***There are some musical traditions—ancient ones—that are grounded in the natural soundscape; the everyday sounds of life arranged into patterns, attempts at mimicking the whoosh of wind, the howls of an animal, the crack of thunder, the thump and scrape of a rice mortar. We emerge into the world having been exposed to these sounds, along with the vicissitudes of our mothersʼ heartbeats, and we connect to them as we grow. To the extent that we can train ourselves to remove subjective notions about music, we can find musical potential in virtually every sound. Some prehistoric ancestor slithered out of the ocean and its perceptions of reality were changed forever. ***CHECK STOCK!!! Received a 7.5 rating from Pitchfork. IMPLODES is a Chicago quartet that has coalesced around guitarists MATT JENCIK and KEN CAMDEN in the last few years, with the group settling on their current lineup in 2009. The group has been hunkered down in a secret location, hard at work honing their craft, and occasionally venturing out for for signs of intelligent life in the real world, as well as the increasingly frequent live show. The first pronouncement from the group was a 2009 self-titled cassette, followed by a solo album from guitarist Ken Camden on Kranky entitled Lethargy & Repercussions in early 2010. "Implodes is all kinds of big guitar damage: shoegaze fuzz blasts, sparkly drone, slicks of tuneful sludge, distortion so thick it obscures the keyboards, the vocals, and even the drums."—Chicago Reader
