***BACK IN STOCK!!! PEARS laid siege to the punk world with their 2014 debut release Go To Prison and have been on a buzz-generating rampage ever since. Their follow-up album Green Star saw PEARS take their audacious songwriting approach to a whole new level with relentless touring along the way. The forthcoming self-titled third album, Pears is yet another significant step forward for a band that has grown by leaps and bounds on each album. Recorded with CHRIS FOGAL at Black in Bluhm Studio in Denver, Pears is 14 songs and 31 minutes of the band’s signature hardcore: heavy, melodic, blistering, pointed, and surprisingly catchy. While it continues down the path set by Green Star and Go to Prison, Pears finds the band taking a different creative approach. While their former albums were written well in advance; Pears was written on the fly, and the result is 14 tracks with ankle breaking tempo changes, frenetic guitar riffs, and impelling vocals. Elements of prog and grunge intermingle with classic hardcore and hook-laden rock that can happen in the space of one song. From riff-heavy album opener “Killing Me” to “Naptime”—moving from loping pop to group-chant hardcore—to the midtempo pop song “Traveling Time”—PEARS show time again how they are able to expertly mend all these elements into one cohesive, unique, and potent cocktail.

***PEARS laid siege to the punk world with their 2014 debut release Go To Prison and have been on buzz-generating rampage ever since. After spending the better part of two years turning the hardcore scene on its ear, PEARS continue along the warpath with their anticipated follow up full-length Green Star. The antithesis of a sophomore slump, Green Star sees PEARS take their audacious songwriting approach to a whole new level. The shit’s crazy. Songs tear in and out of furious hardcore and melodic punk, with ankle breaking tempo changes, frenetic guitar riffs, and impelling vocals. Where PEARS really excel is in mixing all these elements into one cohesive, unique, and potent cocktail. Green Star displays this ability from start to finish, with plenty of nods (some more overt than others) to an array of influences along the way and an indescribable energy throughout. ***Go To Prison is the debut release from New Orleans hardcore upstarts PEARS. Since its limited release in 2014, Go To Prison has taken the punk scene by the balls and refused to let go. Needless to say, we at Fat Wreck Chords are huge fans and after a few overtures we successfully convinced PEARS to let us rerelease this monumental album. Go To Prison twitches back and forth between genuine old-school hardcore and extremely melodic choruses without ever missing a beat. PEARS throw a little New Orleans voodoo juju on the sometimes tedious and wearied hardcore genre to create a unique and fresh sound that truly belongs to them. These guys are absolute maniacs and it comes across in the unrelenting intensity of their music and live shows. Like most things that emanate from the French Quarter, this shit’s potent. Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
