***Scream formed in 1979. Drummer Kent Stacks, bassist Skeeter Enoch Thompson and the brothers Pete and Franz Stahl attended school together in Bailey’s Crossroads, Virginia, when they began to discover the punk and new wave scene in DC and the provocative power of making music. Like most of the punk bands in DC, they were influenced by the Bad Brains, but their rock and roll sensibilities set them apart. In 1982, they went into Inner Ear Studio with Ian MacKaye and Eddie Janney to record Dischord's first full length album, Still Screaming. Scream followed this with a second full length album, This Side Up, in 1984. The band toured throughout the US and were one of the first US hardcore bands to tour Europe and the UK. In 1987, they released Banging the Drum, which was recorded at both Southern Studios in London and Inner Ear. In 1988, No More Censorship was released on reggae label RAS records. Scream returned to Dischord to release Fumble in 1993. They made a few line-up changes along the way, including the addition of their friend Harley Davidson on second guitar, and, when Kent Stacks left the band to start a family, they asked a young local drummer, Dave Grohl, to take over. ***Fumble is the fifth and final full-length by Washington, DC’s SCREAM. It features nine songs recorded in December of 1989 by ELI JANNEY at Inner Ear Studios. Formed in Bailey’s Crossroads, Virginia in 1981 by brothers PETER and FRANZ STAHL, bassist SKEETER THOMPSON and drummer KENT STAX, Scream released four albums on Dischord Records. DAVE GROHL, a punk kid who grew up in nearby Springfield, VA, replaced Stax on the drums in 1986. Fumble was the second Scream record to feature Grohl—the first was No More Censorship, which was released on RAS Records—and it includes his sole lead vocal for the band, “Gods Look Down.” Though Fumble was recorded in 1989, the tapes spent a few years on the shelf as Scream split up while on tour the following year. It was only in 1993—once Pete and Franz had formed WOOL and Grohl had joined NIRVANA—that the record was finally mixed and released. Long out of print, this reissue has been remastered by TJ LIPPLE. The instrumental “Crackman” has been left off of this version to allow for higher sound quality, but will be included as part of the digital download. This version has been pressed on clear vinyl. ***REISSUED ON VINYL!!! This Side Up, SCREAM’s second full-length, was recorded during two recording sessions in 1984. The first session was produced by DR. KNOW (BAD BRAINS) and JOEY PEA. The second session was produced by IAN MACKAYE and features the debut of ROBERT “HARLEY” DAVIDSON on second guitar. The album was originally released on LP in 1985 as a split venture between Dischord Records and the Rough Trade imprint, Sixth International Records. Re-cut at Chicago Mastering Service. Pressed on colored vinyl. Includes a download.
