Groovy Movies

***Groovy Movies is the solo project of Nick Carlisi (Tough Shits, Patsy’s Rats). He took the moniker from a track featured on the great lost Dave Davies (The Kinks) album. Groovy Movies second full length album, Psychedelic Barbershop, gets its title from a phrase that Jimi Hendrix once used to describe The Beach Boys. The follow up to his 2017 self titled debut on Hidden Volume Records, Psychedelic Barbershop was produced by Matt Rendon (The Resonars) at his Midtown Island Studio in Tucson, AZ. The two met years ago when their bands shared a bill at SXSW and struck up a friendship after bonding over a shared love of harmony laden psychedelic pop music. Rendon not only produced, but played drums and sang backup vocals on every track and played additional instruments throughout. Influences worn proudly on sleeves, the resulting album pays homage to a bygone era when vocal harmonies were as important to a tune as jangly guitars and tracks rarely passed the 3 minute mark.
