At The Devil’s Studio 1990 by Beherit

Beherit

At The Devil’s Studio 1990
Nuclear War Now

***REISSUED!!! 1990 was an extraordinarily prolific year for BEHERIT, who were still just teenagers at the time and had only been playing music together for a few months. That year they released three demos, catching the attention of the fledgling German label Shithouse Records, which released Beherit’s Dawn of Satan’s Millennium pic disc EP later that same year. Shithouse, which later became Turbo Music, commissioned the band’s debut album, but a dispute between band and label ultimately led Turbo to release a compilation, instead, under the name The Oath of Black Blood. A proper debut album would not appear until 1993, with the release of Drawing Down the Moon. However, Beherit did enter the studio in 1990 with the intention of recording an album, but it was discarded and the tapes went missing until 2011 when drummer SODOMATIC SLAUGHTER unearthed them for release. While its historic value is undeniable, At the Devil’s Studio is a remarkable recording in its own right. Like Beherit’s other pre-DDTM recordings, At the Devil’s Studio is a visceral explosion of bestial carnage.

Like Beherit’s other pre-DDTM recordings, “At the Devil’s Studio” is a visceral explosion of bestial carnage. In fact, most of the tracks here are re-recorded versions of songs from the “Demonomancy” demo or else earlier renderings of tracks that appeared on the “Down There…” demo released in 1991 under the name The Lord Diabolus. There are three songs (“At the Devil’s Churns,” “Whores of Belial,” and the instrumental rehearsal track that opens the album) that don’t appear elsewhere in the Beherit catalog. With clearer production than the “Demonomancy” demo that...

The Oath Of Black Blood
Nuclear War Now

NWN! is honored to release this definitive reissue of The Oath of Black Blood. Often regarded as the first BEHERIT album, The Oath of Black Blood is a compilation of Beherit’s Demonomancy demo and the Dawn of Satan’s Millennium EP, both of which were originally released in 1990. Beherit never intended for these recordings to be released as a compilation LP; a dispute with their label, Turbo Music, resulted in the label’s unilateral decision to compile the earlier recordings rather than wait for a proper album of new material, as Beherit intended. Nevertheless, for many people, The Oath of Black Blood was their introduction to Beherit, causing many to assume it was recorded as a proper album. Both Demonomancy and Dawn of Satan’s Millennium represent inflection points in Beherit’s evolution. Picture LP with clear rim and a photo of Nuclear Holocausto on side B. Housed in 3mm jackets printed on thick cardstock. Includes 12" insert and 24"x24" poster of the cover art.

Live in Praha, CZ by Beherit

Live in Praha, CZ
Nuclear War Now

***Aside from the involvement of Nuclear Holocausto Vengeance (“NHV”), the only reliable constant of Beherit’s history is a persistent rejection of stasis. NHV has always insisted upon forging a unique path, one that is unpredictable and militantly unorthodox. Although the band’s history extends back some 35 years, they have played live on very few occasions, most of which were in the early days, when NHV and his confederates were still teenagers, and all took place in Beherit’s native country of Finland. Nearly three decades have passed since the last time Beherit took the stage, but they accepted the invitation to perform their first show outside of Finland at the NWN!/Hospital Fest in Osaka, JP in April of 2024. A few months later, on August 31, 2024, Beherit appeared in Prague, CZ. Accompanying NHV at these shows were Beherit’s original drummer, Sodomatic Slaughter; bassist Abyss, Twisted Baptizer, who played on the Engram album; and guitarist and vocalist Black Moon Necromancer, whose work with Witchcraft represents a tangible manifestation of Beherit’s legacy. With a setlist predominantly taken from Drawing Down the Moon, as well as a few tracks from The Oath of Black Blood and Engram, the band’s current live show is designed to be experiential for the listener, a curated atmosphere that only Beherit can produce. As those present for these shows will attest, the performances were not reducible to a mere recitation of fan favorites. Through the use of intros and interludes, samples and synthesizers, extended passages of hypnotic repetition,...
