***"Surfacing with little early warning, the new album from Jeffrey Novak heralds a return to the solo psych boogie that broke him out of Cheap Time’s punk sweat n’ swagger. The last few years have seen Novak splitting his time between the glam crunch of Savoy Motel and the funk formations of his new band, Cookie Jar. It’s been more than a decade since he was solo above the marquee, but Blood Celebration feels like a natural next step. The album was born out of a break from Cookie Jar’s electric itch, with Novak looking to bring to life an acoustic-based boogie with an ear towards Hot Tuna. The resulting album grabs hold of the stitching that holds together his various personas and passions—a soul-soaked strummer that’s built to get yer blood pumping but that doesn’t forgo any of the pop trimmings either. The acoustic guitar remains the focal point here, but if you think this is Novak gone folk, get the notion far from your mind. Rolling its instincts through the Bolan-boogie and burnt end blues that fueled prime period Ty Segall and running wild through the American canon, the record picks at Petty and Spence and dips into the stewed songwriting that turned Nashville into a nexus of country, soul, R&B and rock. A few times a specter of spaced Brit-pop pops into the mix as well, with opener 'Lucyville' and 'Jaybird' nipping at territory traced by The Charlatans and The Telescopes. While the last few years have...

***ORNAMENT is a new musical troupe out of Nashville, Tennessee, who have collectively built off traditional forms and values established in pop music for over seven decades before any of its three young members, ALEC, RYA and WILL, were even born. Ornament's sound is the culmination of these three music fanatic freak friends collective distillation of cool. Too many bands today try to cop that misdirected sixties/seventies vibe on a one or two-dimensional level. Ornament might look like another gaggle of dolled up pants boys at first glance, like an indie-rock Milk’N’Cookies, but one listen to their tunes will reveal an astute love of many twentieth century musical genres on full display. Elements of ragtime jazz, calypso, music hall, folk, modern classical, and pop balladry all find their space in Ornament’s arrangement of an avant-garde rock music substitute. Recruiting the services of independent producer, JEFFREY NOVAK (SAVOY MOTEL, CHEAP TIME), Ornament have placed their debut album in an ongoing “New” southern rock context/scene that has been previously promoted by Novak in the press. Limited to 400 black vinyl copies with a jacket featuring colorized versions of all three band members.

***SAVOY MOTEL is still on the case! Founding members, JEFFREY NOVAK (CHEAP TIME) and DILLON WATSON are like Sherlock and Dr. John (Watson), two dedicated fools keeping the high and low ends covered, with creamy electric bass and savory lead guitar. Meeting these dudes in the middle (sonically speaking) are a couple advanced cats (and old friends) from Music City U.S.A., dazzling pianist extraordinaire, CHRISTINA NORWOOD, and wonder boy drummer and percussionist, RYAN DONOHO. Together this new quartet drive that old "Savoy Sound" in a deep southern direction, down Route 45 toward the Mississippi Delta. The new album is, Love Your Face, the band's long awaited follow-up to their 2016 Self-Titled debut on What's Your Rupture? Following their debut, Savoy Motel recorded the aforementioned and now "legendary" Watermelon Fats album. After the band's opening slot on the North American Leg of pop-star Kesha's 2017 Rainbow World Tour, the Watermelon Fats album was scrapped and the original line-up "transitioned." At their former label's suggestion, the band started from scratch to create what would blossom into, Love Your Face, a fresh collection of hook filled ditties and alabaster funk sing-a-longs guaranteed to delight fans of Savoy Motel's earthy sound. Limited to 500 black vinyl copies, with an inner sleeve including additional band photos and all the song lyrics.
