***Rare 1983 album by Dilip Roy, arranger and orchestra leader for virtually all of Ananda Shankar's recordings and very much in keeping with the beat-friendly, sitar-rich sound of those releases. Namaskaar features moody and exotic sitar coupled with electric guitars, synthesizers, flute, vibes, organ, a string section and some strange and wonderful percussion that should make dj's smile. Amazing, ambitious, complex, and trippy, the music blends traditional Indian instrumentation with a bit of Western-styled ambiance. Why has no one heard of this record? Because it was pressed up and sold only on Air India flights as an aural souvenir of their homeland.
