***There is an audible joy and innocence to the sound of PRAIRIE CAT that is quite refreshing amidst the cynical indie rock of its peers. This collection of songs has almost managed to capture the very sound of summer days and hot August nights with a gift for melody that is practically splayed out on the hood of a sonic Camaro here (top down). CARY PRATT (aka Prairie Cat) is the incredibly gifted musician behind this infectious pop offering which plays host to some deceptively complex and masterful arrangements. "Got Nothin'" exhibits an unapologetic and unabashed musicality. The sophisticated yet whimsical Rhodes and piano work reminds one of a pop version of Allen Toussaint. In contrast to the records brightness, the drums and pianos were recorded after hours in an historic, haunted downtown Vancouver theatre. While listening closely to the empty theatre’s natural acoustics, one can clearly hear whispers of captured EVP (Electronic-Voice Phenomenon).
