***The WEATHER WARLOCK is a musical instrument built by New Orleans artist and musician QUINTRON. The instrument is a large analog synthesizer which is controlled, via a set of outdoor sensors, by the changes in weather. The circuitry employs sun, rain, wind, temperature, moon, and lightning to affect a major-chordal drone with special sonic events occurring at sunrise and sunset. The base recordings for this, the second Weather Warlock album, were made in Abu Dhabi during a live performance on Saadiyat Island. Quintron and New Orleans drummer AARON HILL (EYEHATEGOD) traveled to the UAE to collaborate with a handful of local musicians for one week, composing and rehearsing the this material, prior to the performance. In particular, the album relies heavily on Egyptian master musician, SHERINE THOMAY's electric Oud playing. Side A ventures into new territory for WW—a 16-minute hypnotic techno-Mellotron jam with oud, hand drums, and cinematic desert noise phasing in and out. Side B is a slow burn prog-rock ripper in 9 which, in addition to the Middle Eastern guest musicians, features a New Orleans horn section, snotty GARY WRONG vocals (another WW first), bass rumble from JEN ATTAWAY (SPLIT LIPS, UNNATURALS), and a pure garbage guitar solo by PETE LARSON (Bulb Records, COUCH, etc.), who flew to the UAE from Kenya for the jams. Edition of 500 copies. Includes a download.

***CHILL is an artist and rapper who grew up in the St. Bernard Projects of New Orleans' 7th ward. This album is the product of a 10 years long friendship that CHILL and musician / inventor QUINTRON struck up when CHILL was displaced to New Orleans upper 9th ward after Hurricane Katrina. CHILL, who is blind, is escorted daily by his nephew to a St. Claude Avenue food and liquor store called Korner Market #2 (aka "Hot Fod"), just down the street from Quintron's Spellcaster Lodge studio. Take It From The Bind Side is CHILL's first recording. After two or three failed sessions, a winning formula was discovered. At CHILL's request, all vocals were done acapella in two days and then the production was built around his flowing vocal cadences for the next three solid months with co-producer BENNY DIVINE (Natural Child, Wizzard Sleeve, Gary Wrong, King Louie, etc). The production sound is totally inspired by classic early '90s MPC driven New Orleans gansta rap, the era and lifestyle that CHILL came up in. This guy is the real deal. Nuf said. Check it out.

***WEATHER WARLOCK is the new project from New Orleans organist / instrument builder QUINTRON. This band is based entirely around his latest monster analog weather synthesizer (also called "Weather Warlock"). In short, this instrument takes information from the Weather—sun, rain, temperature, wind, etc.—and translates those daily variables into a randomly bubbling new-agey drone. The main console has a boatload of knobs and controls which can be configured into an infinite number of settings, mutating the weather drone from sublime yoga waves to shrieking thunder bubbles. Side A starts in the mire of an electronic sunset with Quintron at the helm of the Weather Warlock synth, twiddling knobs and responding to the day's waning UV rays. Slowly, the Gulf Coast acid rock emerges courtesy of AARON HILL (EYEHATEGOD, MISSING MONUMENTS) on Drums, GARY WRONG (WIZZARD SLEEVE, VATICAN DAGGER, etc.) on supreme noise guitar, and Quintron on second guitar. Two of New Orleans more prolific free jazz reed players—PAUL GRASS (tenor sax) and TRAVIS BLOTSKEY (baritone sax)—help to glue this mass of southern scum rock to the lineage of serious free music shamans such as Sun Ra and Peter Brotzman. Side B presents the Weather Warlock instrument alone in the drone zone—doing its solo thing during a very active and stormy New Orleans sunset with Quintron occasionally tweaking the controls in harmony. The resulting music is basically a greatest hits of what mother nature and Weather Warlock are capable of by themselves. Limited edition of 500 copies on yellow vinyl.

Sneakin Up The Street by 9th Ward Marching Band

9th Ward Marching Band

Sneakin Up The Street
Rhinestone

***Fourteen tracks of full on New Orleans / High School / Military / Freak style marching music. All killer no filler featuring 100 plus members (including at various time PEACHES, BLACK LIPS, ANDREW WK, and just about every punk band in New Orleans). Side A was recorded during an actual neighborhood parade at Mardi Gras 2011 and Side B was recorded between 2006 and 2010 at Spellcaster Lodge parade rehearsals. The music here is all cover songs except the drum cadences. The Halloween / Exorcist theme on glockenspiels is especially creepy! This ain’t a joke band and it aint scruffles playing dress up. 9TH WARD MARCHING BAND feature some of the finest musicians in the city and have been around for over 15 years. They march exclusively for their city in Mardi Gras parades...no rock clubs, no world tours, no wicker man, etc....only the streets! This is their first album and is limited to 500 copies. Pressed on split red and white vinyl. Released on QUINTRON’s own Rhinestone imprint.

***JAMSKATE is a 5 song 12 inch ep dominated by two versions of the mysterious swirling skate anthem, "JAMSKATE". This song has a cajun melody and a perfect skate tempo of 129 BPM. Drug problem is a classic song from New Orleans hardcore legends KAJUN SS - a band fronted by the legendary fucked up songwriter King Louie. Wild West is about post Katrina Bourbon St. and how the orange vest is the new cowboy hat. The comedy skit at the end is some rambling fantasy about taking over Mardi Gras in Mobile Alabama. This EP is limited to 500 copies of vinyl only.....all hand-assembled by Q himself. ON TOUR WITH THE BLACK LIPS!!!
