There is a station where the train never arrives, where the Waiting Room is always occupied, where the conversation is inevitably awkward and where you’re never quite alone, but perpetually ALMOST alone. Moon's Milk In Final Phase by Electric Sewer Age

Electric Sewer Age

Moon's Milk In Final Phase
Soleilmoon

***ELECTRIC SEWER AGE was conceived in 2006, a glowing spark in the imagination of JOHN DEEK of Divine Frequency. A brief, cryptic announcement in 2009, followed by a few rough tracks released online, heralded its birth. Announced with nothing more than the tagline “an Infinity of Sewers thrown open beneath the Threshold House”, little was known about this upcoming project other than it likely featured some involvement of former COIL legends PETER "SLEAZY" CHRISTOPHERSON and DANNY HYDE, and perhaps, it was rumored, with the posthumous contributions of JHONN BALANCE. Because Electric Sewer Age was intended to be an anonymous aural experiment meant to free the listeners mind of any preconceptions about who or what created it, little more was ever planned to be publicly revealed about the project, even after the first release. However, following the unexpected and untimely passing in 2010 of Christopherson, the first Electric Sewer Age EP became an epitaph to the loss of this peerless musician, for these were the last tracks he and his decades long collaborator and friend Danny Hyde ever completed together. The music, originally intended to conclude Coil’s Moon’s Milk series, was released on CD by Divine Frequency in 2012, and then on vinyl the next year by Danny Hyde. Both editions sold out quckly and have been unavailable until now. Moon’s Milk In Final Phase consists of four ambient-electronic instrumentals, reissued by Soleilmoon Recordings on CD and deluxe gatefold 12-inch, the latter in two colors—250 copies on moon green and 250...

Napoleonic Blues by Ostara

Ostara

Napoleonic Blues
Soleilmoon

***NOW AVAILABLE ON CD!!! Napoleonic Blues is the seventh album by OSTARA, and their second release for Soleilmoon, following Paradise Down South (2013). Inspired by the famous picture of the defeated emperor at Fontainebleu, Napoleonic Blues is a reflection on the persistence of the past in the chaos of the present, history’s long shadow that refuses to dissolve. Echoing lines from the Roman poet Horace, the battle hymns of the Crusades, the rebirth of the Islamic Caliphate, the siege of Gaza, the collapse of Detroit and the meditations of St John of the Cross, this is a journey through the night and fog that lingers like the smoke of an eternal flame. Eleven songs, linked by a chain of time, the ancient stalking the modern, the lamp of the golden age lit on the pyre of the darkest days. RICHARD LEVIATHAN, formerly of STRENGTH THROUGH JOY, has enjoyed a long creative affiliation with Douglas Pearce of Death In June, who released Strength Through Joy’s single “Dark Rose” and two albums in the mid 1990’s. Leviathan and Pearce collaborated on Death in June’s Kapo! and Scorpion Wind with Boyd Rice and John Murphy in 1996. Ostara has been Leviathan’s solo project since 2002 with six previous releases that have firmly established him in the Neofolk genre. Evocative titles, intellectually stimulating poetry, strong melodies, a feel for language, smooth clear voices and a polished professional sound characterise the work of Ostara.

***ROBIN STOREY, best known for his musical avatar RAPOON, has written his first book, a 68-page short story about a group of characters navigating an unfamiliar and changing world. A Pale Blue Door takes place in the past, the present and the future, and may involve time travel. The people in the story are trying to live their lives as best they can, but a mysterious spaceman floats in and out of view, affecting them in different ways, and never quite touching the ground. A Pale Blue Door is a tightly written, well paced tale that reveals its secrets slowly. Robin Storey’s prose is concise and economical, engaging and seductive. The book begs to be read again and again. Accompanying the book is a 60-minute Rapoon CD, also titled A Pale Blue Door. The compositions utilize recordings of stars, manned space missions, radio signals and emissions made available through NASA’s official website. There are also field recordings made on the marshlands of the Solway Firth in Cumberland. 8.5 x 5.5 x 0.25 inch book.

***With their new 10 inch EP The Fish & The Fist, Swedish band LOVAC return to explore desolate places far beyond the familiar and comfortable. This album follows their 2010 debut CD Apes of a Cold God (Soleilmoon) with a new goth-tronic sound lifted aloft by ANDERS CARLSSON’s baritone and ERICA LI’s pure alto voices, and carried further with the inventive compositions and mixing of ANDREAS CATJAR and MARTIN KRALL. It’s the perfect sound for interior travels. LOVAC is part of a larger movement of modern European pop music that draws inspiration from traditional folk music and re-imagines it in a fertile and inspired clash with the contemporary minimalist industrial and electronic scene. Death In June’s Douglas P, whose songs Lovac covered in 2008 as DOWN IN JUNE calls it “Totenpop”. Analog synthesizers are layered over electric guitars and voice, supplemented by a variety of acoustic images, including military drums and Persian classical music instrument, the santoor. ***Digilogue was originally issued in 1996 as a limited edition clear vinyl LP. It was followed two years later in 1998 by a CD containing three bonus tracks. The CD has been out of print for more than a year. As of today it’s the only :zoviet*france: release in circulation worldwide. The rest of their catalog is out of print! The music recorded for Digilogue examines the subtle and shifting nuances that contrast the Digital and Analog worlds. :zoviet*france: have always professed their fascination with the failings of the technology by which music is produced, recorded, mass-produced and played back. They have frequently adapted the faults that their own machines develop into means of reshaping raw sound, the basic material with which they work: “All audio equipment distorts sound to some degree and, eventually through mechanical and electrical failure, fucks it up. Since indeterminacy as a compositional parameter has been a constant in our work, this often produces what we regard as interesting new developments. Digilogue was recorded using a mixture of failing analogue equipment and high-end digital equipment, and monitored in our studio exclusively on damaged hi-fi speakers. Sound can be as dirty and as clumsy as anything else we perceive with our senses. This is just as true of sound generated in the digital domain, much as we would all like to believe the claims of near-perfection made by audio equipment manufacturers.”

The Tables Are Turning
Soleilmoon

***Somewhere in the rainy, misty forests of the Pacific Northwest of America, three ladies have the unlikely task of sewing together the packaging for a new album by :zoviet*france:. The music was composed as the soundtrack to Designer Body, a dance that toured England from 2008 to 2009. The work explores the transformational relationship between humans and the clothing they wear. Seven dancers, performing on continuously rotating plinths, slowly remove layers of their costumes, revealing the sensuous nude bodies beneath. The music accompanying the dancers is by turns dense and moody, then lyrical and soaring, underlining the mounting vulnerability of the dancers as they undress. The members of :zoviet*france:, who prefer to remain annonymous, write “We've known Liv Lorent for a long time. When she started to conceive Designer Body, which she wanted to be a hybrid of contemporary dance and performance art, she decided that an unconventional performance needed an unconventional soundtrack. The composition of the soundtrack and the choreography evolved alongside each other so it became a dialogue between Liv and ourselves. The main inspiration that we took from the production's concept was rotation; throughout the one hour performance, the dancers are located on turntables that turn continuously, at varying speeds and changing direction. We mirrored this in much of the soundtrack, with circular and rotating sounds.”  Both formats (CD and double LP) are presented in a deluxe dual-layer green satin bag with fold-over flap. The letters ‘ZF’ are hand-stitched into the flap in white thread, and...

Satyricon: Madness And Glory
Soleilmoon

***In 1983, Satyricon Nightclub opened in old town Portland, Oregon. Located in one of the grittiest neighborhoods on the West Coast, Satyricon became a fertile ground and launching pad for what would be the Northwest sound of the late Eighties and early Nineties. Before Satyricon opened there was no stable scene for Portland's alternative bands; Satyricon gave them that place. Satyricon was not only a venue that featured live music, it also showcased some of Portland's finest alternative poets, artists, and performance artists. Satyricon: Madness and Glory is an independent documentary brought to you by Director and Executive Producer MIKE LASTRA. Mike Lastra has worked as a producer and sound engineer for over three decades and has recorded some of the regions most notable alternative bands. He is also known for his documentary Northwest Passage: The Birth of Portland's DIY Culture, as well as his role in one of Portland's most psychedelic bands ever, SMEGMA. Satyricon: Madness and Glory is a full color, in depth look at the nightclub, featuring quality recordings of some of Portland's most influential artists as well as exciting(and sometimes bizarre) interviews with everyone from the owner, to rock stars, employees, music fans, and assorted eccentrics. It features vintage video performance as well as hundreds of photographs from the era. The film is a culturally relevant, highly entertaining look at one of Portland's historic treasures, and it rocks! Features POISON IDEA, JACKALS, NAPALM BEACH, OBITUARIES, PIERCED ARROWS, WEHRMACHT, JAD FAIR, MELVINS, and more.

***Stray is the new album by ROBIN STOREY, otherwise known as RAPOON. His previous release for Soeilmoon was Melancholic Songs of the Desert, released in 2009. He has more than 50 albums and singles going back 20 years to his 1992 debut recording, Dream Circle. Improvisational, accoustic, electronic, and artfully arranged, the music of Rapoon is the auditory manifestation of impressionism. Robin Storey paints his songs with small details and fleeting impressions that evoke a mood or place in the listener’s imagination. Stray opens with a simple recording of a women’s choir, then in the next two tracks Storey transforms and transmutes the voices, adding pastel tones and rough shadows until the original canvas has been completely repainted. The fourth piece sprinkles tropical songbirds over distant drones and off-world rhythms, moving East until again, after two more songs, an entirely different atmosphere has emerged. The last three songs take up half of the album, and include two long pieces that comprise entire worlds unto themselves, from bedrock to mountaintop. Transitory, ephemeral clouds of sound flow down imaginary frozen canyons, pouring across weathered rocks and running to windswept shores, carrying sand, pollen and promises of spring’s renewal. Taken together, the nine songs on Stray are as gorgeous as they are oblique and engaging. Stray is presented in lavishly printed CD slipcase and folder with vellum overwrap. In a world of generic music sold in dull packaging, the exquisite cover created for this CD makes it an object to treasure, yet it...

The trio played a slew of live gigs in the New York City area, blasting audiences with an improvised instrumental mix of blistering guitar riffs, hypnotic bass loops, pounding drumbeats and fractured noise. Alice In Wonderland
Soleilmoon

***Alice In Wonderland, by Los Angeles, California composer and musician RANDY GREIF, is a gripping and imaginative telling of Lewis Carroll’s classic story. Using electronics and altered acoustic sounds, along with more traditional instruments, Greif creates a dark and beguiling atmosphere that captures the listener’s imagination. The spoken text is deconstructed into indecipherable phonemes, or laid into rhythmic, musical structures roughly approximating songs. At times, the sonic backdrop is used in a cinematic style behind electronically manipulated voices. Running about six hours, the work was created to move within the real-time cycles of a psychedelic experience. Although the original story has many layers of meaning, Greif intends this interpretation to include some that may be beyond the scope of the original, such as a little girl's shift from childhood to adolescence, and our species' evolution into technological beings. This is not your father’s audiobook. Unless your father was Timothy Leary. The CDs are presented in tall DVD case, with and 8-page color booklet. Most interesting to collectors are the Alice in Wonderland trading cards published in conjunction with the release. Sixty different cards have been created, each one corresponding to one of the sixty tracks on the CDs. The image on each card evolves from the last, like the frames of an animated film. Melancholic Songs Of The Desert
Soleilmoon

***“These songs were composed during the last days of the Bush/Blair era and reflect the feeling of isolation and disconnection from any part of the political process and any sense of identification with the prevailing air of hostility and intolerance generated by this pair of religious xenophobes. The unjustified war in Iraq and the subsequent lies and propaganda engendered a feeling of revulsion and powerlessness. Once again it was ‘unpatriotic’ to criticize or protest against the government’s actions, and there was a rise in nationalism and extremist views. These songs are a retreat into the one place that no government has yet found a way into, the free and open spaces of the mind. They are spontaneous and mediative reflections looking for an inner peace in a world made ugly by hatred and war. They symbolize a kind of ‘walkabout’ and a reconnection with a lost sense of belonging spiritually, intellectually and physically with the world we inhabit. In a broader sense they also re-affirm long held sympathies with the thoughts of writers and philosophers such as Camus, Sartre and Burroughs, and the profound wisdom of eastern philosophies such as Taoism and Zen. The music here looks for a sense of inner being that one can only find in quiet isolation.”—Robin Storey

Infinite Sea Of Sustain

***Fear Falls Burning is Dirk Serries' love letter to the world of electric guitar drones. Serries, best known for his solo act VidnaObmana, launched Fear Falls Burning in the winter of 2005 as an outlet for his fascination with lo-fi and post-rock music, and as a way to return to his roots in drone music, where he first began 22 years ago. By processing the sounds of his Les Paul guitars through a large and elaborately configured collection of effects pedals, Serries produces improvisational music that is by turns meditative, rhythmic and occasionally thunderous. A typical performance begins with a simple, sustained guitar chord. This opening sound seeds the ground from which the entire piece is grown. As the looping and processing techniques are applied, the music evolves, dictating the direction of the performance. It is truly an improvisational process, but at the masterful hands of Serries, one that spins a new and mysterious kind of music, fully infused with a rare passion and soul. Packaged in stunning 5 x 8 inch (12.5 x20.5 cm) folders made from hand-processed wood grain paper custom made by Shantilal & Sons of Bombay, India, with no two copies alike. An array of genres, from the pseudo-ragtime of “Drawn & Quartered” to the gothic kindermusik of “Miss Marilla Huxley,” create a strange mix unlike any you’ve ever heard. Douglas P’s voice, appearing in numerous places throughout the record, lends a suitably austere and dark atmosphere to the proceedings. ***For his twenty-fifth CD as NOCTURNAL EMISSIONS, NIGEL AYERS has created a work that balances noise and vocal samples against a wild array of loops and rhythm tracks. Inspired by the sounds of modern Morocco, Collateral Salvage is beat-oriented, toe-tappin' music created from hundreds of samples of indie guitar pop interspersed with fragments of sound and surreal speech, and fused with strong basslines, exotic rhythms, Eastern grooves, subtle tonalities, horns, tabla, and vintage synth sounds.
