan of The Real McKenzies, a seafaring dreamer, or simply a fan of the simple sing-along lullaby, Songs of the Highland, Songs of the Sea is sure to become an instant catalog favorite.

***REISSUED ON 12-INCH VINYL WITH TWO BONUS TRACKS!!! The year was 2012 and COBRA SKULLS had just spent the better part of the past two years on the road in support of their latest full-length Agitations. Amidst all the chaos they continued to write new material. The band couldn’t contain their excitement about a few of their newly penned tracks, so instead of holding onto them until it was time to make another full-length they decided to strike while the iron was hot and dipped into the studio to record them. The three songs that resulted make up the 7” Eagle Eyes. The songs flash that energetic punk style that Cobra Skulls originated with, while still maintaining their genre defying sound. “Eagle Eyes” is a flat out hit. What nobody knew back then, there were two more tracks from the recording that didn’t make the record! 10 years later, we decided it is due time we release the entire Eagle Eyes recording as it was originally intended. Cobra Skulls fans will be clamoring to get their hands on this complete version of the acclaimed Eagle Eyes EP.

***Being a band for 20 years won’t just change you. It changes how you see the world, and your place in it. For long-running Toronto punk mainstays THE FLATLINERS, a new record meant a new opportunity to examine the legacy they’ve inherited, and the one they’ll eventually pass on. New Ruin is a shot of adrenaline from a band striking out at outdated institutions and ideologies via pointed lyrics and their heaviest songs to date, attacking each with a ferocity that will surprise even longtime fans. From the monstrously discordant hits that open the album through the de facto thesis statement of “Heirloom,” it’s clear that The Flatliners are angry in a way we’ve never heard before. At the same time, they’ve never been more in control. Produced by CRESSWELL along with the rest of the band, songs like "Performative Hours” and “Recoil” boil with livewire post-hardcore energy while “Souvenir” and “Big Strum” offer a more tightly coiled aggression that hints at the band’s anthemic punk past. Recorded at Toronto’s Noble Street Studios and Genesis Sound with longtime friend and engineer MATT SNELL, the album sounds both open and immediate, the cumulative effect of two decades performing together.

***Starting in 1996, CIGAR could’ve been a major contender in 21st century punk. Pennywise’s Fletcher Dragge was taken by the trio’s love of melody and straight-up acceleration, which led to the band aligning themselves with SoCal label Theologian Records for their Dragge-produced debut album, 1999’s Speed Is Relative. For the next six years, Cigar (who were named after the winning racehorse in the 1995 Breeders Cup Classic) lived the punk life by relocating to San Diego, appearing on some skate-punk compilations and videos while waiting for their lane to open. And during that time, the members’ lives began to change, from creating families to exploring other musical interests. But here in 2022, with drummer JON SORTLAND having acquired a playing resume that includes the SHINS, BROKEN BELLS and EV KAIN, and JONATHAN HISCHKE joining the band on bass, Cigar are ready for re-ignition with their new full-length The Visitor. In 10 tracks, Cigar easily shatter preconceived notions of young listeners and long-in-the- tooth poonks, alike. The album’s opening salvo, “These Chances,” fires right out of the gate with singer/guitarist RAMI KRAYEM's strident vocal and Sortland’s amphetamine drumming powering the proceedings. Headbangers can find joy in the brisk riffing of “In Armor'' and “Move On.” The Visitor doesn’t let up on velocity or honesty: No detours in the form of four-minute acoustic love songs, trite hip-hop beats or other sonic concessions. Cigar are skate-punk personified, with a well-tuned engine and the knowledge that in punk, only you determine your glory days....

***A great punk album is one that makes you think, feel and want to mosh simultaneously. Escape From The Zoo has struck the perfect balance between all three on their new album Countin’ Cards. It’s something that the band—the louder, faster, punk project that Days N’ Daze’s Jesse Sendejas co- founded with his wife Veronica—has always done, but never quite to this extent. Much of that is down to the circumstances that led up to the recording of these songs—most obviously a global pandemic that allowed for intense self-reflection. This period of isolation coincided with Sendejas getting sober, so not only do the songs that make up Countin’ Cards offer up deep and poignant existential questions about life—as well as the social and political constructs that surround and consume it —but they’re also a reflection of Sendejas’ newfound clarity and the path he’s now trying to take. The result is nine songs that are earnest expressions of everyday struggle and existence. Breakneck and buoyant opener “Heads Up 7 Up” questions conforming to a life in which you’re meant to spend most of your time working. “Shit Show”—which, along with “Jars O’ Fears,” is one of two songs that Lozier mainly wrote and takes lead vocals on—wrestles with thoughts of impending mortality, “Sentient Beer” sees Sendejas question the inspiration and influence, both good and bad that drugs and booze had on him, and “Wasted Years,” as the title suggests, is a melancholy but not self-indulgent rumination on days gone by. Live In A Dive
Fat Wreck Chords

***The tenth installment of Fat Wreck’s Live in a Dive series takes us back over 30 years to Eindhoven, Holland. The date is May 12, 1989, not too long before Montecito, CA punks RKL will call it quits (for the first time, anyway). The 17- song set—a good chunk of which is culled from 1987’s album Rock ’n Roll Nightmare—was recorded at famed Eindhoven squat-turned-venue De Effenaar, and is beautifully ragged and raw. Although the band would get back together, things were never quite the same after the members went their separate ways the first time. As such, this record is a document of one of the last points before everything took a dive, of a band holding it together—incredibly well, it has to be said—before everything unraveled. And even though you can’t really hear that tension, when compared to the Double Live in Berlin live album, recorded the year before this one, there does seem to be an extra sense of urgency in these songs. They’re more primal and more ferocious, more intense and more nihilistic. Above all, though, they still sound fun as hell. RKL’s Live in a Dive album—which features incredible art by longtime RKL cover artist Dan Sites —isn’t just a pure representation of the band in all its twisted, untamed glory. It’s not just the sound of a band about to fall off the cliff edge. It also serves as a bittersweet tribute to both Manzullo and Sears, who died in 2005 and 2006 respectively. These songs...

Cape, Joey

A Good Year To Forget
Fat Wreck Chords

***Originally known as the singer, songwriter, and founder of both LAGWAGON and BAD ASTRONAUT, JOEY CAPE has established himself as a recognized solo artist over the past 15 years. His solo ventures have allowed him to stretch the bounds of his musical stylings, highlighting more diverse instrumentation, subdued pace, and experimental elements. The one constant, of course, is his unique ability to craft unforgettable songs. As with pretty much everyone on the planet, 2020 was a challenging year for Joey. At the onset he was going through difficult transitions on multiple fronts. Then the pandemic hits, and Joey finds himself dealing with things he had never experienced before all at once. The result is A Good Year to Forget, a record that encapsulates all the trials and tribulations of the 12 months that inspired it. Written entirely in isolation in a makeshift home recording studio at his mother’s house, Joey Cape was able to create a beautiful, warm record that captures the pure essence of its songs. Hushed and haunted, there’s an almost Nick Drakeian poignancy to these 12 songs, especially on the wistful “The Poetry in Our Mistakes” and the forlorn-yet-somehow-uplifting “Saturday Night Fever.” “Come Home,” a song inspired directly by words his mother had spoken to him on the phone, is a beautifully melancholy, slightly folky tune full of hurt and longing that also manages to be reassuring at the same time. Elsewhere, “Under the Doormat” is a harrowingly beautiful ode to a lost love of the past....

Then again this should come as no surprise to anyone who has followed face to face’s 30-year history. While their sound is rooted in the West Coast punk genre they helped pioneer, No Way out but Through raises the sonic bar when it comes to songwriting, arranging and musicianship. This time around, singer/guitarist Trever Keith was able to get out of his proverbial comfort zone by renting a cabin near Malibu, California, and holed up with bassist Scott Shiflett as they transformed a collection of their respective demos and ideas into the polished recording you hear today. Production-wise, the band teamed up again with Juno Award winning producer Siegfried Meier and Davey Warsop (Foo Fighters, Green Day) and later was mixed and mastered by Jason Livermore at the legendary Blasting Room. The result is an album that’s sound quality mirrors its sonic weight and is the best-sounding face to face album to date.

***THE LAST GANG hit the ground running with their Fat Wreck Chords debut 7" Sing for your Supper in December 2017. From the second that needle dropped, fans felt the infectious energy these LA punks have become known for. Now about to release their second full-length album, they show no signs of slowing down. One listen to Noise Noise Noise, and you’ll discover a band who has not only pushed their musical boundaries in new and unexpected ways; but as a lyricist, Brenna Red has unlocked a new side of herself, spitting barbs both personal and political at whoever might listen. Noise Noise Noise is nothing if not full of curveballs. The album opens with the “Guns of Brixton”-esque title track, the first of the album’s many forays into guitar upstrokes and elastic basslines. The next curveball comes in the very next track, “WFTW,” the rare punk song that’s four minutes long, and feeling a little bit like Searching For A Former Clarity-era Against Me!, with Red cramming as many syllables into her verses as humanly possible. The Last Gang are at their absolute best on Noise Noise Noise, as they once again teamed up with Cameron Webb (Motorhead, NOFX, Alkaline Trio) to bring their fans every ounce of piss and vinegar they have been so eagerly awaiting.

***It’s been seven years since The Copyrights released their last album Report, but the wait is finally over. Ahead of the Carbondale, IL punks’ 20th anniversary in 2022, the foursome have returned with their seventh full-length album, Alone in A Dome. Not that you’d know it was the band’s seventh record—across the course of these 12 songs, the band sounds just as vibrant and vigorous, energetic and youthful, as it ever has. Whether that’s because they recorded most of it in the basement of Carbondale’s Lost Cross punk house, where the band was formed all those years ago, is uncertain, but the spirit of that house, of their youth and of the scene in general, is very much alive and kicking for the record’s half-hour runtime.

***It’s hard to believe pogo punks Teenage Bottlerocket (or TBR as the kids call them) formed over two decades ago. They’ve toured the world countless times. They kept the leather jacket-and-Converse look alive through an increasingly neon landscape. They’ve written songs about KISS, Top Gun and Minecraft. Hell, they’ve even been on CNN a few times! So please welcome back to the spotlight Wyoming’s own Teenage Bottlerocket, with their ninth album, the 12-track Sick Sesh! Recorded in November 2020 at the Blasting Room (the band’s eighth straight full-length with producer Andrew Berlin), Sick Sesh! is deliberately rougher around the edges than the last few TBR albums.

Does It Matter? by Clowns

Clowns

Does It Matter?
Fat Wreck Chords

***2020 was going to be a colossal year for CLOWNS. The Melbourne, Australian five-piece was locked into worldwide touring to support their 2019 full-length, and FAT debut, Nature/Nurture. The album included 11 blistering songs that veered from frantic punk to slower, more nuanced, and psychedelic-tinged rock. However, before the band could really roll out their epic touring plans, that nettlesome global pandemic hit, and the world was shut down. Luckily, Clowns are not one to rest on their laurels and harnessed their solitude to write music. The pause on being an active band allowed the group to record a batch of new songs, with two standing out as their favorites. “Does It Matter” is a hook-heavy raucous number that demonstrates the prowess of their current lineup, The b-side “Sarah” explores the dizzying highs and soul-destroying lows of love.

Today's Empires, Tomorrow's Ashes
Fat Wreck Chords

***REMIXED AND REISSUED!!! After 1993’s How To Clean Everything and 1996’s Less Talk, More Rock, Today’s Empires, Tomorrow’s Ashes was Propagandhi’s third and penultimate album on FAT. It marked a transition period for the band. Not only was it their first record after the departure of bassist/vocalist John K. Sampson—who was replaced by Todd Kowalski—but it also saw the start in the shift towards the sound that has now come to define them. The result was an album that, despite singer Chris Hannah’s reservations, truly set the benchmark back then, and does so even more in its new sonic form. Just listen to what opener “Mate Ka Moris Ukun Rasik An” or the caustic title track sound like now, not to mention the still-eye-opening blast of “With Friends Like These Who the Fuck Needs COINTELPRO?”—the lyrical content of which remains as shocking today as it was back then. Intelligent and visceral in equal measure, it’s a record that offers up one of the most vicious indictments of American (and, to be fair, Western) imperialism ever committed to tape. But the band was never quite happy with how the album turned out. It was betterthan it was given credit for. While the pieces were all there, the album lacked sonically in a way the band was never satisfied with. Fast forward almost two decades, when Propagandhi was in the studio with Jason Livermore mixing Victory Lap, and Hannah brought up the issues with Today’s Empires, Tomorrow’s Ashes. Right there they decided...

***MakeWar first burst through the Southern Border Wall and onto the national stage in 2016 with their debut album Developing a Theory of Integrity—a ripping skatepunk / Brooklyn Emo Night hybrid that caught everyone off-guard with its unabashed dynamism and brass balls, while somehow effortlessly remaining faithful to MakeWar’s influences. They followed that up with their Fat Wreck Chords debut Get It Together—a uniquely fresh-eyed and youthful rallying cry, tempered with anger, heartache, and a dash of hardcore rage and virtuosity that belies their relatively short tenure as a band. Pulled from those recording sessions is their brand new 7”, Stay featuring two tracks directly from Get It Together, and two unreleased outtakes. Keep a watchful eye as MakeWar will be continuing their rigorous touring schedule throughout 2021 and 2022.

***GET DEAD were originally drawn together by their love for punk rock, joy of acoustic impurities, desire to keep music simple, and on a lesser scale, their shared affinity for the drink. In fact, Get Dead's first band practice allegedly consisted solely of hollowing out some pineapples, filling them with rum, and “getting sticky”, as Sam (lead singer) puts it. Regardless of their unorthodox start, they did eventually get on track and have since been creating some of the most earnest and satisfying punk rock around. Aftera couple years of playing famously raucous shows in the BayArea the band’s song writing ability caught the ear of NOFX frontman Fat Mike, resulting in three stellar albums over the last eight years. We are excited to now be able to share with you Get Dead's debut album from before Fat Wreck got their hands on them. Letters Home- available for the first time on vinyl- is an essential piece of the GET DEAD collection, giving insight into the early days of the band and how they have evolved into what they are today.

***BACK IN PRINT!!! TONY SLY continues to illustrate his songwriting prowess with the release of his second full-length solo album, Sad Bear. Tony’s somewhat recent foray into recording as a solo artist has proven to be every bit as fruitful as his 20+ years fronting the legendary punk band NO USE FOR A NAME. On his own, Tony trades in the signature electric guitars and aggressive rhythms of NUFAN for a more subdued approach, featuring acoustic instruments and highlighted by his captivating melodies. Sad Bear notes a strong progression from Tony’s first solo outing with an increased emphasis on varied instrumentation that, while robust, somehow delicately plays off Tony’s soothing vocals. As a master of transcribing personal experiences and bemusements into transcendent verse, it follows that the lyrical content of Sad Bear is nothing short of poetic. The songs range from folk to pop, with many genre defying moments in between, but are all sewn together seamlessly with the common thread of innovative and dexterous craftsmanship. Sad Bear serves as a prism that reflects the spectrum of Tony’s songwriting influences including such varied artists as The Beatles, Iron and Wine, Coner Oberst, and Elliot Smith. To further develop the aural layers of the album, Tony utilizes the vocal capabilities of KARINA DENIKE (DANCE HALL CRASHERS) and JOEY CAPE (LAGWAGON) to complement his own. As a whole, the intriguing and unforgettable songs on Sad Bear are a triumphant next step in Tony Sly’s burgeoning solo career.

How To Clean Everything Reissue
Fat Wreck Chords

***BACK IN STOCK!!! In 1993 PROPAGANDHI recorded their first album, How to Clean Everything, and released it via a then fledgling Fat Wreck Chords. Needless to say the album was hugely successful at not only putting the label on the map, but even more so, at establishing Propagandhi as a massive force in the punk scene. Leaning more toward the skate punk tradition than the band’s current work, How To Clean Everything was a clear launch point for the band, filled with aggressive metal riffs and a young snarky delivery of lyrics about human rights, equality, and radical left-wing politics. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of such an important album everyone involved thought a new edition was in order. The reissue includes the full original album, the three outtakes that FAT MIKE cut from the initial record, and a super rare four-song HTCE demo. Of course the album was re-mastered from the original analog reels as well. All in all, the 20th anniversary edition is a worthy update to an absolute classic. LP includes a download.

Most Useless Songs
Fat Wreck Chords

***Israeli punks USELESS ID have been together since 1994, releasing eight full-lengths and a slew of EPs, singles, and compilations. That’s a staggering number of songs to pare down into some kind of definitive portrait of the band. The newest album- a career-spanning greatest hits- titled Most Useless Songs, reaches as far back as the 1999 Fat Wreck Chords compilation Short Music For Short People (“Too Bad You Don’t Get It”), but otherwise draws from the band’s 2000s output, such as No Vacation from the World (2003), Redemption (2005), The Lost Broken Bones (2008), Symptoms (2012), and State is Burning (2016). The liner notes feature commentary on all 16 tracks, written by the band. Most Useless Songs shows the band’s growth throughout the years. That sound continues to evolve, as shown on two new tracks exclusive to Most Useless Songs: the soaring, hopeful “Same Old Revolution” and “Into the Exquisite,” a blistering track that’s classic Useless ID.
