Tenebrous Liar developed as the result of a musical urge felt by photographer Steve Gullick in 2005, much frantic sound bending & home recording resulted in an album released by Fire records the following year. It quickly became apparent that Gullick needed a band in order to perform live, he enlisted the help of an eclectic & ever evolving line-up of friends who made a further five albums in as many years and played shows with a very diverse selection of artists including Scout Niblett, Josh T. Pearson, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Foo Fighters, Duke Garwood, Oxbow, Soulsavers, Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Ed Harcourt & Cindytalk. In 2016 Tenebrous Liar (Brendan Casey on bass, Ben Edgar on drums & Steve Gullick on guitar & vocals) set about writing and recording their new album in Coventry rehearsal rooms and in Gullick’s home, the idea was to record improvisations to create a freer sounding record, the band channeled psychedelic era Miles Davis, early PiL and their love for Neil Young's Dead Man to create The Cut.
