(Color) Araca Azul by Veloso, Caetano

Veloso, Caetano

(Color) Araca Azul
Lilith

***BACK IN PRINT ON CLEAR VINYL!!! Apparently when this album was originally released in 1972, confused and bewildered fans, expecting more of the same found on Transa, released earlier that year, returned the album to the shop, demanding a refund. Meanwhile, critics raved, and many now consider Araçá Azul, known as Veloso’s experimental album to be one of his great creative moments. To be fair to his many fans, it was a stark departure from his previous releases, which were decidedly more pop, but Veloso had been through a lot recently, having just returned from political exile in the UK, so it is no wonder that the artist was feeling a bit like he needed to fly in the face of conformity. In Veloso’s own words, “I made this album without thinking, without taking the time to stop to think.” He refers to the album’s insolent experimentalism and calls it a kind of “last stand.”

Lilith

***NOW AVAILABLE ON COLORED VINYL!!! Often referred to as “Brazil‚s unofficial poet laureate” and the “Bob Dylanof Brazil,” this heavyweight of Brazilian musician was also a young revolutionary who used his music to protest against Brazil’s oppressive military regime. This protest music, which became known as Tropicalia, first earned CAETANO VELOSO a stint in jail, but by the time this dour album was released in 1971, it had placed him in exile in the UK. Veloso‚s extreme bitterness and melancholy can be heard on every groove of this album, but don’t let the album’s gloomy atmosphere stop you, it is dripping with some of the best moments of saudade in the history of Brazilian music.

Dr. John

(Colored) Anytime, Anyplace
Lilith

***Lilith present a reissue of Dr. John 's Anytime, Anyplace , originally released in 1974. Cutting his teeth on New Orleans session work while still a teen in the 1950s, pianist and singer Dr. John (born Mac Rebennack ) emerged in the late 1960s with Gris-Gris , a blend of snaky rhythms, Crescent City funk, and swampland voodoo flair. Since then, he has remained one of New Orleans's prime musical ambassadors, an artist with his own trademark sound and style. These sessions actually have a feeling not unlike his early-70s work. Most of the titles are self-penned, and there are also a few Professor Longhair covers. If you like vintage Dr. John, this is almost mandatory. Clear vinyl.

Caetano Veloso (Irene) (clear Vinyl) by Veloso, Caetano

Caetano Veloso (Irene) (clear Vinyl)
Lilith

***AVAILABLE AGAIN!!! Lilith Records present a reissue of Caetano Veloso's Caetano Veloso (Irene), originally issued in 1969. Although Veloso had already been thrown in jail once for his criticism of Brazil's military regime, he continued to speak out against it on Caetano Veloso (Irene), with tracks like "Irene," (about a machine gun-toting outlaw celebrated by the left). No wonder he would soon find himself in political exile in the UK. The general tone of the album is in keeping with its dire message and actually, Veloso felt it was important for his voice of protest to be heard around the world. If he was a high profile public figure, he felt that he would be safer. Despite all of this (or perhaps because of all this) and the man still managed to make excellent records! Clear vinyl.

Three Imaginary Boys
Lilith

***BACK IN PRINT!!! The undisputed leaders of the early gothic scene, and a seminal band that contributed to the rise of British post-punk, THE CURE recorded their debut album Three Imaginary Boys at London's Morgan Studios and released it on May 8, 1979. After touring for almost all of 1977, the band changed their name to The Cure and rearranged their lineup with the sacking of PORL THOMPSON, giving birth to an unusual power trio. This lineup lasted only for their first album, making it unique in its essentially minimal sound. The year was now 1978, and the three (imaginary?) boys soon signed to Chris Parry's Fiction Label.

Os Mutantes
Lilith

***BACK IN STOCK!!! Lilith present a reissue of OS MUTANTES' self-titled debut, originally released in 1968. With the release of their debut LP in 1968, Os Mutantes cracked the already red hot Tropicalia scene wide open. Fusing traditional Brazilian music, psychedelia, rock, and a good dose of pure experimentation, they quickly became giants both in Brazil and in the outer fringes of pop music, where they have managed to reign supreme for the past four decades. Not an easy task in such a crowded arena. Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Gal Costa, Jorge Ben, Tom Zé, and Os Mutantes? What do these people put in their drinking water? The band went on to release several more albums, but this one was their magnum opus. Obi "bookmark" Japanese style; 180-gram vinyl; Includes CD.

***By the time this album was released, ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM was already an international superstar. Having recently won a Grammy (1965) for “The Girl From Ipanema,” by 1967 all the big name stars from up north were breaking down his door to work with the new “Gershwin of Brazil.” In fact, Jobim had just finished working on an album with Frank Sinatra when he went into the studio to record this album. Recorded in 1967, Wave is actually one of the lesser known masterpieces of Brazilian music, and undoubtedly one of Jobim’s greatest. Here Jobim and the great CLAUS OGERMAN lead a top-flight cast of players.

Caetano Veloso (tropicalia) + Bonus Cd
Lilith

***BACK IN STOCK!!! Originally released in 1968, CAETANO VELOSO’s debut album did for Brazilian music what the Beatles' Sgt. Peppers did for rock & roll, giving birth to the soon-to-be Tropicalia movement, which fused Brazilian music with pop, psychedelia and social awareness (and Veloso's leftist politics actually earned him a stint in jail in 1968 for 'anti-government activity'). Veloso, nonetheless went on to become one of the most popular and influential Brazilian musicians of all time. Jimmy Page Vs. Albert Lee
Lilith

***Before becoming the driving force behind LED ZEPPELIN, guitarist JIMMY PAGE was a session man, hawking his talent to dozens of bands on the British beat scene, including this 1968 session for fledgling singer KEITH DE GROOT’s debut album. However, whatever talent De Groot had was swiftly eclipsed by the sheer force of his backing band, which included future Zeppelin bassist JOHN PAUL JONES, keyboard legend NICKY HOPKINS and guitar hero ALBERT LEE, whose lightning fast licks and Fender Telecaster soon made him an icon of British rock. Includes a bouns CD version.
