Good Violence by Subsonics

Subsonics

Good Violence
Slovenly

***After grumbling for 30 years waiting for the first two albums from Atlanta’s SUBSONICS to appear on our preferred long playing format, we delinquents at Slovenly Recordings have taken the matter into our own leathery clutches and proudly present the first ever vinyl versions of Subsonics (1992) and Good Violence (1993). Criminally overlooked due to being CD only releases at the time—anyone who was anyone in those days was still stuck on *records* during the world’s biggest boom of slick digital coasters - these feculent works of pure derelict attitude are a sorely needed reminder of just how fucking COOL the rock still rolled at the dawn of its death, and prove that Subsonics—if you’ve been paying attention—remain consistent in their execution. A Subsonics mention in the same breath as the era’s most revered luminaries is crucial to the garage-rock conversation due to their unique take and attack on the teenbeat tongue, whether they consider themselves to be a component of the scene, or as outsiders making catchy and clever bang-shang-a-lang for their own inside kicks. Either way, our ATL heroes are playing the same stage, and they aren't particularly concerned if you missed the set… that’s our job. Here they are in 2023, exhumed at their most frantic, and they’ve never been more exalted.

Flesh Coloured Paint by Subsonics

Subsonics

Flesh Coloured Paint
Slovenly

***Atlanta’s SUBSONICS are a gutter-glam, minimal rock’n’roll trio. This is their 8th album and it’s called Flesh Colored Paint. Like all their previous works, this is a distilled hodgepodge of decades of popular culture and classic literature culminating in a collection of short and groovy shambolar: Chuck Berry, Albert Camus, AM radio rock jocks, Bo Diddley, Golden Age TV, surrealism, Mad Magazine, kung-fu flicks, Herman Melville, Little Richard, self-negating philosophy, David Johansen, The Bible, Dee Dee Ramone, Lee Van Cleef, Cornell Woolrich, advertising jingles, Dada, Carole King, Bugs Bunny, and Casablanca; the poem, not the film. This is a gorgeous mess of an record, and it’s cool. REAL COOL, KILLER. We hope you’ll find something within to make you think, or at the very least, dance, if it’s too deep. In The Black Spot by Subsonics

Subsonics

In The Black Spot
Slovenly

***At long last, SUBSONICS have descended again upon the denizens of  the steamy rock’n’roll jungle with their first album in five years, In the Black Spot. Subsonics have been called the "Best band in Atlanta" by fellow Georgians Black Lips and for good reason: previous works by this beatnik, noir-punk careen machine have left indelible marks, or black spots if you will, on the psyche of big-bam-boom-shang-a-lang rockers the world over during their nearly two-decade tenure. This new album brings more of singer CLAY REED’s petulant, masculine-feminine vocals and surreal lyricism, shaken up with his signature garroted guitar, BUFFI AGUERO’s inventive, incessantly churning drumming, and ROB DELBUENO’s (MAN? OR ASTROMAN?) rolling basement bass. On this latest spin, previously unwritten, yet eerily familiar, melodies echo in the catacombs of America's soul and ring throughout with a childish enthusiasm, like a funky delinquent's budget bubblegum album. What we really have here is an obsessive, detached drop-in to an after-hours opium den, where Super-8 movies are projected onto a soiled sheet, and the soundtrack is undeniably Subsonics.

***The sixth charging album from Atlanta rockers the SUBSONICS. Thirteen tracks of amphetamine-fueled smash-up, delivered with epileptic guitars, primitive drums, and driving bass (courtesy of former MAN OR ASTROMAN? member ROB DEL BUENO).
