***SORE EROS has a history of balancing tendencies towards both pop songwriting and Western Massachusetts style experimentalism. Both sides of the band are majestically displayed on their newest work, Just Fuzz. The band recorded this mini-album while snowed in at a studio in Vermont during the early months of 2011, venturing out for drunken walks through the snow between takes. From “Buzz Stew” through “Sunset Eyes,” One of the bandʼs strengths is the ability to draw the listener in and suddenly switch ideas completely to something even more enticing. This record is a step forward for Sore Eros, seeing them use new sounds and aural sweetening without losing the raw honesty that made albums like Second Chants and Know Touching so exciting. Sore Eros continues to prove that they sit atop the overstuffed pile of modern psychedelic pop by breaking conventions and crafting songs with care. Band members have played with Ariel Pink, Panda Bear, Kurt Vile, and Gary War, Charlotte Hornets, Class A Comfort, among others. “Beautifully damaged psych-pop…fragile and slightly disorienting”— Gorilla Vs. Bear. Includes a full-color poster.

***With Know Touching, SORE EROS have crafted a record that is simultaneously dense and soothingly melodic, fulfilling the considerable promise of their debut, 2009’s Second Chants. For this record, the band (ROBERT ROBINSON and ADAM LANGELLOTTI) made a conscious departure from its debut, recording the album direct to a 1/2-inch 8 track reel-to-reel without the aid of computers. From this the band emerged with a record that blooms with melody and innocent joy that bring to mind such similarly spaced out artists as Atlas Sound and Kurt Vile. When patched together, this detailed attention to arrangement and dreamy melodic sensibilities combine to make Know Touching an effortlessly beautiful record.
