Smoke & Fiction by X

X

Smoke & Fiction
Fat Possum

***Being great is one thing, but staying great for a long time is another. X has been great for forty-seven years, building their legend as one of America's most original punk bands with seven albums between 1980 and 1993. This summer, their final album, Smoke & Fiction, will be released alongside multiple national tours. Like Alphabetland (2020), Smoke & Fiction has the fury and fun expected from X. It's a valedictory lap with tracks like "Big Black X" reflecting back on their journey. Housed in die-cut jackets with inserts (white for standard black vinyl, blue for the blue vinyl edition).

***BACK IN STOCK!!! Pioneering Los Angeles punk legends X return with their first new studio album in 27 years and the first with the original line-up in the past 35 years. The songs on Alphabetland were written in the 18 months leading up to release, except for "Delta 88 Nightmare" which dates back to the late 1970s (a demo track of it was previously released on the 1997 anthology Beyond and Back: The X Anthology and the 2001 reissue of Los Angeles), and "Cyrano De Berger's Back", which bassist John Doe wrote in the late seventies, and which was originally released by The Flesh Eaters on their 1981 album A Minute to Pray, a Second to Die. Additionally, “I Gotta Fever” is a re-write of the 1981 song “Heater.” "Cyrano" was also recorded by X on the first post-Billy Zoom album, See How We Are but the band members were always unhappy with the recording and preferred this version with Zoom's saxophone. Black vinyl pressing.

Delta 88 Nightmare

***BACK IN STOCK!!! Earlier in 2019, the original foursome - Exene Cervenka, John Doe, Billy Zoom, and DJ Bonebrake went into the studio together to record fresh material for the first time since 1985’s “Ain’t Love Grand." Five songs were recorded over the course of two days with producer Rob Schnapf. The first of these new songs is the recorded version of an older X song, "Delta 88 Nightmare," which previously was only included as a bonus track on the 2001 reissue of "Los Angeles" in demo form - never as a fully recorded and mixed track. The song is available today as a 7" with the flip side being the newly recorded "Cyrano de Berger's Back". Pressed on blue vinyl in an edition of 500 copies.
