Good Clean Fun by Real Losers

Real Losers

Good Clean Fun
Total Punk

***Way back in the early 2000s Real Losers were right at the top of the heap of best punk bands going on this planet. In fact the 'Go Nutzoid' and 'Don't Leave Me Now' 7"s were amongst the first I distributed. When I started Total Punk I was sad to have missed my opportunity to work with The Real Losers because they were the archetype of what a Total Punk band should be. Well come to find out the 'Go Nutzoid' and "Don't Leave Me Now' 7"s were originally recorded a long with a bunch more tracks with the intention of being their second LP. However at the time a bunch of offers were coming in so those recordings were split up over a series of 7"s and comp tracks with some never seeing the light of day (it's tough being popular). Last year the band found the original tapes and the songs were remixed and slid into my inbox. These sessions find the band at the peak of their game. The perfect combo of Stooges riffage and budget slop now with the addition of some serious pop hooks. Twenty years late to the game but I am happy to announce that REAL LOSERS—Good Clean Fun will finally be released as the band intended and TOTAL PUNK finally gets to put out a Real Losers record. LONG LIVE THE LOSERS!!! Trashed, smashed, and 100% TOTAL PUNK!!!!

***Prepare to enter the world of glam and glitz as you take a walk down the redd karpet with The Celebrities. An international collaboration between Joe Sussman (Nancy, Dangus Tarkus,Muff Divers) and Kel Mason (Gee Tee) with a cameo by Ishka Edmeades (Tee Vee Repairman, Satanic Togas, Set Top Box...) on "Crackin Under Pressure". I hope this is the last time I ever have to say 'covid project' in my life, but this one's a winner. The snot of early Red Cross, hooks like The Dickies, and pure pop sensibility of 60's bubble gum. A not stop hit factory from top to bottom. Clocking in at 12 minutes this is a multiple flipper for sure. Loud, proud, and standing out in the crowd. 100% Total Punk!!!

***Cherry Cheeks are back with the follow up to their highly praised debut LP. Now a full band based out of Portland, OR with a few successful tours under their belt and a strongly defined sound CCLPII picks up where last year's Cherry Radio EP left off. The songs are more fleshed out, the production crisper, and the hooks are gigantic with layers of synths and electronic bleeps and blurps peppered throughout. The manic energy is still front and center but the poppier elements hinted at with songs like 'Go Outside' and 'Two Bugs' on their debut are given much greater focus on the album's hit heavy A-side. On the flip the album takes a darker and more sinister turn. The synths are more heavily featured the vocals have more bite and the punk muscle fully flexed. Cherry Cheeks prove they've got some staying power and I'm excited to see what they have in store for CCLPIII. Catchy, razor sharp, and 100% TOTAL PUNK!

Live On Cool Street
Total Punk

***After countless hours of data driven market research it was determined that the wild success of the first Retail Simps album , “Reverberant Scratch” was 82.6% due to the cheeky and iconic album cover, as such the group was faced with a dilemma. Using focus groups funded by the Center for Odd Human Behaviour (COHB), the group surmised that the man pictured on said cover, none other than Montreal born chanteur Joe Chamandi, reminded the typical unsophisticated commoner of their ner’e do well uncle, and it is this sense of uncanny familiarity that drove people to purchase the record. Upon first needle drop it was revealed to house an abhorrent and obfuscatingly decrepit take on roots rock. Armed with this keen analytical knowledge, the band and their creative team harnessed the boundless marketability of the Trashmen, Dancing Cigarettes and 2 Live Crew to adorn their new disc with an equally palatable and deceptive frontal armour, provoking the straight laced garage rocker of yore to pay the price of entry. Once the branding and visual identity of this little package invited potential listeners in, they were met with incorrigible confusion. You see, after being pigeonholed by the punk paparazzi as a lowly party band, the Simps were tasked with driving home their knack for fervent versatility. This new record captures a group, in the clutches of maturity, boasting their emotional depth, triumphant chops and humble servitude to the trade of rock n roll clowning. Recalling the double speak of VU’s murder...

***"Erupting onto the New York punk scene, Brooklyn based band Pyrex have made waves after releasing a handful of well-received singles and tapes and touring the US generating significant buzz. At long last, the group is releasing their highly anticipated debut LP PYREX. The LP delivers driving, scrappy hardcore-leaning post-punk that sounds like a mix between a lost KBD artifact and an Eastern European post-punk unknown. This LP explores dystopic and nihilistic themes both lyrically and musically packaged in no-brainer high energy punk. Pyrex delivers distorted, angular and heavily entwined bass and guitar hooks strengthened by linear, pummeling drums with raw, aggressive vocals. The trio have created an LP that is equally unchained and artful. PYREX is a wholly well-crafted, frenetic, dialed-in, oven-safe, microwavable, and collectable modern punk record with infinite playability"—Sims Hardin (STREET DATE - 5/05/2023)

IV: Counter Electrode Iron Mono
Total Punk

I never thought I would see the day when TOTAL PUNK would release a 2xLP, but you'll do crazy things for love. HEAVY METAL's 2019 magnus opus up until this point has only been released as a cassette but that is all about to change. 60+ minutes of HEAVY METAL spread over four sides and housed in a gatefold jacket. This is by far Total Punk's most lavish project but as worshippers at the alter of all things HEAVY METAL we are more than happy to fork over the dough.

Much loved, relentless rocker, Jake Robertson is back yet again with the next instalment of his ridiculously productive solo project, Alien Nosejob. Jake’s got a brand-new bag of tricks and I ain’t gonna beat around the bush; it sounds like AC/DC! Stained Glass may be his finest and most stylistically suited work to date. Ironically, and to quote his own sarcastic lyrics from the album’s second track, he definitely fits this shoe. Not only does Jake have the high-pitched pipes while many others don’t (obviously a vital part in this sound), but the guitar chops to pull off the sweet, sustained lead breaks of this particular style. And he does so in great fashion as you’ll be made immediately aware from the scorching solo on album opener, “Beatles vs, Stones”. Trust Jake to write a song with that title! But alas! it’s not all Bon Scott’s and Angus Young’s. Some Rikk Agnew guitar lines shine through on album closer, "Mouldy Dough". "Shuffle Boogie" marks Jake’s first ever stab at the shuffle backbeat - which he says is him knicking from Rose Tattoo what they knicked from AC/DC - but it also kinda sounds like a sped up Jean Genie or some lost Bowie boog. "RNR Rubbish Bin" stomps its way through five minutes of electrified solo’s and witty lyrics. Even Brian Johnston makes an appearance on the Ausmuteants sequel, “Coastal Living 2”; about growing up on the NSW Central Coast. The bulk (backing tracks) of Stained Glass were recorded by...

Curleys are not a hardcore band and they’ve asked that you stop sending them fan mail telling them which obscure early '80s hardcore band they remind you of. Heaven Is No Fun by Sick Thoughts

Sick Thoughts

Heaven Is No Fun
Total Punk

By 2016 a teenage Drew Owen had put himself on everyone's radar releasing a whopping 19 records (and that was just under the SICK THOUGHTS moniker) on pretty much every punk label that mattered over a span of three years. At the time I thought of him as a teenage novelty, an endearing sometimes pesky younger punk sibling who I kept telling "NO YOU PUT OUT WAY TOO MUCH STUFF." However in 2016 Drew sent me what became the "18 & Free" single and had me eating my words, eagerly releasing a single for the kid I kept telling never. Now its 2022 and Sick Thoughts are back on TOTAL PUNK with a brand new LP. Drew has proven himself far more than a novelty and here I am eagerly footing the bill again. The shitty attitude is still intact and the songs are still about breaking stuff but the ramshackle production and rough edged tunes of early Sick Thoughts are gone. 13 scorching riff heavy tracks that run the gambit from Stiv fueled Power Pop to ‘Cherie Love Affair’ style Sleaze Rock all masterfully recorded by Drew and Michael Hohan with Drew playing all the instruments. Great music for licking knives or lighting your wallet on fire. Nasty, catchy as fuck, and 100% TOTAL PUNK!!!

Reverberant Scratch: 9 Shots In Tha Dark
Total Punk

***What if the Velvet Underground had written ‘Wooly Bully’ and Sam The Sham ‘Sister Ray?' If Ron House picked up some bongos and joined CCR or If Half Japanese and Hasil Adkins started a Meters cover band? This is the scrap yard of the Retail Simp's mind. Gang activity started when moldy Joe (Celluloid Lunch, Itchy Self...) enlisted fellow rhythm bro, Tom tha Moleanderthal (Feeling figures, Hélène Barbier band...) to make a perfect record in the Ides of corona March. A million Doll hairs and several rock bottoms later, the idea was to make something that would easily fall apart, this was executed with Montreal's best and brightest in the wings, lending a foot (all in the name of bogtime[sic] exposure). Bathroom-stall-wart and Barstool-smart Chrispy Burns (Terminal Sunglasses, American Devices…) was brought in to add his patented 'racket roll' guit-o-rama. James "Gogo" Goddard (SkinTone, Egyptian Cotton Arkestra...) skronked his reliable sax machine and the ticket was printed. Short on practice and high on ideas, thee Retail Simple Tones were born, well traveled and unraveled individuals, bound by a musical adventure. Now to show for it, Reverberant Scratch is a 9 track ruckus of tinny guitar sketching, horn-honking deliberations, keyboardarific doodles, and whatever else one can summon in a basement to bang on. It's a ramshackle party stabber. Loose, loud, and 100% TOTAL PUNK!!!

It's always nice to put out something from your hometown. It's even better when that something is this good. CHERRY CHEEKS is the work of fellow Orlando resident (recently relocated to Portland) Kyle Harms. Started in early 2020, Cherry Cheeks was born out of countless hours stuck in front of a computer screen with a raging pandemic outside. Kyle put his boredom, boiling over anger, and frustration to work and started a new project. He put out a few bandcamp EPS and limited run tapes that a mutual friend back home turned me onto. He also informed me that there was even better stuff that hadn't yet been released. I hit Kyle up, he sent me a few tracks, and boy was my friend right. EGG PUNK, DEVO-CORE, QUARANTINE PUNK.. whatever the kids are calling it these days this is 12 tracks of bass driven, pop stained, punk agitation. I'm very proud of this record and am ecstatic to say it is indeed 100% TOTAL PUNK!!!!

Following the release of ‘LP’ on Feel It (US) and Drunken Sailor (EU/UK) earlier this year, Smirk is back with a brand new 12” EP on Total Punk. While ‘LP’ compiled Smirk’s two limited run cassettes, ‘EP’ is seven fresh tracks of wiry well-crafted punk with heaps of hooks. Sharp guitars and anxious one note leads adding tension to the locked in propulsive groove of the bass and drums. Nic Vicario, doing his best ‘man on wire’ routine, exudes cool confidence while poking at the anxieties of modern life. V: Live At The Gas Station Fighting The Devil
Total Punk

***German punk provocateurs Heavy Metal are back with a brand new LP and first for Total Punk. Over the last four years Heavy Metal has put out four absolutely essential albums and we are proud as pudding to have them back on the TOTAL PUNK train. Heavy Metal isn't a heavy metal band, Live at the Gas Station isn't a live album (they refuse to even play live), and opener Motorhead has nothing to do with Lemmy or his mole. Such is the audacious and absurd world of Heavy Metal. Leading off with the reverb blanketed JAMC vibing 'Motorhead.' For a band that embraces putting their filthy lint covered stamp on any and all musical genres the soft dreamy touches of the album opener leaves us asking "Has Heavy Metal cut it's hair?" Before you have time to answer, the boys fill the tank, drop the clutch, and kick into the HUBBLIN BUBBLIN 'Motorbike' and rarely let up for the remainder of the LP. Occasionally wandering into the weird and warbled on tracks like 'No Air', 'I Am Something', and the hypnotic lurch of 'Centipede Venom.' However 'V:Live at the Gas Station Fighting the Devil' spends most of its time daring us to herk, jerk, spazz out, and let loose. Party music for party mutants. 100% TOTAL PUNK.

Total Punk

Total Punk is keeping things in Atlanta for a little longer. Following up GG KING's- Remain Intact with the new album from PREDATOR- 'Spiral Unfolds.' The two bands share members including Ryan Bell who masterfully recorded both albums. Atlanta has the best punk scenes going and Predator are its longest running practitioners. Despite the seven years since Predator's last full length 'Complete Earth' and vocalist Brannon Greene splitting time between Predator and his other projects Hospice and Nag (both of which just dropped new albums) 'Spiral Unfolds' shows the band at its strongest. The lead work is minimal but razor sharp and extremely effective. Brannon talk/sings the vocals but the hooks are so large that the understated approach lends them more assurance. PREDATOR are kings of efficiency. Stating as much with what is there as what isn't. Dark, biting, and 100% TOTAL PUNK.

Remain Intact
Total Punk

"To call ‘Remain Intact’ the work of an auteur might not be the proper usage of the term, but I can think of nothing else to call a piece of art expressing a singular vision with such perfection. GG King is a band first and foremost, but this LP is Greg King’s mind cracked open like a melon for all of us to peer into, from the music, to the lyrics, to the carefully constructed artwork. He’s assembled a crack unit of ATL’s finest players to help him articulate this vision, and under the peerless guidance of Ryan (Dinosaur) Bell they have created a record that will appeal to any rocker with a soul, heart and/or mind. Heshers, punkers, hardcores, powerpoppers, garage turkeys, everyone is welcome and should find something to love here. 13 tracks clocking in at around some of the most rewarding 40 minutes of music you’re going to listen to this year, with a companion cassette filled with bonus material that most bands would be releasing as their masterpiece LP.   It’s difficult to find a punk record invested with any sort of real personality or emotional heft these days, but King somehow does just that without sacrificing any rock’n’roll power. The title track is slice of upbeat power-pop with a hard punk edge and a King-sized hook. “God’s Chalk” makes me stumble for a description, and instead just blurt out punk-death-rock-metal like some kind of boob. “Golden Horde Rising” is straight garage thrash. Heavy stuff....

I picture them slugging it out in some swampy, concrete basement as their make-up runs and a Stacia look-a-like gyrates around in a scuba suit. This is probably due to “Killin’ It” and “Drugs in Space”, two tracks that make a valiant effort to float up and meet Dik Mik in heaven but are too weighed down by a bellyful of tranquilizers. Strangely though, the band does not come off like space-aged cavemen on longer tracks like “Jet Set” and “Get A Hold To It” and instead resemble the sludgier bits on The Dicks’ Kill From The Heart."- Tony Rettman"This is an excitingly cloudy tonic of...

I'm beyond happy that The Archaeas are in this final class. Hailing from Louisville, KY THE ARCHAEAS have quitely been amassing their legion of followers with an absolutely jaw dropping live show. I've put out a lot of singles in these last eight years, and this is one that will sit at the front of the pack. Recorded by fellow Total Punk GINO BAMBINO, these two songs come just about as close as you can to capturing them live. Raw, loud, and filled with hooks. The Archaeas write the kind of songs you only have to hear once before you know them. This is their first vinyl release but I have no doubt we'll be hearing from them for a long time. The other two songs they recorded with these two are just as good and if I weren't getting out of the singles game I'd be begging to put them out as well. ***New York’s FOSTER CARE is back with a brand new LP for Total Punk, and the first since adding ALLISON BUSCH (AWESOME COLORS, CALL OF THE WILD) on drums. El Abuso finds Foster Care at their most realized. It’s tight wound, ferocious, dark and dare I say smart. Has Foster Care grown up? Have they left their foster parents for the half way house? An 11-song nineteen-minute punk maelstrom. This isn't a collection of songs it's a heaving beast. An absolutely relentless wall of pounding drums, vicious guitar, and gnarly bass rumble with Chris Teenager biting the air above it all. They even finds some moments to get weird and reflective between the throbbing outburst and violent spasms. Mean, loud, and 100% TOTAL PUNK!

Selling Sucking Blackmail Bribes

***"CIVIC are fresh meat, one of those rare bands that formed perfectly whole and with true urgency. They gathered momentum immediately, playing every week at a different pub or house party across Australia and releasing a 12" and 7" in quick succession on Melbourne's Anti Fade label. Their recordings exhibit song-writing virtuosity that moves from tough glam, power pop and fall down drunk pub rock, a style that the ancients dubbed GUTTER ROCK, and their live show propels the energy of these songs with the precision and discipline of backstreet hardcore. A relentless work ethic has them front and centre in the roster of modern Melbourne's underground hustle, continuing the tradition of Australian rnr outlaws without any retro schtick. CIVIC is the real deal, the new generation of high voltage Australian rock n roll."—Daniel Stewart

Here at Total Punk misanthropy is praised but Musk might have finally unseated ACTION SWINGERS from Total Punk's misanthrope of the month title. ***BRANDY are New York's newest hitmakers featuring members of PAMPERS and RUNNING and released a killer 12" on Monofonus Press last year. This is their second release and it's just as much a brain bludgeon as their first. Following in the knuckle dragging, pavement scraping, blood trails as such acts as Lamps and Mayyors, Brandy lays down a scuzz heavy sonic pummeling over this two track single. ***Cleveland's KNOWSO is another project from the PERVERTS AGAIN/ CRUELSTER camp and it's every bit as sardonic and demented as you've come to expect from these lads. Dark lumbering repetitive punk incantations driven along by tom heavy neanderthalic drums, chant heavy vocals, and shoulder shaking bass grooves. These boys have a penchant for off balance hardcore rumblings and KNOWSO is their newest platform in which to do so. 100% TOTAL PUNK!

***There's Aliens In Our Midst! Transmitting from the same warbley orbit as fellow Californians Twinkeyz, as well as outliers Roxy Music, and Gary Numan's Tubeway Army, ANDY HUMAN AND THE REPTOIDS are back with their first full length in almost four years. In the time between they've teased us with a bunch of killer singles. A succession of short blast preparing the world for their eventual invasion. Here we are in the 2019 and the mothership is descending. Psychic Sidekick is a 10-track transmission of intent. Space is the place and The Reptoids are here to carry us away. 100% TOTAL PUNK!

***HEAVY METAL once proclaimed themselves too sick for Total Punk. Well we must have upped our sick quotient because they handed us this 4 track 7" EP! Following three of the most essential punk albums of the last few years, they are back with this brand new EP and a clear indicator that they have yet to hit cruising altitude. From the Adderal freakout needle jumper 'Underground Agent' to the club thumpin punk bumper 'Schweinebastard' this record is an absolute scorcher. The only thing I love more than heavy metal is HEAVY METAL! Chaotic, spastic, and 100% TOTAL PUNK! Edition of 500 copies.

***After a few years of relative silence Atlanta’s main purveyors of mean and lean punk, PREDATOR, are back on the scene. In the downtime they have managed to further tighten their already razor sharp sound offering their two best tracks yet. Dark, minimal and brooding with buzzsaw guitars and muscled delivery. Predator are almost hypnotic in their simplicity, but still manage a full and powerful sound. 100% TOTAL PUNK! Edition of 500 copies.

***Oakland’s VIOLENCE CREEPS aren’t ones to mince words and on their new single they hit their adversaries square in the throat. Now flanked with a new rhythm section The Creeps haven’t lost any steam. In fact they have plenty to blow because this is them at their angriest. Taking on a certain local mustachioed garage rocker on the A side, and Oakland’s influx of tech bros on the flip you can hear the seething hatred in AMBER's voice. Flanked by the spastic screeching guitar of SHRIMP RIPPER and the busy bouncy bass interplay you’ve come to expect from VC. This is them at their best and I hope the rumors that this is the end of the line are just that. 100% TOTAL PUNK! Edition of 500 copies.

***One of the greatest thrills of running a record label is the opportunity to work with your heroes and it is with a great deal of excitement that I release a brand new COUNTER INTUITS 7" on Total Punk. Ohio is a state known for it's punk legacy and Columbus has a long running and strongly defined sounds of it's own. Lou Reed worship filtered through the Electric Eels. Grating broken down pop songs with melodies simultaneously damaged and confoundingly catchy. One of it's greatest and longest standing practitioners is RON HOUSE (THOMAS JEFFERSON SLAVE APTS., GREAT PLAINS, EGO SUMMIT, et al.). A man who's lyrical abilities and biting edge seem to improve with age (I can only imagine what he'll be producing when he turns 100) and his partnership with fellow Columbus stalwart JARED PHILLIPS (TIMES NEW VIKING) has produced some of the best music of their respective careers, which is I why I'm so happy to be releasing their newest effort. A two song burner with dizzying circular guitar loops, trashy drums, and Ron House's signature nasally snarl. 100% TOTAL PUNK! Edition of 500.

***It's been almost two years since we've heard Mr. Blac. What's he been doing with his downtime? He clearly hasn't been reading his four tracks owners manual, and based upon how long it took us to get this out he also wasn't checking his emails. But low and behold! It's finally here. The A side is a happy little number about being inferior to the flies gathered around a mop bucket that sounds like it very well could have been recorded at the bottom one. On the flip we get a four minute two chord scuzz punisher that's gonna shake those back molars right out of your head. Despondent, spit drenched and 100% TOTAL PUNK!

Friday Night Light
Total Punk

***Lace up your boots and get in line because PERVERTS AGAin are back with brand new marching orders. They brought punk’s most loveable mascot back for an 8-song study on judgemental video store clerks, sex offenders, high school football, and Billy Joel amongst other subjects. Perverts Again continue in the fine tradition of strange mutated Cleveland punk. Trudging, repetitive, sarcastic, and funny without being overly goofy. Dumb in the smartest imaginable way. Self-described as Eminem fronting CRUELSTER (one of their many other bands) and if that’s the case they are the best thing to happen to rap-rock since the Judgement Night Soundtrack and 100% TOTAL PUNK!

***BACK IN STOCK!!!  After a brief hiatus PAULMESSIS is back with a follow up to last year's highly regarded 12" on Total Punk. In case you were wondering if the Crawley native had a change of disposition during his downtime the one two punch of 'Unemployed' b/w 'Anxiety Attack' should put to rest any such ideas. On the new single we find Messis at his most introspective and 'Anxiety Attack' is easily his punkest track to date. Still working within the UKDIY framework of his previous work but with a much more focused attack. I don't wish misery upon anyone but no one makes it sound better than The Suburban Homes. 100% TOTAL PUNK!

***BACK IN PRINT!!! *It’s been almost four years since New York’s FOSTER CARE put out their debut album Bad Vibe City and we’ve been anxiously awaiting a follow up. Well the wait is finally over. Foster Care is back with another banger of an LP and it’s gonna knock you out. In their downtime the guys did more than terrorize the neighborhood bars. They’ve been sharpening their knives and waiting for the right time to pounce. Well apparently that time is now and this record is razor sharp and heading straight for the throat. Every bit as punchy as the first but more dialed in. The hooks are bigger, the guitars are meaner, and CHRIS TEENAGER sounds as vicious as ever. 24 minutes fist pumping, head rattling, negative punk perfection for 2016. 100% TOTAL PUNK! ***From THE CUTS to TIME FLYS, BUZZER, LENZ and now THE WORLD and ANDY HUMAN AND THE REPTOIDS, ANDY JORDAN has had his hands in much of my favorite Bay Area music over the last 17 years. I don't think there is a track I played more DJing last year then "Sarcastic" off of the Reptoids 2016 7" on Goodbye Boozy. So it with much pride that Total Punk gives you two brand new tracks from Andy and his Reps. A bit streamlined (no sax) but still with all the glitter and grease you've come to expect from your reptile rock. Glammy bouncy punk jams from outer spaces biggest hitmaker. They pack a hell of a wallop and are 100% TOTAL PUNK!
