Aidan Baker's Dualism variously explores heavy and ambient drones within a minimalist rock context, layered and looping guitar drones under-pinned by simple bass and drums patterns, combining experimental sounds with a certain post-rock/shoegaze feel. Recorded summer of 2015 at Broken Spine Studios in Berlin, released as a limited edition CD from Germany's Midira Records, and widely available digitally via Broken Spine Productions. Aidan Baker is a Canadian musician and writer who has toured and performed around the world, both solo and with his partner in the “ambient-doom” duo Nadja. A prolific artist, Baker has released numerous albums on such labels as Alien8 Recordings, Important Records, and Drone Records. He is also the author of a several books.

The phrase 'ecliptic plane' refers to the sun's apparent path or orbit around the Earth, as seen from a terrestrial perspective. As such, the music contained on Aidan Baker's Ecliptic Plane explores orbits and perspective, with multi-layered guitar loops slowly evolving and gradually changing through the course of their repetition. All sounds produced by electric guitar, all recorded live to 2-track summer of 2015 at Broken Spine Studios in Berlin, Germany.

Aidan Baker's Stimmt moves (somewhat) away from his typical ambient/drone style, featuring songs which combine noise-rock, psych, shoegaze, and a hint of dub. Angular guitars mix with spacey synths, under-pinned by sludgy bass and clattering drums, in a collection of songs that alternately groove and churn, drift and swirl.

Aidan Baker's The Confessional Tapes is another of his more song-oriented albums, though here drifting between slowcore, dreampop, abstract jazz, and glitchy electronica. Baker originally began working on this record in Toronto several years ago, but lost the audio files in a hard drive crash. Those files which were recoverable from the original recordings, corrupted and glitchy, ended up forming the backbone of the album, providing a fragmentary and abstract structure to the songs as Baker worked on them in his adoptive home of Berlin. Aidan Baker is a Canadian musician and writer who has toured and performed around the world, both solo and with his partner in the “ambient-doom” duo Nadja. A prolific artist, Baker has released numerous albums on such labels as Alien8 Recordings, Important Records, and Drone Records. He is also the author of a several books.

Hand-numbered and limited to 500. A vinyl re-issue of a long out-of-print and hard to get 2007 cd release, Broken & Remade is a strange mix of post-rock, drone, glitch, jazz, and experimental rock. Each track is constructed from 4-8 second samples of analog instruments, looped and layered in such a way as to blur the lines between digital and analog music, constructed and composed, performance and digital manipulation. Comes with digital download card (including 2 extra tracks not included on vinyl)   To quote Aquarius Records' review of the cd version:  “[T]hick slabs of distorted sound turned into stuttering fuzz drenched drones, chopped into staggered sonic pulses over drifting mariachi trumpet. Intense post rock workouts gradually become more and more dense until they are dizzying squalls of skittering drums and tangled guitar melodies. With his newest solo album, enigmatically entitled Closure Axioms, released on the newly-established Polish label The Miskatonic SoundLab, Baker presents nine spatial tracks, gently crafted with an instrument he is undoubtedly best at – solo electric guitar. Only with such an austere tool was he able to deliver such mesmerizing tunes.  Aidan Baker is a classically trained Canadian multi-instrumentalist currently based in Berlin. Recognized for both his solo work as well as doom/drone duo Nadja, he has already released a great number of records, also in collaboration with other musicians from all over the world (his projects include ARC, Infinite Light Ltd., Whisper Room, Adoran). Specifically designed to be played on shuffle and yield a completely unique experience each time, Aidan Baker’s audacious monsterpiece The Spectrum of Distraction takes a nod from Zappa’s technique of “xenochrony” and runs it though the digital age via the shuffle aspect of CD and MP3 players. 98 (!) tracks spanning two discs make for an incredibly varied landscape on each listen; with pieces ranging from just a few seconds to over seven minutes, there is no shortage of diversity. Hallucinatory dreamscapes weave into frantic noise into dubby passages into chilled-out jazz into psychedelic grooves into an oppressive industrial crunch into a hip hop bop into almighty sludge dirges and almost everything else the kitchen sink offers. Start to finish, through and through, nowhere else is it possible to experience anything quite like Baker’s truly enthralling The Spectrum of Distraction. Well-known as a core part of prolific heavyweights Nadja, Baker is backed here by an impressive array of notable drummers who’ve cut their teeth in the likes of Swans, The Jesus Lizard, Slowdive, Killing Joke, Godflesh, Jesu and many more. He began the project in 2009 by soliciting drum tracks and loops, ending up with roughly six hours of material from 18 different percussionists, then recorded guitar and bass to go along with them throughout the winter of 2010. The mass of content was scaled down to the 96 slices (spanning two hours) that appear on this pair of discs. The Spectrum of Distraction is housed in a beautifully illustrated 2xCD gatefold...

***The album title certainly does not deceive. But there is something absolutely worthy about AIDAN BAKER’s (NADJA) approach to drone composition. He employs a subtle, patient counterpoint that offers an appealing spaciousness when played loud. The music is utterly enveloping, seemingly forcing the listener into a meditative state (Do not operate heavy equipment while listening, unless that heavy equipment is speakers or a spaceship).
