It was only a matter of time before Indianapolis, Indiana's The Gates of Slumber gained recognition as one of the most prominent true doom/heavy metal acts in the country. Spawned in the late '90s, the band emerged in 2004 after several demos with their debut, The Awakening, a breath of fresh air in the metal underground. The album harnessed their influences--Black Sabbath, Pentagram, St. Vitus, Cirith Ungol, Rainbow, Thin Lizzy--as a solid foundation for their sound. Its follow-up, Suffer No Guilt, was hailed as one of the best albums of its kind to come out in 2006.  With The Gates of Slumber securing a North American label for the first time, the much-anticipated Conqueror is the band's first album released domestically--and rightfully so, as it is their most accomplished, tight, and focused to date.
