Snipes' score (aiding on many tracks by William Hutson) is ominous with bursts of panic. Both Jonathan Snipes and William Hutson play in the hip hop trio clipping.

***After L.A. is a lifetime as a moment. Not just a collection, but a consideration of what it means for an artist to have grown up, lashed out, and re-nested all within the extremely wide borders of Los Angeles. PALOMA PARFREY's ethos is immersed in LA history, both of the book smarts sort and the personally experienced. To some she is known as a chef. Others a punk diva. The majority of strangers in LA probably know her as the person always checking out 15 books simultaneously at the library. After L.A. pulls together all these things in the form of both a book and an album equal parts intertwined and standing on their own; much like the strange way the diversities of LA life and history work together. Paloma Parfrey has been writing and performing poetry around LA since she was 13. Her band, THE SHARP EASE, was an integral part of the LA DIY punk scene throughout the '00s. Her bandmate for the CD portion of this release is BRIAN MILLER, who performed in the drum and voice quartet FOOT VILLAGE, is a member of the TRUE NEUTRAL CREW, and records music for film and TV. Carried by her soulful voice, Fielded tells the story of a woman finding her liberation through the embodiment of consent. Her songs explore feelings of shame and isolation as well as desire, curiosity and strength; as we move with her through her healing from an early experience of sexual trauma we find ourselves exploring deeper our own relationship to emotional fortitude. However, these are not the sounds of mournful regret and victimhood. Fielded finds empowerment in the vulnerability of her lyrics and the intensity of her production. The cutting edge sense of rhythm, electronic arrangement, and hip-hop influenced vocal phrasing exudes a power and freshness that compliment the message of finding one’s courage and intuition. ‘Drip Drip’ is a fun album communicating a deep well of wisdom. Her exciting sound is comfortably paired with thoughtful and confrontational ideas, making the album feel both distinctly contemporary and wholly futuristic.

Experimental vocalist / electronic musician Yasushi Yoshida aka Yassan was touring the U.S. with his band Bonanzas from Osaka Japan and made a stop in NYC. We played a show with them and invited Yasushi over to our rehearsal space the next day in Gowanus and got into a 40 min improvisational jam which we recorded. We had Hisham on the drums, Nicos triggering / effecting Hisham's drums and Yasushi's vox, me on the Electribes and Yasushi's vox. This was recorded in one take with only a few minor edits to cut it down in length. No sounds were added post recording.  Yasushi Yoshida has been a part of the underground music scene in the Kansai area of Japan since the mid-nineties. Aside from Bonanzas Yoshida currently plays in a hybrid free jazz / techno group called DANTEFONE and has played in bands such as Spasmom, Suspiria, Nasca Car to name a few.  We would describe this music as 'mutant grime'.  Imagine a creature born with pelvic distortion inside of a black hole who is sent to earth to escape a dying planet infested by carnivorous machines made of cyanogenetic tar. This creature grows strong in the sewers of our planet, half alien flesh, half machine, feeding on nephrotoxic materials humans dump into the waterways. Baseck is a Los Angeles based experimental electronic musician. His roots run deep in L.A.'s underground rave scene since the early 90s. Baseck’s fascination with sound brought him to turntablism at an early age. The attraction to hands-on hardware learned from scratching records lent its way to audio manipulation with small battery powered toys, drum machines, and then modular synthesizers. His unique style and mastery of a wide range of music hardware created a segue into music technology. Since 2013, Baseck has been working with synthesizer companies offering design concepts that will enhance user playability. Dave Smith’s analog drum machine, Tempest, is released with presets designed by Baseck. Variatic Basicus, a Eurorack module created by Noise Engineering, was built for his live performance needs. At the peak of his performance, Baseck's style builds on past musical experiments combining 80s drum machine sounds of Breakdance and Industrial, with a future approach to Drum & Bass and Braindance using analog/digital hardware.

As freedoms of expression were suddenly being attacked by those suddenly in the grip of irrational fear, many artists just as quickly lashed back. Broad strokes of monstrosity, rawness, and nsfw level protest proliferated the basements, warehouses, and scum bag galleries of the nation—yielding some of the most extreme experimentalism in DIY music in ages. Acts such as Yellow Swans, Wolf Eyes, AIDS Wolf, Lightning Bolt, Fat Worm of Error, and tons more all made big waves. Harsh noise because amazingly common. In combination with the ease of music distribution thanks to the CDr, these surprising and uncompromised sounds were everywhere and for everyone. True fucking freedom. Director Patrick Kennelly and composer Jonathan Snipes have been working together for years; from some very twisted stage theater projects to music videos for Snipes' experimental rap group clipping. (Sub Pop). For Kennelly's debut feature film, Snipes tackled not only the entire score, but all the sound design as well. The results are one of the most brutal explorations of body horror you'll ever see and hear.   Heavily utilizing harsh noise and elements of the lead actresses' intense performances as parts of the score, Snipes' composition is exactly what you'd hope a horror film score to be: frightening as hell!!

I.E. (aka Margot Padilla) has been helping audiences loose their inhibitions for nearly a decade now. Emerging out of the same LA "Ravesploitation" scene that gave us Captain Ahab, I.E.'s music exists somewhere between bedroom K-Pop star, chola rave queen with a computer programming job, and outcast from the mall punk scene. Regardless of how you describe her music, Margot has always been intent on bringing the fun to everyone. So while a great deal of her shows happen at LA mainstay The Smell, some of her most memorable shows have happened at places like a farm with goats in the audiences and even at Hot Topic (where she pretty quickly got kicked off stage). Despite bringing joy to audiences for so many years now, 'Most Importantly' is I.E.'s first formal full length album. Long overdue. Produced in collaboration with Jonathan Snipes (clipping. / ex-Captain Ahab) and mastered by Thomas Dimuzio, this is I.E. refined to perfection.

"On May 27th, 1998, Sonic Youth played at The Fillmore in San Francisco. As usual, their choice of opening acts showed love for the local scene. Recent Matador signings, Fuck, took the middle slot, but the real coup of the evening was the opening act. This was the first time anyone had seen rRope on a stage this big. While their larger than life sound could be threatening in a small DIY venue, here they were transcendent. rRope never relied on blown out amps or distortion pedals that mangled their guitars into oblivion. Known for building their own amps based on old tube schematics, their guitars were meant to soar from one dimension, temporarily into ours, and then into another beyond imagining. When their rhythms would burst into neutrino fast intricacies, this was the sound of string theory manifested right before you, not a simple-minded blast of anger. At small warehouses, these sounds would bounce around the room, for better or worse. But on that night, they were truly free. This was rRope in their true element and it was their night. Rumors began that Sonic Youth had invited them to tour together. Years of hard dues seemed to have paid off. Needless to say, it was exciting. This would also be rRope's last show.   The bay area is well known for it's musical innovation and the 90s were a golden era.
