***Particle City is saturated with a crystal-clear deep peace; tones of vintage organs and lounge-y bass guitar speak to economy and sophistication at the same time. But MODALITY, a kind of psych think-tank (more theoretical and drier, less intoxication-oriented), grows stronger and psychedelic with more aggressive guitar strums and heavier drumming. After the short and droning intro "Walls," the sudden gem "Plaza" sounds like a relaxing Tortoise B-side jam. "Trees" is more immersive and introverted—a short, emotion-filled synthesizer piece, hitting simple, almost primitive notes with drone-y reverb. Distant guitars mingle with vast ambient tapestries: cleansing, calm backdrops for some intense cogitation about fractals, being, and nothingness. Hand-numbered edition of 300.
