War On 45 - 40th Anniversary Reissue
Sudden Death

In 1982, D.O.A. was ready to record a new album on the heels of their first two albums: Something Better Change and Hardcore ’81, which are still both musical landmarks to this day. But their legendary line up had changed, as Randy Rampage was ousted from the band. Chuck Biscuits’ older brother Dimwit Biscuits stepped in on bass with Chuck still on drums, Joey Shithead on vocals and guitar and Dave Gregg on guitar. While this line up only lasted for three months, the band traveled to L.A. and recorded demos at Mystic Studios. Eventually Chuck quit, Dimwit took over on drums and Wimpy Roy became the bassist. So, as a grand way of celebrating the 40th Anniversary of War On 45, which many a critic and fan hailed as one of the most innovative albums of its time and on a par, quality wise with their first two albums. Sudden Death decided to add some bonus matterial. First off, now included is a 12-page booklet of unique photos, posters and an extensive history of D.O.A. at that time, written by Canada’s godfather of punk Joey Shithead. Also, All eight tracks from the War On 45 1982 release are on side A and seven tracks from the pre-War On 45 demos that were recorded at Mystic onto Side B. So one has the Montgomery brothers: Biscuits and Dimwit, two of the greatest drummers of all time on the same LP. All in all, this album will hit one hard, the...

After forty-five years of leading legendary punks D.O.A., the man they call Joey Shithead aka Joe Keithley, has a new solo album out on Sudden Death Records—don’t worry, D.O.A. is still touring! Stand has a rootsy, rebellious tone, as Keithley combines acoustic and electric guitar on this timely and politically charged album. Many have compared Keithley to a modern day Woody Guthrie or Pete Seeger because he has spent a lifetime standing up for what’s right through his music and through his actions—Stand befits that ethic and long-held tradition. The songs cover a wide range of emotions. There’s timely political stuff like “The Warrior Lives Again,” “Fentanyl Blues,” “This Machine Kills Fascists,” and “Ginger Goodwin.” Poignant songs include “Lookin’,” “For A World,” “People Power,” and a cover of D.O.A.’s “2+2.” Keithley even digs into movies and TV with his spaghetti western-inspired “Man With No Name” and an ode to Star Trek called “Men For All Ages.” He really hits the mark, as he covers songs from his idols Johnny Cash, Leadbelly and Stompin’ Tom Conners. On Stand, one gets a wide array of Keithley’s talents: from his vocals that have never covered such a wide range, to his sterling guitar playing, to his powerful songwriting ability. To make sure the album had the right tone, Keithley got the right people to accompany him, which includes one of the best acoustic rhythm sections in Canada, Leon Power and Darren Parris, and also great keyboards from Chris Gestrin, with Jessie Zubot...

Culture Shock Treatment by Round Eye

Round Eye

Culture Shock Treatment
Sudden Death

With their new album Culture Shock Treatment, Round Eye, the Shanghai-based band of ex-patriots, turn their demented focus on their own place of residence, The People’s Republic of China, and fire on all cylinders. Physically released by Joey Shithead’s (D.O.A.) Sudden Death Records, Culture Shock Treatment acts as a lysergic, nightmare-drenched punk rock protest record and direct criticism of the Chinese Communist Party, shining a light on the oppression of Hong Kong and the Uygher people, Xi Jin Ping’s growing influence and power on a global scale, the Ministry of Culture and its methods of propaganda and surveillance—not seen since the cult of personality surrounding Mao Zedong during the Culture Revolution, and some comical cultural pitfalls one can experience while living in the “Pearl of the Orient.” The experimental, sax-wielding, freak punk outfit continue to accrue a loud and controversial name for themselves since forming in 2012, and has as of late been a crucial force in bridging a wide gap between the eastern and western hemispheres of DIY punk rock. Along with blazing a trail all over the globe, they’ve played host to visiting western punks and some legends as well. Culture Shock Treatment, the band’s third album and fourth release overall, continues the band’s genre bending acumen through cultural satire with great success, along with some pretty harsh levity, and, being that this release was produced by none other than Mike Watt (Minutemen) and Bill Stevenson (Descendents, Black Flag) to boot, it sounds pretty incredible as well. Captain...

Sudden Death Records are very happy to release this 1982 D.O.A. classic album in it’s original form on CD for the first time. This was D.O.A’s third album, coming on the heels of Something Better Change and Hardcore 81. It made a greater impression on punks and a wider swath of people than the band had ever reached before. One of the key tracks was their version of Edwin Starr’s giant hit “War,” (The Temptations covered this as well). This was the first time that D.O.A. had been widely played on radio across North America and Europe. The band, in the best punk / reggae spirit, really broke open some new ground for themselves with their amazing adaptation of Ranking Trevor’s “War in the East.” Of course they turn the throttle wide open with songs that have become D.O.A. mainstays like: “Liar For Hire,” “I’m Right, You’re Wrong,” “America The Beautiful,” “I Hate You,” “Let’s Fuck” and a blazing cover of The Dils “Class War.” War On 45 further cemented their reputation as one of the best to ever come along. Jack Rabid (Big Takeover Magazine) said “D.O.A. and the Bad Brains were the best punk bands to ever come out of North America and were really only comparable to the likes of The Clash, SLF and the Sex Pistols.” War On 45’s stunning front cover was created by Shawn Kerri and inside the CD, the U.K. version’s cover that was created by the ingenious Native American artist Clay Sampson...

***NEW 40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION!!! Sudden Death and DOA have gone back in time and restored one of punk’s seminal albums, Something Better Change, and reissued it on vinyl for it’s 40th anniversary. One also gets the original lyric sheet insert and the original foldout insert with pics of Joey Shithead, Chuck Biscuits, Randy Rampage and Dave Gregg.  “The product of two years of solid gigging in their native Vancouver, by the hottest punk rock band the West Coast ever produced this side of the much different Weirdos and Avengers, Something Better Change features a trio so molten, they didn’t even manage to get it all down in the studio. And yet it still is an absolutely awesome record. So heavy with chops it nearly leaks, soaring like the best Clash/Pistols/S.L.F. riffs filtered through an American anvil power even those greats couldn’t approach.”   —Jack Rabid, All Music

If an actor or a reality show host can become President and wreak havoc around the world, then surely musicians have a time honored duty of reacting to that and speaking up for regular people. Punk rock legends D.O.A. have decided to do just that. That’s the reason for the new D.O.A. album: Treason. Joey Shithead Keithley, Canada’s Godfather of Punk, has been getting sick of the dismaying news coming out of world capitals like Washington, Moscow, Beijing, Tehran, Pyongyang etc., so he decided to come up with D.O.A.’s musical reaction to this crap. So here it is: Treason—it’s the band’s eighteenth album. It takes off in full frenzy with “All The President’s Men”—“It’s time to put them in the pen.” Then the band quickly launches into a modern punk anthem, “Wait Till Tomorrow”, a look at the brutal treatment of refugees. But never lost on D.O.A. is that part of their mantra that is punk rock humor, hence they have spawned: “It Was D.O.A.”, an uproarious piss-take on unsuspecting musicians that will soon learn the tough lessons of the road: the D.O.A. members themselves. Of course with an album named Treason one would expect some comment on President Donald Trump. So the Men of Action have taken one of their all-time classics and come up with new lyrics. They have reworked “Fucked Up Ronnie”, the result is “Fucked Up Donald” and it’s a blistering 73 seconds of mayhem! There’s also an absolutely ripping version of fellow Canadian Neil Young’s...

Sudden Death is excited to announce the release of the D.O.A. album 1978. It’s a 21-track collection of never released demos, rare tracks and early singles from Canada’s punk pioneers. Joey Shithead went deep into the vault and came up with some super exciting and raw punk rock. The album title and art concept is a spike-haired nod of the head to that early, dynamic era ofthe band and to the seven great former members who have since passed on. Their spirit and talent played a huge role into launching the band into worldwide prominence. The two constants on the album are Joey and Chuck Biscuits, who play on every track. From the start of 1978 begins their wild, “I don’t give a shit” approach to punk rock. Now some forty years later one can hear it all, starting with the never-seen-the-light-of-day demo version of “The Enemy”. This demo has a different set of lyrics that speaks to fighting Nazis—strange, what is old is new and vital again. There’s a ton of exciting tracks that range from the never heard before, such as “Bored And Suicidal”, “The Mutant”, “No God No War”, “Rip Dis Joint”, “No Way Out” and “Rent-A-Riot”, to classic early singles like “Fucked Up Ronnie”, “Disco Sucks”, “World War 3”, “The Prisoner” and “13”. Also included are demo versions of “America The Beautiful” and “Liar For Hire” with Biscuits drumming, which are wildly different than the classic versions you hear on War On 45. On this collection...

Fight Back
Sudden Death

D.O.A., Canada’s legendary pioneering punks who set the bar high for punk and basically invented hardcore, are ready to rip it up on the occasion of their 40th anniversary. They have a brand new album: Fight Back, and they are embarking on a worldwide tour to support this impressive new effort, taking on all opposition and laying down a punk rock path of wild music and free thought. Their rough and ready line up is led by the godfather of hardcore, Joe Shithead Keithley (guitar, vocals), and he is more than ably accompanied by the manic rhythm section of Paddy Duddy (drums) and Corkscrew (bass). Early reviews are saying that this album is the most innovative the band has done since War On 45. Released on Keithley’s own label Sudden Death, this is a scathing and timely piece. dealing with all manner of unseemly low characters and issues. The album opens with acerbic “You Need an Ass Kickin’ Right Now,” then rips right into the startling “Killer Cops,” then smashes into the anthemic “Time To Fight Back,” which is street punk resistance at its fiercest. The band rips through the timely “Gonna Set You Straight” with violent and natural ease, same goes with the vitriolic “Just Got Back From the USA.” The album takes a funny twist with “We Won’t Drink This Piss” (down with bad corporate beer!) and “You Can’t Stop Me,” where Keithley delves into the character of Slapshot’s playing coach Reggie Dunlop, a natural alter ego perhaps!

Real McKenzies

Clash Of The Tartans
Sudden Death

Sudden Death Records is happy to announce the 20th anniversary re-release of The Real McKenzies’ Clash of the Tartans. Newly remastered, this album launched one of the most entertaining and hard working bands on the planet. Led by legendary front man Paul McKenzie, these kilt-wearin’ madmen cement mix-up punk with Scottish traditional music—in fact, some critics credit them for inventing this now-popular hybrid. This album is the band’s finest effort to date: once the needle hits the groove it’s a non-stop party where scotch and ale are rapidly guzzled. From the rousing opening track “Stone Of Kings” to the wild “Thistle Boy,” they combine power and some of the catchiest hooks this side of Glasgow. The third track is the now classic “Mainland,” and from there the album rages on with stirring anthems like “Will Ye Be Proud” and “To The Battle.” There’s also a ripping version of “Auld Lang Syne.” Robbie Burns, the Bard of Ayrshire, would heartily endorse this slab of vinyl!

Twenty-two years running Whidbey Island, WA’s Potbelly are at it again with their new full length Test Of Time. For this album, their normal beer swillin’ and sexual debauchery is left in the past; instead, they leap forward with songs speaking out against police brutality, gang violence, racism, rape, and Trump’s new version of Amerikkka. Still, some of their nerdy fun reappears in songs “I Love Star Wars More Than I Love You,” and horror-punk murder ballad “Defining Moments.” The real stars of the show, however, are anthems “United Underground” and “Wear Black.” Thrash-punk crossover madness.

Round Eye, China’s only adopted punk sons, the legends of freakish sax-wielding rock and roll experimentation, have signed to Canada’s infamous and longest running base of punk operations Sudden Death Records to release their newest album Monstervision, along with two critically acclaimed music videos, featured on the album: the anti-Trump’s America “Billy” and “Sifter,” which was entirely filmed in a carnival in Pyongyang, North Korea, making it the very first punk rock video filmed in the DPRK! On this masterpiece, the madmen of Shanghai team up with TV personality and former The Daily Show comedian Joe Bob Briggs (John Bloom) to present to the bizarro world formerly called Earth a new list of “alternative facts” to scratch your ass to. Monstervision—a nod to the beloved late-night TV show that featured cult horror movie classics—marks the final recorded performances of the late great Steve Mackay (saxman for Iggy Pop and the Stooges / Violent Femmes) and has appearances by Chinese rock giants Kang Mao of SUBS and music by 70s NYC punk vets The Fleshtones; all this with a ghoulish serving of narration and story telling by the true rose of the trailer park: Joe Bob Briggs himself.

World War 3
Sudden Death

In 1979, DOA teamed up with Ron Obvious and Bob Rock at a midnight-to-6:00-A.M. studio session at Vancouver’s Little Mountain Sound to record and mix, on a shoestring budget, what is arguably one of the top ten punk rock singles of all time. Penned by guitarist / singer Joey Shithead and drummer Chuck Biscuits, and helped along by bassist Randy Rampage, “World War 3” really hit the mark for the times, starkly criticizing the US–Soviet nuclear arms race. Sadly, 37 years later things in the world are not any better. Music can still speak the truth. The B-side “Whatcha Gonna Do?” features Biscuits’s all-star drumming and Shithead’s songwriting in a Jamaican- inspired departure for the young DOA. Sudden Death is proud to rerelease this gem by Canada’s punk pioneers on vinyl for the first time in 37 years in a strictly limited edition.

You can dressup a pig, but in the end you realize it’s really just Donald Trump.” D.O.A. arranged a quick recording session with producer Cecil English (D.O.A., No Means No, Jello Biafra) and recorded this single in about fifteen minutes, a vitriolic take-off harkening to the band’s ’80s catalog. The now-released video has three million hits and counting—it just goes to show that you can’t keep a good band down. A healthy dose of “gonna kick you in the ass” punk, coupled with real conviction, Fucked Up Donald confirms D.O.A. will never stop taking on real crap that affects the entire world.

Fucked Up Donald (Digital Version)
Sudden Death

Can it get worse before it gets better? Good question? D.O.A., Canada’s punk pioneers think it can get worse. So that’s why they have re-visited one of their classic tunes.  The end result is a blazing 85 second punk rock commentary on Donald Trump, not so surprisingly entitled Fucked Up Donald. D.O.A., one of the top protest bands of all time take the Donald to task for anti-Mexican, anti-women, stances amongst his many other egregious ill-informed opinions. The end result will make the hairs on the back of your neck stand up.  Joe Shithead Keithley, Paddy Duddy and Mike Hodsall, the Men of Action, obviously were ready, as they slammed this frantic piece of “Let’s fight this bullshit!” down in 15 minutes flat with producer Cecil English (No Means No, D.O.A., Jello Biafra, The Smalls) The B side. B side? Funny in a download sense, but just as necessary in a moral sense, is D.O.A.’s version of Barry McGuire’s immortal Eve of Destruction. It’s hard hitting and of course very timely as well.

Audio Visceral is all about earnest, catchy, energetic punk rock. The music is raw and upbeat, the songs are short and bittersweet. Influenced by everything from surf to hardcore, the members of A/V are all veterans of the Ontario underground / punk rock scene. Steve Beauchesne (formerly of Constable Brennan) is best known as the co-founder and CEO of Beau’s All Natural Brewing Co., but in A/V he handles guitars and lead vocals. Focusing on driving rhythms instead of extravagant guitar solos, his playing is refreshingly simple and catchy, and his bracing vocals transition seamlessly from melancholy to silly to rage-filled. The fingers of Kevin James (formerly of Bender and The Almighty Trigger Happy) stroll deftly over his bass strings, providing propulsion and structure to the hooks. This commotion is pushed from behind by the frenetic drumming of Gary Doherty (formerly of The Almighty Trigger Happy and Headcramp). Audio Visceral’s debut LP Cildce Bihaver (pronounced “Childish Behavior”) is on Sudden Death Records. Produced by Ian Blurton (Public Animal, Change of Heart), it slams in ten snotty, poppy punk tunes in under twenty-two minutes. No ballads here—every one bobs heads and bends ears. Controversial artist Jonathan Hobin is directing a video to accompany the track “Frannie.”

Hard Rain Falling by DOA

DOA

Hard Rain Falling
Sudden Death

DOA is back with a vengeance! It looked like Canada’s legendary punk pioneers were going to hang it up, as Joe “Shithead” Keithley, the godfather of hardcore, sought political office in Canada, but that didn’t happen this time. So look at it this way, the political world’s loss is the music world’s gain, because DOA has a brand new full-length, Hard Rain Falling, which Sudden Death Records is very pleased to release. It’s DOA’s sixteenth studio album. When Keithley set out to write the songs for the album, he used DOA’s early efforts like Hardcore 81, Something Better Change and War on 45 as a bit of template, in the sense that the songs should be short, fast and right to the point. The end result is great, likely their best album since War on 45. Keithley’s lyrics take on a wide range of modern and horrible screwups, from racism to street gangs to war to environmental degradation. With all of that in mind, Shithead and his infamous henchmen Paddy Duddy (drums) and Mike Maggot (bass) went into the studio with fire in their bellies and with the goal of making a kick-ass album. It worked—Hard Rain Falling is a great effort from one of the world’s most influential and inspirational bands.

Churning out their brand of punk rock ’n’ roll for nearly half a decade, Guelph, Ontario’s The Nasties have quickly overtaken the world of steely, aggressive, turbocharged music. Signing to legendary punk staple DOA’s Sudden Death Records, the band presents their inaugural full-length album Discipline. These 14 tunes range from the ’77 attitude of the title track through pelvic rocker “Plumber,” hyperactive “Sky Is Falling,” undulating “Empty Revenge” and steely, menacing “Negativity.” Discipline reaches as far back as the genre’s formative years, pushing the worlds of punk, rock ’n’ roll and metal into a lifelong mandate and uniting disparate foundations of originality and familiarity. With inspiration from DOA, Dayglo Abortions, SNFU, Misfits, Hellacopters, Dead Kennedys, New Bomb Turks, Razor and the inimitable Motörhead, The Nasties sprout from humble beginnings to create their own Royal City sound.  Featuring members of underground Canadian punk mainstays including Forgotten Rebels, Maximum RNR, Maggot Fodder, Tirekickers and more, Discipline showcases a deep-rooted adoration for grinding guitar riffs, politically fired lyrics and beastly, thunderous drums, all set to pulsating rhythms, unrivaled dynamism and guttural attack. It’s working. Baring teeth smeared with blood and instruments caked with liquor, sweat and enthusiasm, The Nasties’ virulent energy has resulted in over 250 performances with genre heroes including Gwar, C.J. Ramone, Glen Matlock, Meatmen, Hanson Brothers, Vibrators, Forgotten Rebels, DOA, SNFU, Dayglo Abortions and more. A sold-out debut EP, revered international showcases—not to mention universal recognition as purveyors of the party atmosphere—consistently yields ravenously boisterous crowd appreciation and involvement.

Ese hails from Houston, Texas. They are a rough-and-tumble outfit from the streets. When they hit the stage, everyone can tell they mean business. That’s exactly what Sudden Death’s Joey Shithead saw when Ese opened for D.O.A. a few years back. He exclaimed, “Wow, Ese is like the Tex-Mex Motörhead—they blew the doors off of that joint.”  About a year later, Shithead saw Ese again in Texas. The band stomped their proverbial stomping grounds in such a menacing way, he happily agreed to sign them to Sudden Death. The end result is Ese’s new album All In. It’s a wild and unbridled marriage of rock ’n’ roll and punk that has not been seen for some time. From the kicking opening track “Badass Fatass” to “Ghetto Ese Style,” these boys mash power riffs nonstop into your cranium. You’ll be screaming for more, and that’s what you get as they blaze through “Pissed Off,” “Texas Guns” and the saucy “Guacamole (Texas Tornados).” Ese will kick your ass with All In, one of the rawest and best rock ’n’ roll albums of 2015.

Don't Turn Yer Back (on Desperate Times) by DOA

DOA

Don't Turn Yer Back (on Desperate Times)
Sudden Death

DOA did their first full-on tour of the UK and Europe in 1984. It was gruel-a-thon: 50 shows in 60 days in 10 different countries. At the end, the band was about to return to Vancouver when they got an offer from the BBC to record a “live in the studio” session. So, the day before the flight home, Canada’s punk pioneers paid a visit to BBC Headquarters in London. Steel Pulse was just finishing up their session before DOA took over the studio and reeled off an explosive four-song set for the UK’s top DJ John Peel. During the ten-hour session, the Men of Action recorded “General Strike,” “Race Riot,” “Season in Hell” and “Burn It Down.” It was an exhilarating end to a groundbreaking tour on which the band that coined the term “hardcore” showcased what punk rock could be. As Joe “Shithead” Keithley, Canada’s punk godfather, recalled, “The BBC session was fucking great, we were really excited; and then at two minutes to midnight, the studio time was up, a really old BBC janitor unceremoniously kicked us out of the studio, and we were back out on street as usual!” The band dedicated the EP to striking miners around the world (there were a lot of mine strikes in the cold winter of 1984). Sudden Death is stoked to reissue this 12-inch for the first time in 30 years. Enjoy this tribute to workers all around the world.

Seen Not Herd by Wolfpack

Wolfpack

Seen Not Herd
Sudden Death

Melbourne not-for-profit, DIY punk rock juggernaut Wolfpack is hitting the road again, this time for the release of their debut album Seen Not Herd. Known for their manic live shows and relentless work ethic, the band has raised over $13,000 for charity since their inception in November, 2011. The latest recording will again be a benefit release, this time with all proceeds from sales going to Victorian Dog Rescue.  Seen Not Herd is a scathing, nine-track attack targeting consumerism, apathy and moral decay so genuine in its delivery it caught the attention of punk rock pioneer Joey Shithead of DOA fame, who is releasing the record via Sudden Death Records, home to some major punk stalwarts such as The Damned, Sham 69, Vice Squad, Mojo Nixon and The Real McKenzies. Touring relentlessly, Wolfpack has established themselves as an act to watch, sharing the stage with international luminaries DRI, Corrosion of Conformity, Guitar Wolf, Subhumans, The Casualties, The Business, MDC, Guttermouth, CKY and more. The band took their blistering, road-hardened form into the studio, tracking and mixing with Julian Renzo at Legion Productions before world-renowned engineer Howie Weinberg mastered the record.

Modernettes were pop / punk phenoms from Vancouver, Canada—a city Jack Rabid of The Big Takeover magazine claims had the greatest undiscovered punk / new wave scene of the late ’70s and early ’80s. This is the first time the group’s debut release has been reissued in its original format since 1979. Produced by the legendary Bob Rock in his seminal days, Teen City delivers six classic anthems ranging from the über-catchy “Barbra” (chorus: “B-A-R-B-R-A, Barbra”) to the teen-angst-tinged “Confidential” to the cool of “Celebrity Crackup.”

You Are You by Subs

Subs

You Are You
Sudden Death

At the center of China’s burgeoning rock scene is Beijing, and in the middle of the capital’s underground is Subs, a 100% DIY punk unit with a cult domestic following. Subs vocalist Kang Mao and guitarist Wu Hao met in 1997 while at university in the central Chinese industrial city of Wuhan, where they were both deeply involved in the then-burgeoning punk rock scene (Wu playing guitar in hardcore band Shit Dog, Kang running unlicensed DIY punk venue Boys Toys). The two moved to China’s underground music mecca, Beijing, in 2001, starting Subs the next year.  Since forming, Subs has become one of China’s most established and popular underground rock bands, cementing their position at the top of the heap with the jagged-edged garage punk rippers of their debut LP, Down (2006). Throughout their career, Subs has by choice remained the only band of its stature in China to maintain complete independence, booking all of their shows (including domestic and European tours) and releasing all of their records without a middleman despite having no alternate source of income. Undergoing several lineup changes over the years, in 2014 Subs stripped down to a three-piece, with Texas native Josh Feola (ex-Chui Wan, Mind Eraser) stepping behind the drums. They self-released their latest full-length, You Are You, in March 2014, shedding a bit of their overdriven punk edge to experiment with new wave, post-punk, psych and electronic influences that have seeped in over the years. Sudden Death is proud to make this...

Love & Politics by Jenny

Jenny

Love & Politics
Sudden Death

Sudden Death Records is delighted to present the new Jenny album Love & Politics.  The explosive four-piece, hailing from Calgary, Canada, adroitly combines tales of love, politics and—perhaps—the Canadian soul itself. Their blend of heartfelt folk and riveting punk offers simply four chords and the truths.  “I shared a stage with Jenny last year at The Palomino in Calgary; I had no idea what to expect. An hour later I knew that they were the best live band I had seen in years. The sheer raw energy and spontaneous fun they generated was amazing; when you combine that with their stellar songwriting and the vibe between them and the audience, there was only one choice. As soon as the show was over I offered to sign them to the label.” —Joe Keithley, Sudden Death Records / DOA  “Jenny has virtually come out of nowhere to make a knockout album, could be on of the best of 2013, by my count, a solid four stars.” —Barry Weiss, New Alt Press

***SHF (a.k.a. Shit From Hell) came together in 2005 after a couple of beer-soaked rehearsals in a Toronto industrial park. Known as the “Fury’s Hour Sessions,” the recordings revealed that, with enough anger, divorce, betrayal, children, riot-police confrontations, heart surgery and Facebook-and-Jesus songs, SFH had the potential to be a decent band. The group released their eponymous debut later that year, followed up by Wheel of Wow in 2007. In 2008, bassist / singer Winkie (Warren Kinsella, formerly of Social Blemishes and Hot Nasties) and guitarist / singer The Rayman (Derek Raymaker) were joined by new guitarist / singer Ritalin Boy (Rolf Dinsdale, formerly of The Thin Line and Dancing Wu Li Masters), followed in 2009 by new drummer Davey Snot (David Schiller). Driven by their shared love of chicken wings and Captain Beefheart, SFH steadily improved their decibels, lyrics and hooks. SFH honed its live chops with memorable shows, including backing Can-rock legends Teenage Head, and supporting that band’s Frankie Venom at Hamilton’s Festival of Friends in his last live show before succumbing to cancer. The band regularly holds court at Toronto’s Bovine Sex Club, getting a thumbs-up from Replacements / Guns ’n’ Roses bassist Tommy Stinson. Why Do You Hate Me?, SFH’s third album and first on Sudden Death, includes the tracks “Double Bubble Trouble,” about the infamous confrontation between a Toronto Police constable arresting a peaceful protester for blowing bubbles at 2010’s G20 Summit, and “Jesus Got Wood,” which is on the soundtrack to the feature film...

Sudden Death

Sudden Death Records is ecstatic to announce the release of We Come in Peace, the new studio album from Canada’s legendary punk pioneers. DOA’s 14th studio album takes a determined political stance with the songs “We Occupy,” “Dirty Bastards,” “We’re Bloodied But Unbowed” and a cover of Toxic Reasons’ classic “War Hero.” We Come in Peace also features a heavy slice of ska, reggae and dub with tracks like “Walk Through This World.” You’ll also get your head ripped clean off on the crushing anthems “Boneyard,” “Bring Out Your Dead” and “Who the Hell Do You Think You Are.”  Canada’s godfather of hardcore punk Joe Keithley also got some cool friends to sing on the record—Jello Biafra, Ben Kowalewicz (Billy Talent) and Hugh Dillon (Headstones)—and DOA also recorded a great version of The Beatles’ “Revolution.” It’s now a real barnburner! Already drawing early raves, We Come In Peace is a soon-to-be classic DOA release.

The godfathers of hardcore DOA have teamed up with their pal Jello Biafra to produce an anthem for our age. The first single from the band’s new studio album We Come in Peace, “We Occupy,” perhaps surprisingly to the uninitiated, is an upbeat, ska-based tune, with plenty of DOA rock guitar to power it along.  But it’s the lyrics that really make it shake. Punk pioneer Joe “Shithead” Keithley, a big backer of Occupy Wall Street, tells it like it is—we’re getting ripped off by the greedy and powerful. Keithley asked his longtime friend Biafra to sing on the song. The former Dead Kennedys vocalist, no stranger to taking on pompous asses and authority, quickly agreed. The combo is powerful and timely.  The exclusive B-side “Who the Hell Do You Think You Are” was written at the behest of playwright Michael Scholar, whose play Hardcore Logo: Live is an adaptation of Michael Turner’s underground classic book Hardcore Logo (also a film by Bruce McDonald). Keithley took the lyrics in Turner’s book about a fictional punk rock band and came up with a beery, sing-along number—an instant punk rock classic.

The Vagabond Sessions Split
Sudden Death

***One night in a heavily treed area in the wilds of the Pacific Northwest came a gathering of sound and fury! That was the night that Canada’s legendary DOA pulled out all the stops with their comrades POTBELLY—Oak Harbor, Washington’s fast-rising punk band. Hundreds of rabid fans crammed into a converted storage locker they call Vagabond. The kids were wild in this strange setting and it seemed protected by a force field, so their pagan rituals went undetected by the Oak Harbor police in this conservative Air Force town. Potbelly wailed away and the session was recorded on a 16-track recording desk. Then DOA appeared out of the fog and chopped everyone in their path with classic songs like “I Hate You,” “To Hell ’n’ Back,” “Fuck You” and “Fucked Up Ronnie.” It was an evening not to be forgotten and this limited-edition 12-inch slab of vinyl makes sure it won’t be. The session will not be released on CD and there are only 1,000 available and it will not be repressed. If you love rock, get it now!
