The Jolts are well known as the best rock ’n ’roll band in Western Canada. Since forming, they’ve charting college radios across the country with every release and played every nook and cranny on their numerous cross-Canada tours. Their six-year history has seen them open up for just about every touring heavyweight that made their way through Vancouver, earning rave reviews from concert goers and critics alike for their high-energy stage presence and quality musicianship. 2010 highlights included headlining a massive punk rock party in Vancouver celebrating former Black Flag frontman Ron Reyes’s 50th birthday, a headlining slot alongside UK punk legends Deviated Instinct at Vancouver’s Distort Fest and an Olympic protest show with Vancouver punk legends D.O.A. right in the heart of the infamous Downtown Eastside. 8% is a co-release between Joey Keithley’s Sudden Death Records and the band’s own Haute Voltage label. The album is a testament to The Jolts’ versatility. The Ramones’ hooks and progressions are still there, but the music has evolved beyond punk rock conventions, flirting with influences ranging from Rose Tattoo and MC5 to Hanoi Rocks and The Damned. Despite these comparisons, The Jolts remain a sound all their own. With every town’s bar in their sites, The Jolts bring their supercharged rock ’n’ roll on tour from August to October 2011.

Joe "Shithead" Keithley, Canada's godfather of punk, has teamed with his cronies Floor Tom Jones (drums) and Dirty Dan Sedan (bass) for one of D.O.A.'s hardest-hitting albums yet. Talk - Action = 0 (not to be confused with the long-out-of-print 1991 live album Talk Minus Action Equals Zero) is the band's lucky 13th studio album and sees them returning to their roots; initial reports have drawn comparisons to D.O.A.'s classic first two albums: Something Better Change and Hardcore '81. There's plenty of what you would expect from the boys--power, politics and humor--with a few unique twists thrown in just to keep the punks on their toes. Talk - Action = 0 opens with the blistering "That's Why I Am an Atheist," followed by the Eddie-Cochran-inspired "Rebel Kind." The angry anthem "Don't Bank on a Bank" and the all-too-timely "I Live in a Car" offer further proof that D.O.A. is an accurate barometer of the social climate. The reality does not stop there, though, as "The R.C.M.P." exposes the misdeeds of Canada's national police force. The band also hits some real highs with their ode to Star Trek, "Captain Kirk, Spock, Scotty and Bones," as well covers of "The Times They Are A-Changin' "and "That's Amore." The album was produced by chief punk Keithley along with Chon (Live Free or Die). As with all their releases, Talk - Action = 0 serves as a reminder of D.O.A's influence on three generations of fans and musicians, from Green Day, Rancid and...

Sudden Death Records is pleased to present the re-release of Let's Wreck the Party by Vancouver, Canada's legendary DOA. At their peak, after years of constantly touring the world, the band's 1985 line-up was one of their most blistering: Joey "Shithead" Keithley on vocals and guitar, Ken "Dimwit" Montgomery (of Pointed Sticks) on skins and vocals, Brian "Wimpy" Roy Goble (of The Subhumans) on vocals and bass, and Dave Gregg on guitar and vocals. This classic album covers all the subject matter one expects from these punk pioneers. There are political anthems like "General Strike," "Our World," "Race Riot," "The Warrior Ain't No More" and "Trial by Media." DOA-style humor is served well with "Singin' in the Rain," "Dance o' Death" and the blistering "Let's Wreck the Party." The full-tilt "Murder in Hollywood" gives Goble's take on a grisly murder that took place one floor below the band's digs in Hollywood. DOA recorded Let's Wreck the Party with producer extraordinaire Brian "Too Loud" Macleod (RIP). The end result was no-holds-barred, high-voltage punk rock. This album influenced three generations of fans and artists like Rancid, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ian MacKaye, Henry Rollins, Jello Biafra and Nirvana.

***DOA, Canada’s punk legends and the originators of hardcore, are set to pummel with a great new album, Kings of Punk, Hockey and Beer. A short time ago, Canadian punk godfather Joe “Shithead” Keithley was sourly contemplating the namby-pamby-ness of the new National Hockey League style, and as he reached for the solace of a beer, it occurred to him, “Hey, damn this corporate NHL crap! Let’s give the people some real rough-and-tumble on the ice! The DOA way!” Kings of Punk, Hockey and Beer finds DOA returning to their roots. The band invented the “Hockey Rock” genre with their breakthough “Taking Care of Business” video in 1987 that featured BTO guitarist Randy Bachman (of course, all due credit to Phil Esposito and Marcel Dionne for their “interesting” attempt at Hockey Rock in the early ’70s), then formed their own team, The DOA Murder Squad, perpetual champions of the VMHL, out-scoring rival hockey bands like Bad Religion, The Hanson Brothers, and SNFU and roughing them up just for fun. This album is a knock-’em-down, beat-’em-in-the-alley affair that combines the three most important things in the DOA world: punk, hockey, and beer! The boys smash you into the corner with the anthemic “Donnybrook,” then they slash you with “Dead Men Tell No Tales,” and just as you’re returning to consciousness, they pitchfork you with “Beer Liberation Army” and “Beat ’Em, Bust ’Em.” The kings of high-sticking also nail you with a great version of the Stompin’ Tom Conners classic, “The Hockey...

The Action, one of Canada's first punk bands, formed in Ottawa in 1977. Their style combined early American and English punk like The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, and The Vibrators with rock influences such as The Rolling Stones' guitar attack and The Allman Brothers' dual-guitar and slide-guitar leads, which, combined with provocative lyrics and an untouchable stage show, made The Action a musician's band. The Action was chosen to open for The Ramones in 1978 and helped spearhead punk across Canada when they supported The Stranglers on that band's first North American tour the same year. This collection covers The Action's short but wild career from 1977-'78: their debut 12-inch (which includes the cult classic "TV's on the Blink") and a recording for a never-released follow-up EP, plus smokin' live tracks recorded at the infamous Rotters Club in Ottawa, Canada. The Action was the three Fenton brothers, Paul, John, and Michael, as well as the incomparable Ted Axe on vocals and Shot Spot MacDonald on drums. Their music sounds just as fresh and vital as it did 30 years ago.

***Yow! After twenty years in secret vaults, a new anthology of songs has resurfaced from Vancouver’s Punk Rock jesters THE SPORES. As one of the leaders of the second wave of punk’s ‘glory years’, the band clawed their way through the shattered music scene of 1983, recording several singles, videos and the album Schizofungi!, which was hailed by both geniuses and idiots alike. The songs were furious yet melodic, and the band was compared to the music styles of The Damned and Stiff Little Fingers. Known for their outrageous live act, they grew a fan base of rabid followers who were a constant element to their sold out shows. In 1988, during the intense recording of their follow-up album, the Spores were torn apart, leaving only fragments of what would be their best songs. As the years passed and other musical styles rose and fell, these songs percolated in hybernation until recently rediscovered. Now, remixed and digitally enhanced, they form the anthology News Weather And Spores, along with other selected anthems from the band’s vinyl years. These twenty songs represent the best of the Spore’s output and none have ever been released on CD before. The disc also contains anti-videos for “Up the Boss” and “Meat Biproduct”.
