No Cops In Heaven by Split System

Split System

No Cops In Heaven
Static Shock

***After a busy year, Split System returns with their third and final 7” of 2025, ‘No Cops In Heaven / Pull The Trigger’. Recorded live to tape at Soundpark Studios on a Saturday in August 2024, the new 7” features two hefty slices of punk. The idea for ‘No Cops In Heaven’ was sparked during a drive through Burnley in Melbourne, listening to Angel in a Raincoat by The Sleepers while passing highway police. The track expresses a distrust of police, politicians, and media figures, stemming from ongoing inaction and victim-blaming around femicide, along with concerns regarding the growing power and militarization of police forces across Australia.‘Pull The Trigger’ takes aim at war mongers, oil barons, and politicians who benefit from ongoing conflicts and genocide. The song’s narrator finds themself at the end of their tether, ready to take matters into their own hands.

Days of Smoke and Ash by Siyahkal

Siyahkal

Days of Smoke and Ash
Static Shock

***"Finally, SIYAHKAL delivers unto us their complete vision. Days of Smoke and Ash, is the first full length from a band that has been dominating shows in Toronto for the better part of the past decade. The city's best kept secret. And what better a release to formally announce the relocation of the Static Shock Head Honcho, than the excavation of the city's most overdue LP?From the opening notes of 'Your Head In My Arms,' SIYAHKAL unleashes absolute, stomping psychedelic hardcore perversion. Self-recorded, the thing sounds like a demon unleashed. Squalls of noise are smeared across a record of near-meditative, throbbing HC. It's an unrelenting, brutal album that would see any sane person running for the exits. While the music itself is precise, intentional and pounding, the vocal delivery and its lyrical subject matter provide a deeper meaning. This isn't just a record to crack skulls to, it's an album loaded with political subtext. How does an artist reconcile their own exile? How do they engage with the caricatures that western psychosocial dominance makes of their beautiful home? When their own survival is at stake, what is the true meaning of justice? SIYAHKAL manages to produce something indebted as much to the likes of Destino Final or Mobs, as it is the Persian culture KG bleeds into it.And the sentiments expressed here are not just Iranian, or Venezuelan, or Palestinian. SIYAHKAL's Days of Smoke and Ash reflects the reality of the world as this era comes undone. They've manifested something universal...

C'est Deja L'heure by Alvilda

Alvilda

C'est Deja L'heure
Static Shock

***It has been three and a half long years since Parisian four piece Alvilda released the Negatif 7” on Alien Snatch. They have been playing gigs but there has been no sign of recorded material. Now they finally return with their debut album for Static Shock Records and without doubt it’s a stonewall classic. Every minute, every inch and every song is lean, locked in and upbeat with a tight and bright production. If you love 60’s girl pop but with a late 70’s power pop edge or Indie pop that has been raised on a diet of tuneful punk rock, then Alvilda will be your new favourite band, just like Dolly Mixture were, just like Chin Chin were and just like Les Calamités were. The album is just under 30 minutes and it never lets up with quality and tunes that get stuck in your head. Not being able to speak a word of French is not a hindrance, as all the songs are instant and catchy. Alvilda is here to stay, and it's time already.

***Assistert Sjølmord (translation - Assisted Suicide) release their debut 7 track 7” EP, after an outstanding demo in 2021. Thirty seconds in to 'Klimabombe' and we reach maximum velocity and there's no let up. The intensity and feral nature of their sound is laid bare with a sharp production and guitar tone that is both clean and harsh at the same time. The vocals rage and are totally ferocious and are in a smilar vein to Chitose from The Comes. It looks, sounds and feels like a classic Norwegian hardcore single from the 80’s and released on X-Port Plater (home of Svart Framtid, Stengte Dører, Bannlyst etc) mixed with the classic UK82 push and shove proto hardcore sound of The Mau Mau’s. These four Oslo punks take you by the throat and make Norwegian hardcore essential all over again.

Cruel Heart, Cold Summer by Glaas

Glaas

Cruel Heart, Cold Summer
Static Shock

***Less than a year after their debut LP 'Qualm', Berlin's best dressed are back with a new line up and a new EP. I was thinking about the best way to describe this one and then it hit me. Some of you reading this are probably familiar with the feeling that comes in the days after that weekend when you decided to stay up for 48 hours, well that is accurately condensed and presented to you over the course of these four new songs. Paranoia? Check. Feelings of hopelessness? Check. The need to get the hell out of that sunlight? Check. The sudden sound of a saxophone? Check. This has surpassed the lazy post-anarcho punk comparisons. It's streamlined, superior and ready for you to feel both the serotonin overdose and severe lack of, all in the space of ten minutes. The record is limited to 500 copies on beautiful, bold and black vinyl presented in a pocket sleeve and insert with artwork from bassist Raquel Torre.

Eterna Lotta by Lucta

Lucta

Eterna Lotta
Static Shock

***Lucta from Milan finally unleash their debut album ‘Eterna Lotta’ which follows the demo 'Black Magic Punk’ from way back in 2018. The 9 track album takes you by the throat and never lets go. The music rages with a fierce atonal guitar tone and drums that push each track to its limits but it’s the vocals that really make this special. They are passionate and enraged and spat out in Italian. The band mixes the furious years of Italian hardcore from the 80’s, Rudimentary Peni and some classic pogo punk with a sense of paranoia to the overall sound. ‘Eterna Lotta represents the continuous internal and external struggle with life: from social interactions to self expectations and how everyone deals with it in eternal conflict. Lucta is the Latin word for "fight" and Lotta fully embraces every aspect of their lives. The band are outcasts, freaks, queers and punks and will forever fight for rights for those that need a voice and push towards a better future.'

***After last year’s Stump Soup cassette, Powerplant is back with a sharp five tracker. On every release Powerplant mutates, changes and rotates their sound and on this EP it’s no different. The rigid march of drum machines is now more determined and powerful than ever. Grass serves as their fatalist manifesto against burning daylight spending time fruitlessly. Like an intrusive thought or a ghost, the theme of time passing, barges into every song, calling to action. Powerplant, like a converted believer, is here to guide you through. “It gets worse before it gets worse”, says bandleader Theo Zhykharyev, “I waited forever for things to get better and a perfect time to put out these songs, but judging from the trajectory of events - this is as good as it’s going to get.” With the same necessity to get out and make up for lost time, the EP opens its gates with title track “Grass” - a force of nature that charges into a dizzying riff, bridging into a crooning verse with a pompous backing. Powerplant’s catchy sensibilities and affection for intricate song structures is at the forefront with a hint of weirdness that is yet to come. "Broodmother" is like the march of an evil and twisted army with military drums, distorted bass hook and sinister vocals. "Walk Around - Hang My Head" comes over like a mid 80’s 4 track Stranglers demo with a vocal that chops and snarls with an odd twang to it. "3 Medallions" is a...

Infants Under The Bulb by Uranium Club

Uranium Club

Infants Under The Bulb
Static Shock

***The Minneapolis Uranium Club Band, along with Static Shock Records and the newly contracted Anti Fade Records, are proud to present “Infants Under the Bulb”; The Uranium Club’s fourth album and first full length since 2018’s "The Cosmo Cleaners". Precisely timed ahead of the band’s debut tour of Australia commencing March 19, Infants Under the Bulb will light up stores across the globe from March 1st. Recorded in Minneapolis over the course of 2023 by long time collaborator Grant Richardson and just as rampant and agitated as ever, The Uranium Club once again win their dear listeners over with eccentrically wild guitar parts, revolving voices, elastic-tight drums and the addition of their very own Saints-styled horn section. Lyrically, Under the Bulb opens up the history books of unsolved mysteries - unidentified, unsolved, unanswered subjects of suspicious acts or individuals across the last century. Who, what, when and where… but mostly, why? Ignorant humanity of earth orbits the sun once again. The Somerton Man, Bergmann, Bauby, Denton, phone phreakers, and just what is lurking behind the cosmic organ of The Wall? As always, the artwork was handled in-house by the Club and ambitious as ever. The spectacular cover shot captures a carefully coordinated event orchestrated by the Club to photograph a crowd of the local volunteers wearing ponchos standing together in an open field to make the shape of a giant spiral. The spiral pictured is 120 feet (36.5 meters) wide, photographed by drone, and was plotted out on the ground...

***“Victoria’s White Collar, pulses with as much articulation as venom. This first 12” invokes the glory years of American hardcore. That razor-slash ferocity, ya’ll love. The riffs are simple and effective, opting for power over speed and giving new-comer vocalist Loosey C. the chance to showcase what makes her inclusion vital in a group made up of Headcheese, Crosshairs, and Bootlicker alumni. In fact, what sets this 4-piece apart is the focused potency of her vocal aggression and scathing lyrics. If you’re taking notes to make sure the right boxes are checked, imagine your master prosciutto-shaving the best bits from No Thanks and Evil I and feeding them to your grateful, blushing little face. If you’re looking for what makes this record as ferocious as it is, clock the poisoned lyrics calling out all the parts of identity politics, sexism, and embarrassing punk posturing that are overdue for a reckoning. White Collar won’t be trained, and this bitch ain’t just mouthy; she bites.”—J. Nickel Pressed on clear orange vinyl. Includes an insert.

***The Hazmats (featuring members of Powerplant, Big Cheese and Chain Of Flowers) return a year down the line with another two track 7” that is another masterclass in Indie pop in 2023. Skewed View is built on an insistent treble heavy jangle guitar and mournful vocals and could easily have been a Sarah Records release. Think a mix of the Field Mice, Sea Urchins and the Mighty Lemon Drops. On the flip is Wondered which is a more uptempo and forceful song that will have you hooked from the first guitar riff. It has the same edge, production and hooks of early The Wedding Present and This Poison!. Two quality 45’s and you wonder what will be next. Pressed on white vinyl.

***Five years on since their debut 12" EP, Sydney's NEGATIVE GEARS finally return with their first full length 'Moraliser'. Taking cues from heavyweights like Crisis, Units, Siekiera, and Rikk Agnew era Adolescents with underground Australian punk sensibilities. Written, self-recorded and mixed by the band over the last five years in their shared studio in Marrickville, Sydney, the band took their time until everything was perfect and it shows with super-tight playing and songs that will be stuck in your head for days regardless of the downbeat subject matter: "A lot of the record is about gross things that exist in this city, gross attitudes, selfishness, obsession with wealth and status, ignorance for anything outside of Sydney. It’s an abhorrently un-altruistic place. This shit hole wants to be America and it brings the worst out in people but also the best, the underground communities are stronger and tighter because the divide between the two is so vast." That's not to say that there is no self-awareness flowing through. The record is called Moraliser after all and sometimes it's easy to think you have all the answers before realising that you really don't. Moraliser is calculated commentary, cutting observations with a magnifying glass, filled with reflection and evisceration in equal parts. A record from the city about the current cultural zeitgeist, for those who hate both. Finally finished last year and mastered by Mikey Young (Total Control, ECSR).

Pestilent Planet by Clock Of Time

Clock Of Time

Pestilent Planet
Static Shock

***"Pestilent Planet is the debut 7 track album from Berlin’s Clock of Time and it’s released a mere 8 months after they played their first gig. The band comes fully formed and up to speed but that is not surprising considering some of the members other projects such as Diat, Vexx and Useless Eaters. Pestilent Planet is a stunning statement of intent. The sound is a driving mix of post punk like Jeopardy era The Sound, and that classic 80’s death rock that Vexx and Arch Criminals perfected. It’s instant and urgent especially tracks like 'Rotten Master' which has a fuller Joy Division esque vibe especially in the skeletal guitar hook. It will be love on first listen." Hot And Flustered by Cold Meat

Cold Meat

Hot And Flustered
Static Shock

***Well, after a slew of 7” offerings, Perth’s COLD MEAT have finally hit us with a full length record. Much like their last few releases they’ve taken an amped up approach to '70s PUNK but this time round they offer ever so slightly more diversity. Ten tracks clocking in at just over 23 minutes and cut at 45rpm for maximum volume. Get hot and flustered.   “Agh! A fresh chop from the large dusty burning murder island: Cold is the Meat to beat. Perth’s finest flesh purveyors have upped their naughty game here across ten tracks of gleefully haughty punk. Hot and Flustered is somehow at once extremely camp and deadly serious. Ashley’s vengeful, elastic rasp smears menses down the screwfaces of vacuous tastemakers, climate change deniers, perennial street perverts, and of course, ZZ top fans. There’s some surprisingly poignant forays into melody (Beach Photography) and a good grip of sudden tempo fuckery to keep us well and truly hooked. Their signature chubby and defiant riffs under snarky bouncing toms formula extends well to the album form, creating a timely reminder that hate and fear are more than reasonable responses to our hell predicament. Let’s take comfort in collective ridicule. When it’s too hot to pogo because the sky is on fire, Cold Meat will let us writhe around in the dirt like the little piggies we are.” (Bryony Beynon)

Obviously indebted to the wild sounds of the likes of Wretched, Impact and Blue Vomit but put together with its own distinctive grasping energy, a manic pile-on of cascading riffs, rifling drums, weird melodic trills needling through, barely held together, bursting with uncomfortable spite. Eleven frenetic punk tunes that writhe with mad-eyed fury, twisting livewire hardcore that sears into you, sneering on and roaring forward, fucked off, packed with bounce and sting.

***NOW AVAILABLE!!! The first album by MINIMA, a new band comprising of members of NO, UNA BESTIA INCONTROLABLE, SNOR and BARCELONA is full of the kind of choice punk you'd expect of such a pedigree: jabbing riffs thrumming out, buzzed up with an insistent pull, clipped clattering beats pinning it down, vocals delivered with a potent snarl, accusatory and savage. From fizzing pogo of 'Adolescente,' to 'Cicatriz's threatening hum, the whole album strikes a sharp balance between the big-riffing hardcore of someone like Glue or Nekra, and the Catalan / Spanish primitive-punk lineage that runs from Qloaqa Letal to dirt-raw rippers Pinen.

Seven tracks of tightly wound post punk from a group of individuals that give you the feeling that they're looking at the glass not so much half empty, but long since spilt and with no replacement on the horizon. The type of anguish that makes you either want to scratch your head at the state of the world, or take a full on somersault onto a razor blade, being held up by an anonymous hand from your home country, much like the mateyboy on the front cover.
