***CRAWLSPACE marks 30 years of improvised rock music and noisy trips with a new disc that finds the L.A. combo returning to "classic" form after a long period of studio-based experimentation and then an abrupt return to basic R&R on its last two albums. This new one focuses on the band's approach to spontaneous live composition that has long been Crawlspace's dominant musical philosophy. Joining long-time members EDDIE FLOWERS (voice), JOE DEAN (bass), and BOB LEE (drums), guitarist GRADY RUNYAN makes his recorded debut with Crawlspace. Grady has a long musical history that includes playing with the great MONOSHOCK in the '80s/'90s. He plays on most of the tracks here, but also on board are long-time Crawlspace member GREG HAJIC, JONATHAN HALL (THE FREEKS), ALEX GRAY (SUN ARAW), and RICHARD JONES (who plays in the current live version of Crawlspace). Bob is joined on drums and percussion by JOHN COLLINSON for a couple of tracks—here, the band now operates with double drummers for the first time. And just to confuse things, two time-traveling cover songs: the Del-Vetts' '60s garage classic "Last Time Around" with TODD HOMER (ANGRY SAMOANS, MOOSHEART FAITH) on bass, and the 1950s C&W/novelty standard "Hot Rod Race" with '80s/'90s guitarist MARK MCCORMICK. After more than 60 releases over the past three decades, this is a very special album from Crawlspace. Cover photo by JACK BREWER (Saccharine Trust).
