***Unearthed original copies of the debut single from the Great Plains power pop group Todd Newman and The Leatherwoods. Recorded in Lawrence, Kansas in 1988 and released in 1989, the two tracks on this single serve as a blissful snapshot of the region’s sound during the “Alternative Rock” era. A-side "To Win You Back” is pure power pop balladry, while the flip, “Downside Of An Eightball”, is a dark comedown acoustic number. Bandmates Todd Newman and Tim O’Reagan eventually relocated to the Twin Cities to continue with their musical pursuits. Newman played in a number of local bands including playing bass for Grant Hart, while Tim O’Reagan scored a long lasting gig as the drummer for the Jayhawks.
