***Into The Country was recorded throughout the year of 2016 in-between touring/working and CORY & CHRIS moving to Mexico and Australia respectively. Basic tracks were recorded by longtime collaborator IAN RUNDELL in his studio and then messed with in our practice space at the Monofonus compound in Austin, TX. Chris did most of the heavy lifting. Cory did some of the drum machines, and GEORGE was fiddling with some electronic gadgets, with lyrics once again mined from the info wars comment section and various other stressful situations like airports and hospitals. This is the first proper SPRAY PAINT LP since 2016's Feel The Clamps (Goner). Since then collaborations with Protomartyr, Ben Wallers, Ben Mackie, and Dan Melchior have been released.

2015’s quick succession of two full-length albums by Austin, TX, trio Spray Paint—Punters on a Barge in June on Australia’s Homeless Records followed by Dopers via Austin’s Monofonus Press—showed the band repeatedly visiting some proverbial “next level” relative to the steady developmental trajectory framed by their preceding 2012-2014 arrival-and-vision-quest phase (itself a three-album, three-7-inch chunk of catalog not appropriate for dismissal). At the risk of corniness in conveying the sterling truth, Feel the Clamps could be considered to represent drummer Chris Stephenson, guitarist Cory Plump and other guitarist George Dishner arriving at a “next level,” but next after what? They appear to have skipped a few. It would be inaccurate to call Feel the Clamps the band’s “definitive” document because it only “defines” where the band is at this stage, and the impressive distance between right now and the trio’s genesis less than five years ago. Spray Paint is hyper-prolific because these guys have something that needs to stay up in the world’s grill. A rapid-fire output is sometimes confused with “worth a shit.” You know why the world is choked with aggressively mediocre music? Because the aggressively mediocre are really, really prolific and have amazing work ethics. But Spray Paint is no relation to the stylistic transients who couch-surf sub-genres in what should be a new movement tagged “try-too-hardcore.” Their linear path of inspiration suggests there won’t even be a language to describe what the trio is making five years from now. Feel the Clamps will clear the fence...

Fifth album (and second of 2015) by Austin's Spray Paint. This album was recorded in the middle of a tour by modern madman Chris Woodhouse. They cited Rhys Chatham, Sonic Youth, This Heat, Brainbombs, Jesus Lizard, and The Fall when we asked them who they were ripping off this go-around.

***Extracting themselves from the dumpsters of Austin, Texas to create their “paranoid art punk”, No Wave sound—SPRAY PAINT once again present the atonal throb “post-punk workouts” they do so well, this time with some kraut drum beats thrown in for good measure. With two albums on S-S Records in 2013 and Clean Blood, Regular Acid released Oct ’14, all of which appeared regularly on end-of-year lists—Spray Paint’s fourth album, Punters On a Barge, is released on Homeless. Touring the USA with Parquet Courts and Protomartyr and frequent tours of the States that have included two invitations to play Gonerfest (Memphis), plus the annual SXSW gathering in home town of Austin, TX. The band also toured Europe Novemember 2014 and will play Japan/Australia June 2015, see them before the inevitable big time hits. "If Spray Paint's skull-ringing single 'Day of the Rope' wasn't enough to give you a damn-near stroke, their latest full-length LP Punters On a Barge will bash your head into oblivion. The Austin, Texas trio jack-hammers their way from militant post-punk to industrial noise with clanging guitars and droned-out vocals that could very well summon the robot apocalypse. Be still my cyborg heart."—Noisey “…the trio’s frantic rants glisten with sweat generated by decades of post-punk workouts. That sweat also pushes them beyond mimicry. The exhilarating execution of their taut-yet-rubbery songs puts Spray Paint’s music squarely in the present tense.” – Pitchfork

***Austin’s self-described “No-No Wave/Dub/Scum Rock” band, SPRAY PAINT, grace us with their third full length LP, Clean Blood, Regular Acid. After a heavy year—two albums on Sacramento’s S-S Records and touring with Protomartyr—Spray Paint are taking their psychotic stories, rebellious guitar riffs and punky kraut beats more seriously. Their sound is a bit broken, contemptuous and unhealthy, yet entirely engrossing. At times, it’s as equal parts The Fall as it is Endless Boogie, Eddy Current Suppression Ring or Nikki Sudden.

***“We released SPRAY PAINT’s first full length at the beginning of 2013 and it quickly sold sold. Did a repress and it keeps selling. Why? Because not only are these guys a great band, playing an updated mix of Wire/100 Flower/Lake of Dracula/A Frames-style punk/post punk, but they regularly tour (and like to do so). They've played SXSW a few times, Cropped Out, Gonerfest, and a couple stages at Fun Fun Fun. They have played live on WFMU and KDVS and get good rotation at college stations across the US. They have an increasing fan base in Europe, Australia and Japan. In 2014, they have their sights set on touring Europe and the West Coast. Their second album Rodeo Songs is even better than their first, so we expect no drop off in response to this Austin trio.”—S.S.

***S.S. Records is very pleased to announce the debut album of SPRAY PAINT, eleven songs of killer avant punk aggression that measures up with anything stomping around today. A little more than a year ago, CORY from SPRAY PAINT members contacted S.S. and asked if they could send a few songs. Recognizing his name from another band WHEN DINOSAURS RULED THE EARTH, whose psych-punkishness we dug, S.S. said ‘Certainly.’ Four songs came and we were blown away. 2012 saw two stellar 7”s from the Austin trio—energy packed, off-kilter yet tuneful punk rock & roll with a sound that brought to mind 100 Flowers, Saccharine Trust, Wire, and S.S. vets the A Frames. During the summer Spray Paint came west to play S.S. Records second fest in San Francisco and after a few weeks on the road they hit home and started recording this album. We heard most of the songs before Spray Paint’s tour and they were great, but gig after gig of playing them tightened them up and brought in new ideas. When the album was done, what hit our ears is eleven sonic booms: Great songs, ace playing, good ideas, and smart construction. Nothing is too long, nothing too short. Like the best punk rock & roll albums, Spray Paint’s debut is all meat, no fat, a compact punch with angular power. As noted above, we are very pleased. Pressed in an edition of 500 copies, and like the two 7”, the jackets have been painted on front...
