Contoured Euphoria by Maymind

Maymind

Contoured Euphoria
Tigerbeat6

Following a busy 2018, LA-based producer, DJ, and writer Maymind is back with Contoured Euphoria, his third full-length and second release on Kid606’s Tigerbeat6 label, out Nov 18. Closing a trilogy of recordings that began in 2016 with Illumina (Umor Rex), followed by 2017’s Cheap Storage (Atlantic Rhythms), the ten tracks of Contoured Euphoria find Maymind working again in dreamy, drenched textures; though unlike Cheap Storage’s notes of UK garage and dub techno, drone and psychedelia informed most of the outcomes. A fog hangs over and unites the tracks, which, despite the variety in texture and timbre, share an intimacy and directness, something directly informed by Maymind’s working methods.  Tracks like “The Window in the Bathroom in Your Old Apartment” show how adept Maymind is painting a picture without words; blurry chords seep into the frame, evoking a quiet afternoon of rain pattering overhead. Like much of the record, the track has a duplicitous feel that marries the serenity of the Pacific Northwest with grittier flavors that recall urban locales like New York and Chicago, without committing to each with any specificity.  Rarely does an idea enter and exit without first exploring its own boundaries. It’s this slow build and decay that hints at Maymind’s unwillingness to bend to the time pressure omnipresent in today’s information-hungry society: an act of rebuttal, Contoured Euphoria gradually waxes and wanes, allowing its hinges to creak.  The album’s centerpiece, “While They Are Deciding” is one of the few tracks that does...

Perpetual Dawn Ep1 by Force Placement

Force Placement

Perpetual Dawn Ep1
Tigerbeat6

Perpetual Dawn, the notorious underground Los Angeles techno party launches a new dancefloor oriented EP series with this inaugural release from Force Placement.  Jason James aka Force Placement is a Los Angeles based DJ/Producer equally adept at acid house, techno, dub, ambient, minimal, electro and leftfield/IDM. He Hosts FP radio on RWD.FM and co-runs The Black Lodge, one of LA’s premiere underground techno parties, hosting the likes of Silent Servant, Claude Young, Svengalisghost, 2AM/FM, Santiago Salazar and more.  On this EP Mr. Placement goes for the jugular straight out of the gate with "Dirty Camry", an industrial-grade tribal electro stomper made for those with an appetite for destruction. This is followed by two cerebral deep acid-techno excursions "Mirrors" and "My Mind is Telling Me No", the latter serving up booming warehouse drums and hazy atmospherics that are sure to make ears prick up on the dance floor. On the flip we have the blown-out alternate mix of "Mirrors" with raw, distorted drums and scorching 303 action. Lastly we're treated to the glassy-eyed minimal electro cut "Lifter", a dreamy ambient voyage into the unknown.

Perpetual Dawn - Year One by V/a

V/a

Perpetual Dawn - Year One
Tigerbeat6

Perpetual Dawn is an underground all-night techno club in Los Angeles that combines the free spirit and “anything goes” vibe of European clubs like Berghain and Bangface with the vivacious and much needed L.A. illegal warehouse party scene spearheaded by Droid Behavior, VSSL, Mount Analog, Rhonda, and Far Away. Composed of rad songs from the raddest acts who’ve performed at Perpetual Dawn since inception in June 2015, this compilation’s got dance-floor jams from Peaking Lights Acid Test, Personable (M. Geddes Gengras’s live techno project), Kid606, Map.Ache (Geigling/Kann Records), Kit n C.L.A.W.S (Kit Clayton and Brian Hock), KRON, and Dntel. Meanwhile, Xiu Xiu, Mark Van Hoen (Locust), Yann Novak, Baseck, Sana Shenai, Golden Hits, Live for Each Moon, and S&ndC&stl& provide freakedout experimental electronics and blissed-out ambient jams. This is an undeniably special place where you can kick back, see friends, and lose yourself on the dance floor—where you can be who you want to be, and come away feeling alive. Every night has a different theme ranging from tributes to Alejandro Jodorowsky, Warp Records or Carl Sagan to a celebration of Instagram-age narcissism or a lazer-filled, all black-light night.

Recollected Ambient Works Vol. 2: Escape To Los Angeles by Kid 606

Kid 606

Recollected Ambient Works Vol. 2: Escape To Los Angeles
Tigerbeat6

Moving beyond the piano-based minimalism of Bored of Excitement, this second volume in Kid606’s ambient series blends laid-back gamelan-influenced synthesizers with resonant field recordings and melancholic leads.  These ten tracks of completely drumless compositions are both restless and meditative. Waves of distortion mix with languid basslines and playful strings. John Lilly would approve.  “Escape to Los Angeles is a musical diary of the most peculiar and outlandish year of my life. After leaving Berlin to move to Los Angeles, I was immediately hit with a deeply unsettling Existential Dread of Living in another big city so soon. To avoid facing making a decision on where to live or what was going on in my psyche I went on a long road trip, ending with a pilgrimage to Roden Crater. I assumed I would live on the grounds there for a while to ‘get right with the world.’  “At a friend’s wedding in San Francisco along the way, I fell in love with an amazing girl who actually lived in Los Angeles. I still wasn’t ready to move back to L.A., and Roden Crater was way too far from L.A. to start a long-distance relationship. So we compromised and I moved to Joshua Tree instead. Even though I grew up in Southern California I had never even visited there. It was always a dream of mine to just roll up into some desert town where I don’t know anyone. To just rent a furnished apartment and see what...

Recollected Ambient Works Vol. 1: Bored Of Excitement by Kid 606

Kid 606

Recollected Ambient Works Vol. 1: Bored Of Excitement
Tigerbeat6

Best known for his frantic, sampledelic style going back to the late ’90s, Tigerbeat6 boss Kid606 (a.k.a. Miguel De Pedro) presents his latest work, Recollected Ambient Works Vol. 1: Bored of Excitement. While De Pedro is no stranger to ambient music, Bored of Excitement is his first release to owe a significant debt to the Berlin School. The album consists of seven truly pastoral, piano-based compositions shrugging off any trace of his glitch signature.  “After what would be my last Post-Berghain 9:00 A.M. psychotic break with reality, I knew I needed a change but decided that checking myself into a Berlin psych ward when I still only speak English was probably not the best idea. I realized this kind of thing never happened to me back in California and I should probably just get my shit together and move to Los Angeles immediately. “Reading about how Brian Eno was inspired to create the first ambient album Discreet Music while healing from an automobile accident, I observed my own bedridden state and my heart was set on doing something similar. I was going to stay home, get sane and make music without beats, samples, glitches or pretty much anything but piano. This was incredibly hard. I had started, but could not finish it. Even after sending the songs to a bunch of friends and listening to them endlessly, I just couldn’t do it. Feeling desperate to just get out of Berlin ASAP, I gave up on the album and instead...

Recollected Ambient Works, Vol. 1.5: Discreet Music by Kid 606

Kid 606

Recollected Ambient Works, Vol. 1.5: Discreet Music
Tigerbeat6

This cover of Brian Eno's seminal Discreet Music is a musical epilogue for Kid606's Bored of Excitement full length out in May. This single 30 minute song maintains the spirit and harmonic progressions from the original, but it eschews synthesizers and tape loops in favor of multitracked piano, multiple reverbs and pitch-modulated phasing. Discreet music came before Eno's Ambient 1: Music for Airports. It laid the foundation for modern ambient music by building upon Erik Satie's "furniture music" concept. Eno employed a generative compositional technique which creates an ever shifting atmosphere which is free from any traditional musical meter. Kid606's version is both a tribute and transformation of the original concept. The focus is still on filling the space of the environment it is listened in. Just like the lighting  in a room can be used to change the mood, this piece of functional music maybe left on at various volumes for many purposes in various spaces. In many ways this updated version has been altered to seem even more random and less repetitious to make it more suitable for listening to it on repeat for hours on end. Sidereal Bedtime Version is an eighty minute recreation that gives extra attention to spatial dynamics for maximum hypnotic effect. It slowly ends by gently folding in on itself to create a soothing fade out which makes it the perfect musical accompaniment to fall asleep to.

The RAVE is ON. All hail Duran Duran Duran for giving us these classic tunes that combine the soul of bottom heavy electro like Aux 88, Cybotron, Dynamix II and Model 500, with the no holds barred sonic assault of Lory D, AFX, Richard Devine, Phoenecia and LFO at their most twisted. Remixes come from Joe Lentini, the prolific producer well known in the underground scene as Schematic Music Company's resident madman, and Rory St. John, a Berlin Technophile  with a taste for mangled basslines and distorted drums.

“The Kid's most accomplished work to date and, finally, a Kid606 LP that's available on both formats!! The hottest property on the electronic scene at the moment whether its reworking 'straight outta compton' (v/vm), cheekily stating 'luke vibert can kiss my indie punk whiteboy ass' or running his own label, 'P.S. I Love You' is a step into more tranquil listening than usual and a more matured effort than his 'Soccer Girl' EP. From the click techno puissance of 'where we left off' and 'twirl' to the easing resonance of 'sometimes', the cascading 'vehemence' of 'strum' or the brilliance of 'now i wanna be a cowboy'...this album takes the foundations of minimalist composition and is rekindled with Kid 606's distinctive style. Highly Recommended!!!”—Boomkat

“KID606 returns with remixes of tracks lifted from the acclaimed 'P.S. I Love You' LP. Force Inc recording artist Twerk resounds the Kid's high-wave, multi-layered skills into a euphoric treatment for the techno masses. Farben (Jan Jelinek) pulls out a click-house masterpiece that resonates the sweet ambience of 'sometimes'. Matmos are up next, tackling 'twirl' into a humorous dance floor killer. Atom Heart brings forth a remix that totally crystalises the click-house genre he helped revolutionize. The lovely Pan American offer up a mesmerizing interpretation in beat driven splendor. Shitkatapukt's Rechenzentrum also use the 4-4 but totally re-animate and shift up the Kid's sound. Finally, Electric Company renovates the purpose of the remix with a definitive twist while Fennesz imbues proceedings with his consistently lovely, subtle sound.  Two new versions of 'together' and 'twirl' are included by the Kid himself, and a video of a brand new Kid 606 track is on the CD - directed by Dan Abrams.”—Boomkat

Tigerbeat6

The concept: Throw some Belgian Newbeat, Land of Rape and Honey era Ministry, The Field, Suicide, Neu, Front 242, EBM, and Swans into a blender, add some kale, coconut oil and almond butter and Viola.   What are the lyrics about ? Well according to some random internet user named Alllice who likes to leave comments on the website www.songmeanings.com, "This is about killing someone, possibly a recent acquaintance, and about helplessness of people, which are easily loved and killed ("in the dark")."   I am pretty sure that is not accurate but it sure is fascinating that we live in a world where random people can share their ideas about the meanings other peoples songs to other random people, seriously wow, thank you internet.  all music by Jamie Stewart, additional production by Miguel De Pedro.

Kid606’s pursuit of happiness comes to a close with this collection of stellar remixes from his last LP.  Areal records techno guru Basteroid provides a super dynamic non-dancefloor remix of “Blood Stevia Sex magik”. Miffy goes into total late night underground dubby techno club vibes for both of his remixes, channeling the relentless spirit of Berghain, Club Mate and GHB (Minus the Date rape of course.) Rw Smith sings and dances his way through a Genre bending symphonic trap version of “Cloud Sculpting” Reminiscent of Baths, Rick Ross and John Adams. One of our favorite Japanese electronic music composers, MimiCof AKA Midori Hirano, retains the original glitchy uplifting spirit of “Tarsier Treehouse” while adding tasty skittering beats and drippy synthesizers.  Magic Panda does his highly original electro-shoegazey thing as only he can. Is his “Cloud Sculpting” remix better then the original? For the sake ego of Kid606’s ego we will not say, but it’s definitely a close call! AM Version lives in San Francisco and releases house music on Roam Recordings. His über laid back saxophone heavy remix of “Smooth Sailing” is the perfect closer for the EP. It keeps the yacht rock feel of the original while adding some AFX styled analog synthesis and sweet wailing vocals from Alona.

French electronic band DAT Politics returns to Tigerbeat6 with their brand new EP. The followup to 2012’s Blitz Gazer album, Powermoon sets itself up smoothly in the group’s evolving universe, launching incandescent shooting stars like “Fox Box Sound” and “Trance Mission” alongside gravity-free lullabies like “Boogie Mind” and “Ghost Town.” The final moonquake comes from the collaboration with Drew Daniel’s The Soft Pink Truth on a booty version of “Hold That Pose (My Mother Told Me).” DAT Politics has toured the world extensively since forming in 1999, displaying incredible energy on stage and generating a cult-like enthusiasm for their eminently danceable brand of electro-pop. Founding members Claude Pailliot and Gaëtan Collet are also known for their side projects Tone Rec and Skipp, and have influenced a generation of young electronic composers across the globe. The group has appeared at loads of festivals over the years—Warp label night in England, CTM in Berlin, Sonar in Barcelona, Dour Festival in Belgium, and Donau Festival in Austria—and remixed a bunch of great musicians like Jaga Jazzist, The Blow, Architecture in Helsinki and YACHT.

Happiness is nostalgic, starry-eyed and idyllic. Sonically influenced in equal parts by yacht rock like Christopher Cross, Doobie Brothers, Toto, and charming electronica like Mike Ink, The Orb, Oval, Border Community, the Field, and Tangerine Dream, its truest intrinsic inspiration comes not from other music, but from real life events like relocating from Berlin to Los Angeles, being newly single, beaches, road trips, hiking, sunsets and cuddling. The album is the complete opposite of 2012’s Lost in the Game, which was a cryptic exploration of disorientation, psychosis and depression. Instead of indulging in melancholy, these songs draw from the most cheerful moments of the here and now, connecting them to the best memories from childhood and late adolescence.  “Cute Never Dies” is a perfect title and song to usher in this new set—picture µ-Ziq’s happier melodies supplemented with orchestral cuts. “Coronado Bay Breezin’” occupies the same top-down contentedness space as Nate Dogg’s classic “Where I Wanna Be” refrain, while appropriately playful “Happiness Is a Warm Kitten” offers a squishy soul hug replete with vocal stabs. The older and wiser Kid606 hasn’t lost his knack for epic track titles; “If I Am Only Allowed One Song on This Album with Cut Up Female Vocals Then This Song Is It” is a beautiful and exuberant builder with bassy beds made for the cooing vocal cuts. Melodically driven in a way that supersedes the transitory Lost in the Game, Happiness gives way to thoughtful euphoria—blast “Party Gambas” and its joyful pad sweeps,...

Going Back To Kali Yuga Ep
Tigerbeat6

In anticipation of his new album, 'Happiness', Kid606 has dropped a 6 track mixtape of exclusive new, non-album tracks. Given Kid606's recent return to California, the mixtape title 'Going Back to Kali Yuga' has an obvious meaning. Then again, the Hindu Kali Yuga epoch has been going on since over 3000 years BC. Any return to this apocalyptic time could only be one of consciousness. The Sikhs consider this an era when people should meditate as much as possible. What Kid606 has to meditate upon that is dark and involves a return to where he started is up for speculation though. In the meantime, enjoy these freaked-out moody synth-hop jams!

Temple Of A Thousand Lights by Magic Panda

Magic Panda

Temple Of A Thousand Lights
Tigerbeat6

Temple of a Thousand Lights is the debut album release from 31 year old UK producer Jamie Robson aka Magic Panda. An entire year in the making, Temple is the full length follow up to the well-received "Days are Numbered" and "Tokyo" EPs, with the titular tracks of both EPs making their way onto the LP. Having spent several years establishing his sound, down to his acute and obsessive attention to detail, Magic Panda arrived late on the electronic music scene in 2011 with his debut EP, The Glass Mountain but in this short time has attracted support from and been playlisted by the likes of Laurent Garnier, Hernan Cattaneo and Max Cooper (whose remix of Distant Places featured on the Tokyo EP and skyrocketed to the top of the Beatport electronica charts). In addition to a handful of EPs and remixes, he has developed a club orientated live set and played alongside Luke Abbott, Ricardo Tobar, Mount Kimbie, Portico Quartet and DMX Krew both in the UK and across Europe.  Temple of a Thousand Lights is an album of contrasts, from the propulsive and energetic opener Tokyo, and Zwolf, to the delicate and expansive Luna Rosa and Mothlight, it is an exploration of light and dark spaces (Chiaroscuro), euphoria and melancholia (Days are Numbered, A Perfect Circle). Despite these contrasts the tracks are unified by their powerful intensity, creative song form and by the thread of wistful melodies that runs throughout. Temple's melodies allude to far away spaces,...

Magic Panda creates ethereal and energetic electronic compositions, peppered with broken percussion and wistful melodies which swirl around a warm techno pulse and Tokyo is the perfect embodiment of this aesthetic. Tokyo is a bold statement of intent showcasing the future direction Magic Panda is heading in. It is a beautiful, shimmering and propulsive merging of Border Community inspired techno and understated Lo-Fi-but-not-lazy shoegaze energy. It is the first single from his forthcoming full length Tigerbeat6 Album "Temple of a thousand lights" and includes a stellar collection of remixes from Max Cooper, Kid606, Groj, Lanny May, Defled, and Mary Yalex.  2011-12 has seen Magic Panda developing his studio sound and live set up and he has enjoyed high profile concerts in the UK and across Europe, playing alongside the likes of Luke Abbott, Ricardo Tobar, The Portico Quartet, Mount Kimbie and DMX Krew. First up on remix duties is none other than Max Cooper (Traum / Herzblut.) Max puts to work his unique blend of glitch-fused techno on 'Distant Places' , taking listeners on a melancholic journey through light and dark spaces. Lost In The Game by Kid 606

Lost In The Game
Tigerbeat6

“Fuck up everything you can before you plan on slowing down.” There’s a mouthful of youthful hubris, originally expressed by a 21-year-old Miguel De Pedro, a.k.a. Kid606. In the twelve years since that statement, things have definitely been fucked up. Here’s the stats: ten albums, ten cats, two failed engagements, countless psychedelic and chemical revelations, lapping the world multiple times to play in more countries then he previously knew existed, a hairline that would make a Franciscan monk proud, Buddhism and physical fitness—remember how Miles Davis turned himself around and got into boxing? It’d be tempting to use some cliché about reflection (“Kid606’s Blood on the Tracks!”; “now it’s Adult606!”) but that’s not the case. Lost in the Game is a sea-change, but it’s not Sea Change. Instead, it’s a revised focus. Everything’s been fucked up, and you can create the world’s most headphucking fuck-ups with any number of plugins. Anyone can be an “anti-DJ” sound artist. Mashups have gone to the posh clubs. Here De Pedro confronts an unlikely new partner—melody. The beats on Game don’t disintegrate every second bar anymore. The Kid could spend the rest of his life playing “I love the 2000s” to nostalgic audiences, but what the hell kind of creative life is it when you stop evolving at 26? The eccentric song titles are still present, but opener “Godspeed You African American Emperor” lays down the new ground rules. Distorted organs and snaky arpeggios with a beat that’s more there to keep the party...

Gimme Summer Ep
Tigerbeat6

Winter in Berlin can be hell, especially when you are detoxing from the summer's hedonic festivities and this is just when Kid606 was so inspired by the icy gloom and doom to create "Gimme Summer", an uplifting and dynamic combination of nostalgic synth-pop, warm shoegazey IDM and propulsive Hip-hop beats. After falling in love with Claude Speeed's remix of Kuedo's "Work, Live & Sleep In Collapsing Space" on Planet Mu,  we wanted to work with him ASAP and are beyond pleased with his equally spacey and indulgent seven minute epic remix of Gimme Summer. Newest Tigerbeat6 signee Magic Panda from the mystic hinterland of Norfolk, UK gets all ethereal and uplifting on his Lo-fi Techno remix of "New Boss Same As Old Boss" (A new track from Kid606's upcoming "Lost in the Game" album.) Avant Garde/Darkwave/Indie rock icons Xiu Xiu (Kill Rock Stars, Polyvinyl, Bella Union) provide a somber toned down Mix reminiscent of Brock Van Wey, Main and Flying saucer attack. The last three tracks are exclusive to this release and are Kid606's musical interpretations on the rest of the four seasons using the same studio setup he used to make Gimme Summer.

What a long, strange trip it’s been. Mostly, it’s been a trip.   Here’s a more melodic Kid606 – older, wiser, more in touch with the inner self. As such, you’ve got warm intricate melodies over snappy hip-hop beats on “Dark Archipelago” and “Love Me” that wouldn’t be out of touch coming from Ratatat. “I Want Her Wings” and the title track, meanwhile, spin cloud rap into a more melancholy, introspective vibe. Here’s where that decayed cousin of acid shows up, in stray bent synth squelches that fall through a reverb bedding.   We do get our moment of truly surreal beauty, however, with “When Things Come Together”, somewhere between rave comedown and the sci-fi nostalgia of the Blade Runner soundtrack. “Temporary Revelations” and especially closer “Hood Gone Mad” further this theme, with the EP ending by coming in from the cold in an electronic dystopia. It’s gritty out there, but you can always come home and turn on the synths.

Christoph de Babalon’s new album conjures up the spirits of melancholy and romanticism in a cold and shallow world. It’s a powerful opus deserving of its own movie about sad love and the wish to give life sense in the absence of a better future. We all are filled with hope and dreams of love before realizing the futility of life, and it is at this point that de Babalon stands on razors edge. This album harnesses the energy of heartbreak and despair as fuel to create dramatically beautiful music that finds its power inside darkness. “Is it possible that existence is our exile and nothingness our home?” (Emile M. Cioran) A mastery of his tools and over two decades of esoteric knowledge of electronic music is applied throughout the album, managing to implement the best aspects of the ever evolving jungle, breakbeat ambient, and modern bass scenes. Standout tracks like “Into The Shadows”, “Traumspiel” and “A Little Less” seem both familiar and futuristic at the same time. The beatless “Mist Of Life” and “Hunger” are so deep and well executed they could be performed by a full orchestra and will stay fresh for years to come like classic David Cronenberg. Most artists live in their own self created world of indulgence and delusion, hoping that the audience will be enticed to hop on board for a fun ride until the next distraction comes along, but very few artists are willing to come face to face with emptiness to transcend...

Ejaculazer Tag
Tigerbeat6

Ejaculazer Tag: A big 80 bpm blast of shiny synthesizer funk influenced in equal parts by Dr. Dre, Daft Punk, and Vangelis. Mochipet brings an epic remix that makes the original sound small in comparison with sweeping strings and a soaring angelic vocal chorus. We call it life: another 80 bpm Sci-fi hip hop jam, but dark and brooding with a more dirty south crunk influence. Ejaculazer Tag 160bpm club remix: High power 160 bpm hyped up juke styled remix. Cartoon funk: this one is just plain freaky and weird like someone spilled cough syrup in your 808 and it had a mind of its own. Ejaculazer Tag - Joe Lentini Dub: New Schematic artist Joe Lentini shows another side of his incredibly diverse style with this thick and contemplative smoothjam. Let’s Get Radioactive - Kanji Kinetic remix: Mutantbass Mastermind and the UK’s most underrated producer makes a fun and nasty hardcore crowdpleaser out of Kid606’s delusional song about aliens and nuclear energy. Cover art by Dj Zhao.

Longtime Tigerbeat6 brother Christoph de Babalon (he appeared on our first AND third release over a decade ago!!) graces us with this haunting single from his upcoming album A Bond with Sorrow. CDB is a peerless musician able to effortlessly combine the high art worlds of his sound installations, dance and film soundtracks, with the low end dark realms of his more sinister work on labels like Alec Empire’s Digital Hardcore Recordings (DHR), Fatcat, Zhark, Lowres and his own [CFET]. It’s no question why he has been championed by tastemakers as diverse as John Peel, Thom Yorke, and Alec Empire. The title track “Traumspiel” opens like a classic Dario Argento soundtrack with spine tingling strings and a romantic arpeggiating bass line. Things seem almost peaceful until the drop of the timeless shuffling Jungle breakbeats CDB has made a signature part of his sound. “Hell’s Harps” is a dark juxtaposition of chaotic live instrumentation and discordant drum programming like a soundclash between Sonic Youth and Aphex Twin at their scariest. “Black Moon Rising” is am ominous percussive meditation on tension and release which rewards the listener with a powerful sonic resolution. The cover artwork just as on Christoph’s previous releases Scylla & Charybdis and A World of My Own is by British visual artist Ian Liddle.

Let's Get Radioactive (or How I Learned To Stop Worrying And Love Nuclear Energy)
Tigerbeat6

This is my new EP. Musically influenced by dirty south crunked out hip-hop, retardedly distorted dumbstep drops, Marvin Gaye, and a bit of Terry Riley/Steve Reich piano magic; conceptually influenced by the raping and destruction of our planet from conspicuous consumption, uncontrolled capitalism, constant overstimulation and the endless quest for more. Oh, and a lot of it is what an alien entity from another dimension told me about how I should be ok with the way things are and think positively regarding our upcoming nuclear-fueled techno utopia and/or apocalypse (Utopiapocalypse?). I’ve been told the only way left to save the world is for society to self implode, and use the planet up for all its worth so our then uninhabitable earth can be better off without us. Sounds like the way things are going, right? Even if we say that we are willing to lead simpler and less overindulgent lifestyles, and that we don’t want all our options to be faster, sexier, cheaper, better, bigger... the choices are always being made for us. The less expensive and more accessible non-renewable energy is, the worse things are going to get. But hey, at least you will be able to drive an electric car, and may even get that jet pack you dreamt about when you were a kid... Remixes come courtesy of Deathface (Trouble & Bass), Wad of Money (Dolby Anol) and Duke Slammer (Luke’s Anger/Bonus Round).

Very few artists these days aren’t trying hard to use digital technology to produce a perfectly precise and cleaned up musical “product” for you to consume or for DJs to play out. Dead Fader is raw as fuck and seriously not playing by the rulebook and we should all thank him for caring so little about not caring too much. The results are 100% as original as unconventional, and quite possibly make up the most abrasive and grooving release we have ever put out. Previous Dead Fader releases on UK label 3by3 showcased a clear fascination with perverting current dubstep styles into their own twisted vision, but this ep is clearly a hiphop affair, minimal and funky, with the occasional swing or industrial IDM stomp thrown in to keep things interesting. Dead Fader mainman John Cohen cites modern influences like NHK, Jamie Vex’d, Clark, Loops Haunt, Rustie, Flying Lotus and Emptyset to go along with the obvious Pan Sonic and Merzbow vibe that shines through unmistakably on each track.

Is this for real? Is Sensational really about money, or is he just messing with us? Let’s say that the answer is both. Never one to let the mundane get in the way of delivering mind-scrubbing rhymes, Sensational spits on “We Want Ca$h” with a woozy cadence that suggests kindred headspinners Kool Keith and the MFs Doom and Grimm. For his part, Cardopusher drops a synth line straight from a 1985-infomercial, with a bed of fresh circa-2011 beat-and-bass boom. It’s a highlight cut from Cardopusher’s most recent album, Yr Fifteen Minutes Are Up. You already knew “We Want Ca$h” in its original state, so let’s look at those remixes. Nehuen screws down the breakneck pace of juke for a syrupy and skittery take, while Sesped (hailing from Cardopusher’s birth city, Caracas, Venezuela) throws down some orgasmic cries over butcher-block beats, before things take a turn for the arcade with the digital squeals on Baconhead’s remix. Things get more jumpy with Kid606’s energetic undead rave remix of “Pupusa” and Pocz & Pacheko’s demented Reggaeton reworking of “Antisharkz”. Rounding out this EP (very extended play, indeed) is “School Daze”, a new original that is not Cardopusher’s take on Spike Lee’s musical, but almost as good (more hot beats, of course).

Days Are Numbered Ep by Magic Panda

Magic Panda

Days Are Numbered Ep
Tigerbeat6

Like a nice warm pot roast, Magic Panda is a dish that took time to cook. In fact, the music represents seven years of studio noodling from 30-year-old Jamie Robson, laboring to get everything just where it needed to be in setup and in results. You might expect such results to sound scattershot and overdone, but the Days Are Numbered EP goes down like a warm, gentle reminder of just how much emotion and wonder can be wrung out of a few sounds (again, think pot roast). Days Are Numbered merges detailed electronic production with delicate melodies, similar to the “plinkerpop” stylings of Morr Music’s classic output. These are tracks that tell stories through shimmering synths (the title track), flanged faux-80s goth guitar (“The Mid- Levels”), and pattering, digitally distorted percussion (“Akasha”). Chorusing and unison effects are everywhere here, achingly constructed in a way that suggests a more cosmically aware and less existentially immature M83. Days Are Numbered is the beginning of an instrumental autobiography from a burning talent with observations to share.

Tigerbeat6

It wasn’t enough for us to just reissue Aniaetleprogrammeur’s debut album Die Kir(s)che Auf Dem Kopf, but we are also consecutively unleashing the no-holds barred collection of remixes Der Kopf Auf Der Kir(s)che. These unique and modern reworkings come from Aniaetleprogrammeur themselves alongside: Stereovoid (La Chatte, Peine Perdue, Lustrine, France Fiction) who manages to take “C’est super pour moi” into some dark global house territory. The Escapists, Leonard de Leonard’s new collaboration with graphic designer Elroy, whose mix of “Alcool French” explores the mixed aesthetics of film noirs, adventure novels and movies from the mid 20th century. Axel Danke Schön, (Team Plastique) taking “I am not from London” to a fever-pitched but danceable level of Throbbing Gristle/Nitzer Ebb/ Skinny Puppy styled industrial aggression. aMinus, the solo project of Valentin Plessy (Plateau Repas), reworks “I bet you stalk me” and showcases his love for 80’s synth pop, house music, 8bit chiptune and R&B. Johnny Boy from Paris’s remix of “I am not from London” keeps it arrogant and explosively current while revealing influences such as Suicide, Buzzcocks, and PIL. Mille, the fresh DIY electronica project from the two girls of Plateau Repas, Foufoukoh and Magritte Jaco, who create a musical playground where retro keyboards meet African beats and wild animals in a sensitive road trip without a compass on their remix of “Ich bin müde”.

Die Kir(s)che Auf Dem Kopf by Aniaetleprogrammeur

Aniaetleprogrammeur

Die Kir(s)che Auf Dem Kopf
Tigerbeat6

Aniaetleprogrammeur is an electro-rock band that formed in Paris in 2005 by Ania Jules (machines/synths) and Hanri Gabriel (guitars/ vox/machines/synths). This male/female duo is a fresh and exciting take on the merging of electronic and punk music they call “machinerock”, with massive sounding drums and heavily processed guitars creating a bed for Hanri’s distinctive and harsh vocals to pull you in. They mix the big electro sounds that Berlin is renowned for with the melodic overtones of the Parisian Kitsune sound. The tribal pulse of techno and deep drone of ambient music is layered in all their work, but these are honest and visceral songs, and not another simple exercise in genre blending. This debut album showcases a gloriously noisy and imaginative spirit that hits hard like the bastard child of Einstürzende Neubauten and Atari Teenage Riot, albeit less po-faced than the former and less irritating than the latter. We like to think of it as the perfect mix of cold techno beats and furious glam-punk guitars, comparable to when Nine Inch Nails were groundbreaking and Ministry actually shocked people – and that is why we love them! Besides constantly performing live across Europe at festivals and clubs, Ania has her own highly sought after fashion line Tata Christiane, and the two members regularly perform DJ-sets and have been commissioned for many remixes and soundtracks for theatre, movies, fashion shows, and exhibitions. Their new album will be released on Tata Christiane in October, when they will also start presenting their...

Don't Sweat The Technics++ (1997-1998) by Kid 606

Kid 606

Don't Sweat The Technics++ (1997-1998)
Tigerbeat6

Fun fact: there was a time when Kid606 actually was very much a kid – a hyped-up, metal-mouthed teen with a dream, some machines, and no attention span. With nary a computer in sight, the then-unknown Miguel De Pedro set out to fuck the scene before he even really knew what it was. These raw and noisy Electro/ Gabber/ IDM tracks were mostly made and improvised on a laundry-list of classic gear – the Roland 303, 606, 808, and 909, a Paia Modular, Sequential Circuits Pro-one, Moog Rogue, Akai S3000, and Kurzweill K2000S. Like the slightly more well-known at-the-time Orbital, De Pedro sequenced with an Alesis MMT-8 recording everything live to a DAT walkman without the aid of any multi-tracking (not that it wasn’t available back then, but it takes patience, which was clearly in short supply in Kid606’s hormone- and ADHD-riddled brain). With the aforementioned gear list, you’re thinking acid and techno classix, so stop – remember again who you’re dealing with. Kid606 wasn’t (isn’t) Autechre or Luke Vibert (a-duh), and this sure ain’t Incunabula, to say nothing of “Military Jazz”. Instead, what we have here is a basket of hardcore fun: build from average track bpm’s of around 170bpm, next to no musical knowledge and a whole lot of teenage angst (De Pedro’s no rapper, but let’s just say that Odd Future didn’t invent the fucked-up teenage psyche confessional). We guarantee you an interesting listen; by the end of all 38 tracks you will surely be as appreciative...

Andale Vol.4
Tigerbeat6

It’s summertime, and the living’s sun-drenched and sleep-deprived on our end. The latest entry in Tigerbeat6’s ¡Andalé! Vol. 4 is a nice little soundtrack for after-hours, before-hours, and between-dreamtime partying. Put this on and ignore your pulls toward natural circadian rhythms and lack of darkness in the day – and if you don’t live as far up north as Berlin, just substitute with plenty of cigarette butts, dry heat and lakeside barbecues. As to the music? TB6 mainstay Luke’s Anger starts it off hyped with “Chronicles Of Funktronica”, with 8-bit squeals and guttery ejaculations (stop giggling) to hit you right in the solar plexus. Continuing with the 8bit trills, there’s the butcher-block beats on “Go Bananas”, from Bruce Stallion. Get smacked with the bowel-emptying wobbles you’d expect from the guy whose last EP featured tracks titled “Drugs = Bad” and “Sunglasses”. Now we’re Frenching a bit, as TB6’s BlattCouture delivers a take on fellow countrymen dDamage’s “JB Savage”, from the latter group’s EP 100% Hate. The pummel of the original is still there, but now you can jump to it (essential for a summer night groove). Baseck finishes things up handily with a track to shout about (literally, he’s screaming himself horse), the vocal mix of “Unbalanced”. You ever eat a bunch of candy and stay up all night playing videogames? Baseck did, and then hooked an IV up to a mixer. Check the blood sugar.

Cex’s latest collection of tracks, the recently-released TINY CREATURE, made public the horrifying revelation that in the relatively low profile period since the last time this OG laptop prodigy flew around the world mass-molesting unsuspecting punters with his notoriously flamboyant rhythm demonstrations, a startling amount of austere beauty has been incorporated into his palette. Tigerbeat6 is proud now to announce that “Secret Monog”, the dirty red jewel in the crown of this aggressively impressionistic & decidedly anti-fashion approach to funky synth+drum machine, is TINY CREATURE’s second single. The SECRET MONOG EP features a narcotic video for this emotional banger by the prolific Baltimore visuals wizard Mark Brown which will allow you to visit the bottom of a k-hole in full scuba gear without any additional chemicals. In addition, you will find nine summer- centric remixes of songs from TINY CREATURE by nine of the finest professionals working in the field of beat deconstruction today. From Berlin, techno capital of our solar system, we welcome Positive Self, Voltek, & Duran Duran Duran. And from the fringes of the beleagured American empire come Producer Snafu, Schwarz, and Joe Lentini. This exclusive cadre of machine music maestros, handpicked by Kid606 & Cex, skillfully reconfigure TINY CREATURE’s complex and asymmetrical synth riffs into a prismatic array of dazzling, hyperactive trunkrattlers. “But doctor, I am the zany beat-mangler, Kid606!” To borrow from the classic joke, the tears of a prankster beatsmith are often hidden. Not so with Outside, where the surprising snare splatters and energetic disco samples are replaced by two disarmingly raw songs. The products of a scrapped album between 606 main-man Miguel De Pedro and drummer Ryan Chittick, “Outside” and “Holiday” wouldn’t sound out of place coming from Nick Cave on a special early-morning bender. The voice of doubt here is assigned to the smoky and mysterious Jesse Quattro, who spins “we know it’s hard to go outside” into a reassuring mantra – yeah, everyone goes through this. Beyond Jesse Quattro and Ryan Chittick, Outside is also a chance for 606’s friends to shine with the masters, with an impressive seven remixes, including one from De Pedro himself. Hecq delivers a steroidal beatdown to the emaciated nerd who originally asked for a holiday, while Portland’s favorite ambient Dub artist Strategy and Barcelona’s Cardopusher provide their own unique moody take. Outside gets some proper wobble rinses from DJ Rupture & Matt Shadetek, aXXo and BADXMAN. And so, Outside is yet another side of Kid606, the ambient-drillnbass- samplecore-jumpup-noise artist, reaching new heights of honesty through the support of collaborators. “Hey doc, how about more of that Xanax?” Kid606 aka Miguel De Pedro is the founder of Tigerbeat6. ¡Ándale! Vol. 3 kicks off with a newcomer to the Tigerbeat6 family, Vaetxk a.k.a. Rob Clouth, and his stellar offkilter Glitch IDM masterpiece “List of Lists”, with its binaural sound design and beats that refuse to stick to any time signature we know you will be thirsting for more. Obi Blanche is best known for his work with Finland’s New Judas label as well as remixes for Boy 8 Bit, Les Gillettes, Zombie Nation, The Raveonettes, and his sweaty electro DJ sets in clubs across europe. We are quite pleased to present his more experimental and wildside with “Doorombroom”, also on his upcoming “The Lost Tapes” album on Tigerbeat6. Joe Lentini appears courtesy of Miami’s one and only Schematic Records family. He is one of the brightest lights in America’s new crop of underground and challenging electronic music producers, and we are sure he will move onto bigger things with his cut and paste spastic funky club crossover tracks. Duran Duran Duran gave us this killer hard-to-find Otto Van Schirach remix of “Bass Galactica 8” from his vaults and it definitely deserves to be heard again and again and again. Dolby Anol finish things off with the most surprising track they have ever made, “Naboomboo”, featuring UK vocalist Beccakhan. It sounds like The Bug jamming with Modeselektor in a middle eastern harem with a demented female MC on the Mic. And we love it. This month’s cover image comes courtesy of visual artist Paul Mares.

Did you ever used to scare yourself to sleep? Here’s betting that Raoul Sinier did. Fitting with the Edward Gorey-esque illustrations of childlike urban macabre that are Raoul’s signature in his line of visual art, the music of “The Melting Man” comes from a dark, exciting, and pervasively innocent place. The City of Lost Children dreams of spiriting away near a warm fire, while the rain from a black thunderstorm slams the harsh tin roof above them. “We Fly” enters dreamland through a sinister dusk that showcases Raoul’s surprisingly calm vocals. Having covered Thom Yorke’s “Cymbal Rush“ on his last solo release, Raoul unleashes a similarly personal and beautiful crescendo, as noisy guitars bully their way through the fragile sing-song refrain into “We Fly part 2”. Following a vocal coda, “All Night” is another nightmare, this time in an electro vein. Finally, the title track quivers out under further washes of distorted organ. Yes, this is The Human League spending the night in a haunted house. Raoul Sinier has previous released music on Ad Noiseam, Planet Mu, Coredump, Sublight, and Teams, with past collaborators including Venetian Snares, μ-Ziq, Hecq, and Vast Aire. “The Melting Man” marks his Tigerbeat6 debut. Rumor has it that the Tigerbeaters slept with the lights on and a Joker-gas grin for a week after receiving the masters.

Yr Fifteen Minutes Are Up
Tigerbeat6

For the past five years, Cardopusher has been an unstoppable producer known well across the global electronic underground for dropping track after track of smart, innovative, unpretentious and fearless dancefloor killers. On his third full-length, Yr Fifteen Minutes Are Up, he pursues a new musical direction, diving headfirst into the murky waters of the international bass scene. Unwilling to be pigeonholed into some kind of dubstep / breakcore / jungle hybrid, Cardopusher showcases his rum-soaked sexy side fearlessly, slows down the BPMs and trades the filth for the funk with an all-new laid-back, tropical sound, less hardcore or sample-based than on his previous albums, but every bit as dynamic and innovative. The album’s thirteen tracks cover a wide range of sounds. Highlights include the 2-step bass-infused “Antisharkz” and “Paintbrush,” the electro-futuristic beat stylings of “Naked in Front of a Broken Computer,” the technicolor ’80s boogie hip-hop cut “We Want Ca$h” (featuring championed abstract MC Sensational), the crunked-out dub-techno of “Holiday” (featuring Kid606 and Jesse Quattro) and the sweaty tropical business of “Yr Fifteen Minutes Are Up,” “Coppertoned Punch” and “Nice Up” (featuring premium toasting from Dub War’s MC Juakali). Yr Fifteen Minutes Are Up closes with big remixes by Lisbon bass operator Mr. Gasparov (Soul Jazz / Steak House) who lures the listener underwater with his hypnotic version of “Juice in Blender,” and San Francisco’s #1 badman Ghosts on Tape (Icee Hot / Wireblock / Numbers), showcasing his own style of old-school jackin’ house with his remix of “Coppertoned Punch.”

Obi Blanche, the man behind the twitching and grinding beats dubbed Hobo-tech by him and his comrades, has come a long way to greet you. From Finland to Berlin this tech-savvy hobo has travelled a winding road to arrive at his current sound. Starting out in his teens producing Hip-Hop beats, Obi progressed through the Mod scene onto IDM and sweaty electro club music as a member of the critically acclaimed New Judas family – all the while playing in several bands like the seminal Ovali Virta and Pets On Prozac. Aside from soundtrack work, DJ gigs and shows across Europe, Obi Blanche has done much loved remixes for The Raveonettes, Boy 8-Bit, Le Corps Mince De Francoise, Kid606, Les Gillettes, Zombie Nation, Norman Palm, KA-SO-RE and Pepe Deluxe. “The Lost Tapes” should have come out years ago, but they didn’t. ¡Ándale! Vol. 2 jumps off in style with “Ing Zorg 2” from Dead Fader, UK’s truly subversive dubstep/noise duo. It’s a blistering remake of “JBE Zorg”, from their now classic “Corrupt My Examiner” album. Berlin’s Positive Self & Miffy give us “Shindig Nation”, a completely original and unique blending of braindance melodics and hard club beats. Tigerbeat6 veteran Kevin Blechdom joins up with occasional collaborator Ad Hawk for “Frankenstein”, a magical mess of mutant general MIDI madness you can both hum along and dance to. Sweden’s Hakan Lidbo steps out of from his usual dance producer persona for blistering chiptune noise rawk with “Lab-rats.” Most surprisingly, we have Ed Flis – more commonly known for his many recordings as Duran Duran Duran – with his first release under his own name, and it’s a massive glitchy techno stomper, as well produced as it is relentless. The cover image (Untitled Biological Landscape No. 2, Acrylic on wood panel, 25 x 25cm, 2008) comes courtesy of stellar visual artist Ryan Hays.
