45... Not A Lp
Fat Wreck Chords

***Not known for making things political as the singer for the legendary punk band DESCENDENTS, MILO AUKERMAN finally speaks his mind about the political climate over the last four years with a brand new solo EP. 45... not a LP is the debut release from RebUke. Armed with a ukulele, cowbell, tabla drums and his signature voice, Milo takes aim at the current political catastrophe with three stipped down tracks that bring hope to a return to lucidity.

Fat Wreck Chords

***BACK IN STOCK!!! When it comes to CLASSIC Fat Wreck bands NO USE FOR A NAME certainly need no introduction, but here’s the scoop: No Use For A Name were one of the first bands on Fat Wreck Chords and remain a cornerstone of the label roster. Their unique take on California punk emphasized equally innovative and catchy melody, paired with top-flight musicianship. Despite the tragic passing of singer and songwriter TONY SLY in 2012, their presence can still be felt today, as their influence is evident in the work of many other artists. Over the course of their more than 20 year career, No Use For A Name amassed an impressive catalog of albums packed with hit songs. Rarities Vol. 2 features rare versions of songs that have only appeared on compilations along with never before heard demos from the band's Hard Rock Bottom album.

Dancing With The Curse by Get Dead

Get Dead

Dancing With The Curse
Fat Wreck Chords

***BACK IN STOCK!!! If you were to listen to GET DEAD'supcoming album Dancing with the Curse before reading this, you would think it was written about the year 2020. Surprisingly, the band started recording it more than two years ago but it feels perfectly time for today. Look no further than the song “Pepperspray,” written long before the protests of summer 2020. The band had begun collaborating with activist-artist collective INDECLINE on a video before the George Floyd protests erupted. If there was any time to share the message of “Pepperspray,” this was it. While Dancing with the Curse features Get Dead’s signature NorCal punk sound, balancing bombast with up-picked bounce and dirt-smudged acoustic songs, listeners will notice some curious moments. Subtle electronic flourishes lurk in songs like “Disruption,” “Glitch,” “Confrontation,” and “Take It.” The album opens with an atmospheric intro built on singer SAM KING's gravelly voice and hip-hop-inflected cadence—a happy accident. These sonic detours suit a band that isn’t known to stay in one place for too long. The conclusion of a long yet worthwhile journey, Dancing with the Curse is Get Dead’s most self-assured album yet, one perfectly suited to the times: raw, energized, frustrated, but ultimately unbowed.

The Decline - Live at Red Rocks
Fat Wreck Chords

***BACK IN STOCK!!! It has been more than 20 years since NOFX released arguably one of the most important (and looooooongest) song in punk rock history. While the world was a very different place way back in 1999, “The Decline” is still just as relevant (if not more-so) today. After years of teasing to release a live version of this nearly 20 minutes opus in it’s entirety, the time has finally come. NOFX is ready to unleash The Decline Live at Red Rocks. The song was played at the famous Red Rocks Amphitheater alongside a full orchestra (BAZ and his Orchestra)! NOFX fans have longed for the day they would get to hear this elusive live track, and now they get it from the comfort of their living room. If that wasn’t enough, we’ve also included a brand new unreleased song on the b-side! Fans will be clamoring to get their hands on this one.

***BACK IN STOCK!!! How often does the leader of one of your favorite bands ask you to do a split album? Where his band covers your songs? Singer-songwriter Frank Turner found himself in that situation last year, when Fat Mike of NOFX asked if he wanted to do a split covers album. West Coast vs. Wessex shows NOFX filtering five of Frank Turner’s songs through their singular sensibility, with Turner doing the same on five NOFX songs. But these aren’t simply double-time versions of Turner’s folk-punk tunes or slow, acoustic reworkings of NOFX’s iconic SoCal punk anthems. Both NOFX and Frank Turner took time to play with the possibilities each other’s music presented. They also put a lot of thought into the songs they chose to cover. Both groups really wanted to songs that presented an opportunity to create something unique, and bring something to the song that really made it their own. For Frank Turner’s side, the result was a tracklist that pulls more or less from deeper in NOFX’s discography. NOFX classic “Bob” being the exception, Turner transforms into a wistful country song. “Perfect Government” is joyously turned into a barroom singalong, along with a punked up “Scavenger Type,” the post-hardcore “Eat the Meek,” and a spare, haunting “Falling in Love.” On the NOFX side, their climactic take on “Substitute” could’ve fit on Punk in Drublic. “Worse Things Happen at Sea” simmers with an ominous portent. The jaunty “Thatcher Fucked the Kids” sounds like a companion to NOFX’s...

***NOW AVAILABLE ON VINYL!!! Founded in 1992 by the larger than life, Scottish punk-rock poet laureate, Mr. Paul McKenzie, this merry band of miscreants has spent a quarter-century circumnavigating the globe to bring the McKenzies gospel to an ever-expanding throng of rebels and scallywags. There’s not many bands that can boast of a nearly three decade long year career as staggeringly adventurous, wildly tempestuous, and utterly death-defying as The Real McKenzies. Their list of accolades is long. From sharing the stage with the likes of Rancid, Metallica, and Shane McGowan to appearing in film, books, and video games. Fueled by an insatiable appetite to meld driving punk rhythms with traditional Scottish melodies, The Real Mckenzies are set to release their eleventh full-length, Beer & Loathing, on July 3rd. Their latest opus blends guitars and bagpipes with Paul McKenzie spinning yarns of times long past and recounts endless drunken revelries. The songs are rebellious, poignant and achingly heartfelt with an extra helpings of Scottish charm and wit to boot. The unbridled energy and merriment of Beer & Loathing will immediately have the listener hoisting a pint glass and singing along to the infectious 12 tracks. Whether you're a McKenzie lifer or new to the game, these anthemic songs are sure to get your blood up and your heart pumping.

***Bad Cop Bad Cop has done angry. The band’s 2017 full-length, Warriors, was recorded in the aftermath of the 2016 presidential election. The message Bad Cop is sending this time around on their third full-length album The Ride is less about wagging your finger at others, or giving the middle one to the Man, than it is about self-love and acceptance. That positivity fuels many of The Ride’s tracks. “Originators,” “Simple Girl,” “Community,” “I Choose,” “Perpetual Motion Machine,” and “The Mirage” exude confidence, gratitude, and compassion. This self-love is tasking the listener with putting a fix on the problems at hand and finding it in themselves to create the life that they want. Singer Stacey Dee speaks from experience. In 2018 she was hospitalized twice for different ailments, then discovered she had stage one breast cancer at the end of the year. Fortunately it was highly treatable, but the experience was life-altering. Dee captures it with brutal frankness on “Breastless,” whose bright melodies belie the struggle described in the lyrics. “Certain Kind of Monster” and “Pursuit of Liberty”—both written and sung by bassist Linh Le—are blistering repudiations of the current administration’s treatment of immigrants. The former is an imagined conversation with an ICE agent, and the latter juxtaposes her family’s immigration to the U.S. from Vietnam in 1975 to current events- something she’s never explored musically. The perspective behind The Ride lends it an undeniable maturity, without losing its power. Recorded throughout much of 2018 and 2019 by Johnny Carey...

***Of all the words used to describe Western Addiction, ‘positive’ feels the least fitting. After all, the San Francisco quintet plays decidedly aggressive West Coast hardcore topped by the scratchy yowl of vocalist Jason Hall. But ‘positive’ appropriately describes the content of the group’s third full-length. Yes, it’s called Frail Bray, and yes, song titles include “Utter Despair” and “Deranged by Grief.” But the actual theme of the album more-so resembles hope and rejuvenation. Make no mistake: Western Addiction hasn’t gone sunshine and rainbows. Frail Bray remains as aggressive as its predecessors. Guitarists Ken Yamazaki and Tony Teixeira sound huger than ever, with Mitch Paglia’s knotty bass lines in lock step with Chad Williams’ intricate beats. And Hall opens the album with an attack on destructive capitalism called “The Leopard and the Juniper.” But listen closely, and hope sneaks in. It’s in the two-part celebration of motherhood, “Rose’s Hammer I” and “Rose’s Hammer II.” It’s in “Laurette” and the perpetual rejuvenation of “Wildflowers of Italy.” It shines brightly in “We Lived in Ultraviolet” – a straight-up love song. The point of view isn’t the only thing that’s different on Frail Bray. Since forming in 2002, Western Addiction has defied easy categorization, and Frail Bray finds the band slipping further beyond the confines of hardcore with nods to classic rock ’n’ roll, and album closer “Deranged by Grief” recalls Suicidal Tendencies by way of Simon and Garfunkel, one of Hall’s favorite groups.

Show Me The Blueprints.
Fat Wreck Chords

***Veteran thrashgrass band DAYS N DAZE has spent more than a decade doing it themselves in a way few can match. From the beginning, they have forged their own path—playing acoustically so they’d have less gear and could perform anywhere, booking and promoting themselves, and self-recording and self-releasing their albums. In the rare instances when they work with outsiders, they stick with people they know. Which is why, after a dozen hardscrabble years, they’ve joined Fat Wreck Chords for their eighth full-length! Like previous Days N Daze albums, Show Me the Blueprints. crams more ideas into its 11 tracks than albums twice its length. FLYNN and SENDEJAS' rapid-fire words dig into addiction and sobriety on “LibriYUM,” “My Darling Dopamine,” and “Addvice"—obsessive-compulsive disorder on “Show Me the Blueprints.,” the current political climate on “None Exempt,” old-fashioned heartache on “Fast Track”, and death on “Goodbye Lulu Pt.2.” Show Me the Blueprints. is a bold step forward for a band that has always followed a bold path.

***It was in 2006 that Detroit punks THE SUICIDE MACHINES called it a day after 15 years and six full-throttle, super-charged and confrontational albums. The break didn’t last too long—in 2009, the four-piece reconvened to play the occasional local shows and embarked on a handful of tours. Finally, the band is back with a brand-new album—the first since War Profiteering Is Killing Us 15 years ago! Revolution Spring, the band’s seventh album and Fat Wreck debut, picks up right where they left off—full of blistering, rousing songs finding the band in truly explosive and energetic form. Over the course of a couple of years, the band wrote a total of 30 songs. With the help of both LESS THAN JAKE's bassist ROGER LIMA, who produced Revolution Spring, and THE CODE's frontman MARC CODE, The Suicide Machines whittled those down to the 16 that make up this record. While on the one hand, these songs serve as an overview of the band’s career and the different permutations of punk they’ve dabbled in over the years, it also possess the energy, spontaneity and enthusiasm of a band many years their junior—albeit with the wisdom that comes from being alive for a few decades. Recorded in “about 12 days” at Rancho Recordo, Revolution Spring is a powerful and cohesive combination of hardcore, ska and anthemic punk rock.

Bombpops, The

Death In Venice Beach
Fat Wreck Chords

***Where THE BOMBPOPS had a Fear of Missing Out on their 2017 debut full-length, their highly anticipated follow up shows what happens when you’re too involved—with booze, bad situations, and behavior that’s unsustainable at best and destructive at worst. It’s right there in the title—Death in Venice Beach—an allusion to Thomas Mann’s celebrated novella about the price of an artistic life. What draws The Bombpops hasn’t changed on their newest effort: highly melodic punk with big guitars, vocal harmonies, and the SoCal sound that inspired the quartet to pick up instruments. But the more light-hearted skate punk of Fear of Missing Out has a serrated edge on Death in Venice Beach, as they explore darker themes—drawing from real life experiences.

***BACK IN STOCK!!! PEARS laid siege to the punk world with their 2014 debut release Go To Prison and have been on a buzz-generating rampage ever since. Their follow-up album Green Star saw PEARS take their audacious songwriting approach to a whole new level with relentless touring along the way. The forthcoming self-titled third album, Pears is yet another significant step forward for a band that has grown by leaps and bounds on each album. Recorded with CHRIS FOGAL at Black in Bluhm Studio in Denver, Pears is 14 songs and 31 minutes of the band’s signature hardcore: heavy, melodic, blistering, pointed, and surprisingly catchy. While it continues down the path set by Green Star and Go to Prison, Pears finds the band taking a different creative approach. While their former albums were written well in advance; Pears was written on the fly, and the result is 14 tracks with ankle breaking tempo changes, frenetic guitar riffs, and impelling vocals. Elements of prog and grunge intermingle with classic hardcore and hook-laden rock that can happen in the space of one song. From riff-heavy album opener “Killing Me” to “Naptime”—moving from loping pop to group-chant hardcore—to the midtempo pop song “Traveling Time”—PEARS show time again how they are able to expertly mend all these elements into one cohesive, unique, and potent cocktail.

Get it Together by Makewar

Makewar

Get it Together
Fat Wreck Chords

***MAKEWAR first burst through the Southern Border Wall and onto the national stage in 2016 when Brendan Kelly – member of The Lawrence Arms and co-founder of Red Scare Industries —played a show with singer/guitar JOSE. He was so impressed by his acoustic act that he decided whatever Jose’s band was, if they played those songs, he wanted them on Red Scare. Shortly after, came their debut album Developing a Theory of Integrity—a ripping skatepunk/Brooklyn Emo Night hybrid that caught everyone off-guard with its unabashed dynamism and brass balls, while somehow effortlessly remaining faithful to Makewar's influences. Their Fat Wreck debut is the perfect follow-up. Get it Together is a uniquely fresh-eyed and youthful rallying cry, tempered with anger, heartache, and a dash of hardcore rage and virtuosity that belies their relatively short tenure as a band. Makwar is a mighty bilingual Voltron that is equal parts Venezuela (Jose-guitar/vocals), Columbia (EDWIN-bass/vocals) and Florida (GREG-drums). Makewar is THE punk band for today’s increasingly polarized world—furious, multicultural and packed with revolutionaries.

***BACK IN STOCK!!! As the first band to sign to Fat Wreck Chords and the label’s flagship since its inception, LAGWAGON helped define the musical focus of the label and the punk genre. With 8 full-length albums, a live record, a b-sides album, an EP, and too many singles to count; Lagwagon’s ability to consistently deliver the familiar sound they’ve defined, while conveying something entirely novel with each album is unparalleled. Unlike the last few Lagwagon albums, Railer was written in an incredibly condensed period of time, in an attempt to capture the spirit of the band’s early days. Songs like “Stealing Light,” “Dangerous Animal” and “Dark Matter” bristle with a raw, ragged and pure energy that harken back to the band’s early days—unique for any band to have after almost 30 years of existence. Reinventing Axl Rose (Reissue)
Fat Wreck Chords

***BACK IN STOCK!!! AGAINST ME!! quickly ascended to the upper echelon of the punk scene with hit-after-hit over the last two decades and a variety of record labels. AM! joined the Fat Wreck family in 2003 with their breakthrough album As the Eternal Cowboy, followed by Searching for a Former Clarity. In 2007 they made their major label debut with New Wave, followed by White Crosses before starting their own label; Total Treble Music and releasing two more critically acclaimed albums, Transgender Dysphoria Blues and Shape Shift with Me. But it was prior to all this success that Against Me! made arguably the most important album of their career. One that would become an instant cult classic and stand the test of time, fitting right in with scores of Against Me! fans past and present across the globe. Reinventing Axl Rose was AM!’s debut album released on No Idea Records back in 2002. This genre defining full-length has remained a critical piece to any punk rock fan’s collection; a piece that has been hard to come by in recent years. Those days are now over, as Fat Wreck has rescued this seminal album and are reissuing the original full-length, complete with new CD and LP packaging. There's A Lot Of It About
Fat Wreck Chords

***After a long hiatus (yet again), one of the UK’s most notable and unique punk exports SNUFF are back with a brand new full-length. 6 years has passed since Snuff broke their former hiatus with the acclaimed 5-4-3-2-1…Perhaps? and talk about a return to glory! There’s A Lot Of It About hits the mark yet again, fitting perfectly with hallmarks like Demmamussabebonk and Snuff Said. TALOIA is a return to that trademark Snuff sound that took up where The Specials left off, turning abandoned dancehalls into adrenaline filled clubs where punks, mods, and skins all stage dived together. The energy, melody, and, dare we say, danceability of There’s A Lot Of It About is at the exact level that earned Snuff such praise as “the best band in the world” from the NME. With hit after addictive hit, Snuff exceeds the expectations of even the most fervent fans. Twelve classic tracks with horns, hooks, and catchy melodies that exemplify just why they have survived for over 30 years make certain There’s a Lot of It About will quickly be considered among the best albums of Snuff's vast catalog.

***Since forming in 2006, MEAN JEANS have become one of the better-known bands of the Pacific Northwest punk scene for their chaotic but relentless attack, raucous live shows, and fierce commitment to the art of partying. They brought the party to Fat in 2016 with their highly acclaimed Fat Wreck debut Tight New Dimension, followed by last year’s Jingles Collection—a 23-song assemblage of unsolicited jingles written for their favorite products. Gigantic Sike is the band's’ fifth full-length and falls into the same category as their prior albums—three-chord, heavily Ramones-influenced party punk, but with a bit of a twist. While the songs are fun and fast, there is a darker story being told of the bleak existence of a party boy. Each of the 11 tracks have an element of sadness and cynicism to them. On the surface, opening track “Party Line” is about a hotline you call when you’re ready to party. The hotline is singer BILLY JEANS' actual cell phone. No one is blowing up the party line anymore and everyone is moving on with their lives. “What the Fuck Is up Tonight?” describes the struggle between heeding the call to grow up, and the desire to live in the moment. Gigantic Sike’s mission statement concludes with its closing track. “Time Warp” is a fizzy, melodic number that serves as an exit strategy for the issues presented throughout the album—you have the ability to run away from all of the stupid decisions you’ve made in life, and take the...

Songs Of Armor And Devotion
Fat Wreck Chords

***For anyone who has listened to punk rock over the past couple decades, STRUNG OUT needs no introduction. Their signature brand of intense, frenetic, metal-influenced punk has elevated them to elite status and played a significant role in redefining the genre. From their FAT debut Another Day in Paradise to 2015’s Transmission.Alpha.Delta, and 2018’s expansive acoustic EP Black Out the Sky; Strung Out's consistency in pushing the envelope is unmatched. If you listened to their new album Songs of Armor and Devotion with no prior knowledge of Strung Out you probably wouldn’t guess that the California band has been together for almost 30 years—such is the intensity and fresh energy of these 13 songs. Produced by CAMERON WEBB, who was behind the helm of 2009’s Agents of the Underground, it’s a record that brims with the same ferocious fire the band had at the very start of its career, but which also demonstrates how far the California five-piece have evolved as songwriters, musicians and people. Good Riddance

Thoughts And Prayers
Fat Wreck Chords

***For more than 25 years, GOOD RIDDANCE has written tuneful punk anthems that take on injustice in all forms. That spirit drove classic albums like For God and Country, A Comprehensive Guide to Moderne Rebellion, and Ballads from the Revolution, and it carries through to the brand new album Thoughts and Prayers—the band’s second album since reforming in 2012. As a voice of resistance through four presidential administrations, Good Riddance seems well-suited for these fraught times—but don’t expect a bunch of obvious anti-45 screeds. Though the anxiety and anger of the day is palpable on Thoughts and Prayers, a title taken from the inane platitudes spouted by politicians after mass shootings. “Our Great Divide” reflects the unprecedented polarization of American society over a classic three-chord progression and breakneck beat. “No King but Caesar” warily eyes the destructiveness of complacency, and the dire warning of “Pox Americana” would be too much to bear without its vocal harmonies and soaring guitar. But Thoughts and Prayers isn’t without light. Opener “Edmund Pettus Bridge” imagines “one billion hearts entwined in revolution,” and “Wish You Well” boasts one of the catchiest choruses of the band's long discography.

Let Me Know When You Give Up by Cape, Joey

Cape, Joey

Let Me Know When You Give Up
Fat Wreck Chords

***Originally known as the singer, songwriter, and founder of both LAGWAGON and BAD ASTRONAUT, JOEY CAPE has established himself as a recognized solo artist over the past 13 years. His solo ventures have allowed him to stretch the bounds of his musical stylings, highlighting more diverse instrumentation, subdued pace, and experimental elements. The one constant, of course, is his unique ability to craft unforgettable songs. Joey doesn’t want to call it an epiphany, but in recent years he’s come to a realization about life—specifically, the best way to live it. It’s a simple philosophy: even though we’re living in very troubled times, it’s important to not get bogged down by it all. As he incorporates that mindset into his day-to-day life, it naturally gets absorbed into his music, and serves as the crux of Joey's new solo album Let Me Know When You Give Up. This idea of simplifying your life and letting go of the struggle, rings clear throughout Let Me Know When You Give Up’s 11 tracks.

***Since Fat Wreck Chords began nearly 30 years ago, people have associated the label with a certain sound, and it’s safe to say it bears little resemblance to TOMMY AND JUNE. The self-titled debut from the mysterious duo lacks the aggressive, overdriven power of the bands on Fat Wreck’s Mount Rushmore. Tommy and June’s 10 tracks stick mostly to acoustic guitars, breathy vocal harmonies, and a spirit indebted to Pete Seeger as much as Pete Shelley. But this isn’t power chords on acoustic guitars, or punks unplugging for novelty’s sake. Delicate finger-picking carries “Lonely Train,” “Adulthood,” and closer “Young Man Bones,” for instance. “Better Life Story” and “Monogamist” bounce with a folky jauntiness. “Mary Unfaithful” is a straight-up pop song that should soundtrack a montage in a romantic comedy. In a good way. That said, Tommy and June isn’t coffeeshop chic. The distorted guitars and propulsive percussion of “Ghost of Paris,” located at the midway point of the album, will sound familiar to Fat Wreckfans. The organ-assisted “New Alive” is a hooky blast of new wave energy, which “Black Maze” picks up again toward the end of the album. Lyrically, Tommy and June has plenty of teeth. “Jetlag Blues” recalls the experience of Traveling While Brown, and “Adulthood,” “Better Life Story,” and “Young Man Bones” exude a punk rock defiance to the expectations of growing up. Listeners who pay attention to the lyrics will hear enough clues to guess something about Tommy and June’s lives. But label co-founder Fat Mike—who...

Too Old To Die Young by Bracket

Bracket

Too Old To Die Young
Fat Wreck Chords

***BRACKET has always felt like a square peg in a world of round holes. The story goes, they were too melodic to be punk, and too punk to be pop. But the band found a home at the haven for misfits, Fat Wreck Chords. Bracket made their Fat Wreck full-length album debut in 1997 with Novelty Forever, followed up by 2000’s When All Else Fails, and 2002’s Live in a Dive. In 2006 the band went their own way to explore their love of classic pop with Requiem, Hold Your Applause and the ambitious 70 minute (!) song The Last Page in 2016. 2019 sees Fat Wreck and Bracket reunited at last with the release of their first new album together in nearly two decades! Too Old to Die Young is a return to form for the band, distilling the Bracket sound stretching back to when “2rak005” first hooked listeners in 1994. The album finds Bracket still indulging their love for Beach Boys harmonies, but also taking a more straightforward songwriting approach. Self-recorded over the period of a couple years, Too Old to Die Young shows Bracket at their most collaborative to date. Everything was written together, including the lyrics. The album wrestles with the themes implied by its title, including the wariness that comes from making music for such a long time. Fans will be eager to get their hands on this latest installment of Bracket's uniquely classic barrage of harmonies, hook-laden choruses, and lyrical artistry.

***CJ RAMONE made his name as a member of the greatest punk band of all time. Nearly 25 years after that experience, it’d be understandable if CJ now spent his days resting on his legacy. However, since 1996 he has continued to make music. CJ Ramone's debut album Reconquista was unleashed unto the world in 2012, followed by Fat Wreck Chords debut Last Chance to Dance, and American Beauty in 2014 and 2017 respectively. CJ celebrates his continued undiminishing love of music with the release of his newest (and strongest) album, aptly titled The Holy Spell…. The album is full of fist-pumping punk, but not limited to it. The first half; kicked off by “One High One Low,” continues the hook-laden pop punk that fans expect from the Ramone name. “Hands of Mine” gives the album a country ting around the halfway point. Classic covers of “Crawling from the Wreckage” and “There Stands the Glass” harken to CJ’s musical influences as a child. The Holy Spell… closes strong with classic SoCal pop-punk anthems “Movin’ On”, “Postcard from Heaven,” and “Rock On;” a heartfelt tribute to CJ’s former bandmate, friend, and collaborator Steve Soto. From start to finish The Holy Spell… keeps the spirit of the Ramones alive while taking on a life all its own! (STREET DATE - 5/10/2019)

***FAT MIKE, the infamous front-man from the most successful independent punk rock band in the world, has never been one to mince words. NOFX fans have come to expect a certain filter level (or lack there-of) when it comes to what travels through Mike’s brain and out his mouth. But back in 2010, Fat Mike surprised even his most ardent fans with the debut performance of his grimy alter ego COKIE THE CLOWN at SXSW in Austin, TX. The live set involved a series of brutally heartbreaking true stories from Mike’s past mixed in with a stripped-down acoustic set, and a suspect bottle of tequila that landed the singer on TMZ. Now, nine years later we are finally ready to unveil what so many have been eagerly awaiting (or bracing themselves for—the release of Cokie’s debut album. You’re Welcome is a 10-song 38-minute quest into the darkest depths of Fatty’s psyche. From the opening track “Bathtub”—a candid story about Fat Mike waking to find his wife overdosed and drowning in a hotel bathtub, to “Swing and a Miss”—the all-too-real story of the time Mike’s friend and roommate killed himself; and album closer “Punk Rock Saved My Life”—a poignant autobiographical account of how Mike got to where he is today through punk rock. As Fat Mike puts it, “I peeled my fucking skin off for this record.” But he didn’t have to do it alone. You’re Welcome’s liner notes read like a ‘who’s who’ of A-list rock talent. Produced by Danny...

Nature / Nurture by Clowns

Clowns

Nature / Nurture
Fat Wreck Chords

***Melbourne punks CLOWNS have never been ones to conform. The five-piece started life in 2010 as a more-or-less straightforward hardcore punk act, but over the course of their first three albums—2013’s I’m Not Right, 2015’s Bad Blood and 2017’s Lucid Again—they have steadily evolved and mutated their sound in whatever direction they felt like. It has always been loud but has become more nuanced over the years. The Fat Wreck debut Nature / Nurture continues down this snaking path—it’s 11 songs swerving right and left abruptly, veering from frenetic punk to slower more psychedelic-tinged rock, all while remaining a cohesive amalgamation of their three previous albums. While Nature / Nurture does contain some blistering, bellicose pun, it also has some of the slowest and most experimental songs Clowns have ever recorded. This is punk rock with a difference, that uses traditional facets of that genre as a foundation, but then builds upon that to create something that’s both utterly unique and incredibly exciting. That coupled with their intricate musicianship, clever, incisive lyrics and their phenomenally high energy live shows Clowns are quickly becoming a crowd favorite around the globe.

***Since 1991, HI-STANDARD has been a driving force in the Japanese music scene. Their eclectic and melodic approach to songwriting has garnered the band an enormous following; one which rose steadily before exploding with their breakthrough 1999 album Making the Road. In addition to headlining sold out stadium shows in Japan (no shit, they’re the Japanese Green Day), their signature sound has garnered thousands of fans around the globe. After Making the Road, Hi-Standard went on hiatus until 2011, when they headlined the Air Jam festival in Tokyo. Over this decade of inactivity their fanbase grew to inconceivable numbers. With all of this support & excitement, Hi-Standard knew there was nothing else to do but get back in the studio. In 2016 the bandreleased their first new material in 15 years: the 4 song 7” titled Another Starting Line, which earned much critical acclaim and love from their fans. Hi-Standard's latest offering is a 14-song album recorded by the one and only RYAN GREEN (NOFX, Bad Religion, No Use For A Name). With The Gift, fans can expect all the heartfelt harmonies and melodic punk magic that helped define the classic FAT sound of the '90s. Fom start to finish, The Gift delivers bombastic vocals with sugary sweet melodies that are just as infectious as ever. The cherry on the top of this 21st century update of the classic 90s FAT sound is the full-color cover art by famed '90s rock poster artist FRANK KOZIK.

***DIRECT HIT is back with their second full-length album in just 3 years. Never known for idle hands, they even found time to release the killer 2017 split LP Human Movement with their friends and labelmates PEARS. Crown of Nothing was largely constructed in the shadows, with little information of its creation being shared with the public. This 14-track collection proves to be Direct Hit's most challenging, elaborate, and downright catchy work to date. As with previous albums, Crown of Nothing is thematic: the idea that heaven and hell might be the same place. While the concept sounds serious and heavy, fear not, the band's unique strain of “fuck you, get pumped” party punk reigns supreme throughout.

***It has been a decade since NIGHT BIRDS exploded onto the scene, resuscitating the surf-inspired '80s hardcore sound that fans continuously flock to. With a style akin to the likes of Adolescents, Germs, and Dead Kennedys, Night Birds bring an epileptic energy that defies the listener to sit still. Through three full-length albums the band continues to deliver their signature onslaught of throwback-meets-modern hardcore. As with their live show, this is prevalent on their latest mini-album Roll Credits. With the addition of original guitarist MIKE HUNCHBACK, their frenetic energy reaches a whole new level throughout Roll Credits’ eight tracks. By keeping the record concise, fans can expect this album to be a lean combination of the band’s best elements. From the propulsive, self-deprecating “Onward to Obscurity” (featuring guest vocals from POISON IDEA's JERRY A.) to the fantastically tongue-in-cheek “My Dad Is the BTK,” you won’t find a whiff of filler on this thing.

***Since their 2011 comeback album, street-punk mainstays SWINGIN’ UTTERS have been on a tear—releasing two more new albums, a career spanning greatest hits album, and relentless touring—building on their hallmark aesthetic of classic street-punk, with a wide array of folk, country, garage-rock, and even honky-tonk embellishments. Once again JOHNNY, DARIUS, and JACK have collaborated to put together 15 songs that are as catchy as they are cohesive. Peace and Love is a true testament to the creative dexterity of these talented songwriters. From the Lemmy-inspired album opener “Undertaker, Undertake” to the catchy pop-tinged “Human Potential” to album closing ballad “H.L.S.,” a heartfelt tribute to Jack’s friend and former bandmate, the Utters do not disappoint on Peace and Love. With the addition of LUKE RAY (COBRA SKULLS) and TONY TEIXEIRA (Cobra Skulls, WESTERN ADDICTION), Swingin' Utters have taken on a whole new life while maintaining that classic Utters sound that has placed them in a league of their own for 3 decades. Ribbed - Live in a Dive by NOFX

NOFX

Ribbed - Live in a Dive
Fat Wreck Chords

***Fat’s fan-favorite Live in a Dive is back! And who better to revive this classic live series than FAT MIKE's very own NOFX? And yes, Ribbed - Live in a Dive is the classic 1991 NOFX Ribbed album from start to finish! This gives us what we expect from a NOFX show: equal parts punk rock and comedy hour, chock full of all the wit and hijinks you can handle. On NOFX’s previous live records—1995’s I Heard They Suck Live, and 2007’s They’ve Actually Gotten Worse Live—they changed up the old classics a bit. Fast songs became slow songs, slow jams became fast-paced rippers; all the while sprinkling in their signature drunkenness and glaring mistakes. However, fans who love the original Ribbed studio LP, fear not! There was no messing around when they recorded this thing in 2012 at the Mayan Theater in Los Angeles, CA. All 14 songs are played true to their original form. Ribbed - Live in a Dive makes you feel like you were actually there. Just crank up the heat, and cram all your friends into a small room, and you’re instantly transported to a NOFX show from 1991. Keep an eye out for a NOFX show near you as they have a ton of touring planned, including the headlining slot on all Punk In Drublic festival dates worldwide.

Hold Fast (Acoustic Sessions)
Fat Wreck Chords

***When it comes to punk rock, few can rival what FACE TO FACE has accomplished in 27 years (!) as a band. While always staying true to the signature face to face sound, they are consistently finding new and exciting ways to keep their fans invigorated. With this in mind, it will come as no surprise that the band shifted gears on their upcoming album Hold Fast (Acoustic Sessions). As the name implies, the new album features 10 acoustic renderings of classic Face To Face songs. Comprised of fan-favorites ranging across their entire catalog, the songs on Hold Fast (Acoustic Sessions) are so much more than simply strippeddown versions of the originals on acoustic guitar. The songs come to life in a whole new way with robust instrumentation and a savvy musical perspective that puts them right at home among today’s most respected Americana and Alt-Acoustic acts. Of course, these fresh new takes still feature the unforgettable melodies that fans originally fell in love with, making them the perfect addition to summer playlists for both long-time fans and new listeners alike.
