Surprise Privilege

***Surprise Privilege is a 3-piece San Francisco punk band formed in 2021. Surprise Privilege gained a reputation in the Bay Area for their high-energy, fun spirited DIY shows, playing in various places such as Golden Gate Park, Chinese restaurants, San Francisco landmarks, and most notoriously, on a moving BART train (the Bay Area's heavy-rail public transit system) in 2023 alongside their sister band False Flag.

SPOILER ALERT: this release only contains six songs. However, each song holds more than it's own weight due to sheer quality so if you do some math and mental gymnastics it'll all make sense. "100 Songs" carries Surprise Privilege's typical high-octane punk energy but also a couple of more melodic tunes in "Millipede" and "Mahavira". The music is very danceable, catchy, and fun with Surprise Privilege's signature brand of tongue-in-cheek lyrical subject matter. "100 Songs" is the fourth release from "F.Y.J.F.Y.", a San Francisco label focused on keeping the San Francisco punk scene alive and well. Limited to 200 on black vinyl.

After playing sold out shows throughout the years and a series of successful tours across the US, mostly covering the West Coast, Surprise Privilege took a small hiatus to focus on opening a community-run punk record store located in the Lower Haight of San Francisco with other members of their label. Despite their small break, Surprise Privilege is back and has a lot of plans for the future to uplift and maintain the spirit of San Francisco punk.
