"Their debut album, which bears the name of the band and has 6 tracks and 41 minutes long in total, is a high-flying alchemical fusion with echoes of the past and a transcendental look into the future. From the first seconds of the opening track of the album, 'Sky Input I' gives the flavor and rhythm of the classic self-titled album Neu! Atmospheric base with deep bass and time that goes in crescendo meets a guitar that howls, scream and whisper into an ecstatic trance that invites for an intense, but languid meditation. This formula is repeated in the second part of the cut and on the mesmerizing jams 'Loop' and 'Directo al Sol', which reaches a powerful sonic climax. ***Land in the Sky is an album by architect ALFREDO THIERMANN (formerly of FOLLAKZOID) and musician TRES WARREN of PSYCHIC ILLS. It is the result of an extended sonic conversation between them that developed over the course of two years while both resided in different parts of the world. It is a friendship with a strong emphasis on sonic exchanges rather than other forms of communication. It was recorded in each of their domestic spaces and studios in Santiago de Chile and New York City—separate from one another and sent via email. The music came together without prior discussion of direction. The four 10-minute long tracks are the traces of their exchange of various emotional and mental states. They are prolonged and repetitive meditations composed by simple shapes and forms that almost act as a primitive language. ***It’s interesting the developments that VUELVETELOCA has taken since its founding nearly 10 years ago. When presenting their fourth LP, practically the only remaining that are left from that era are energy and good connection between pals DE IRUARRIZAGA and TOMAS OLIVOS, the founders and permanent members, carrying the flag of the band all these years. And while they continue to reinforce that connection, the band has managed to remade themselves dealing with their past adding the artwork of their former vocalist Gonzalo Laguna and in music going back to the garage sounds of the first album (BYM001). In that sense it’s necessary to recognize the contribution of drummer JUAN MANUEL GILI from DIAS DE CALOR, adding rhythm and cadence to the work of the guitars and vocals. With Pantera, Vuelveteloca's fourth album, the band manages to highlight and exploit its best attributes for a strong sound, coherent with their past and yet new. The 9 songs that make the record are able to combine passages of dark and heavy rock, agile rhythms and pop melodies in a space rock roller-coaster, redefining the party-rave vibe of the previous albums. ***At the beginning of the 2000s the boiling Santiago underground rock scene was emerging with bands such as The Ganjas, Yajaira and Guiso for naming a few, after a long time of grunge, pop and hip-hip ruling the streets, with the world saying goodbye to the brit-pop period and saluting the widely popular DJ’ing era. By that time the interest in the dark psychedelia and rock and roll remained intact in a group of people that knew what to do and what-not-to-do, and grew up with the power of a bad seed and with the energy of ravers and punks out in the streets. This echoed with othermade an echo on other rock retro acts of the 2000’s but never with the howling rage and he anxiety that was guiding the sons of the silent during the Chilean dictatorship. Tsunamis was formed in Santiago after the breaking up of the chilean shoegazers Solar and leaded by the charismatic “Goli” on the vocals, reminding us of Iggy Pop and Bobby Hecksher from The Warlocks. In some points the music burst from a clearly garage and punk influence, showing a powerful construction under mid-tones and piercing guitars, but the album also has psych rock ballads, as well as some nihilistic and blistering songs.
