In Dust We Trust by Sexpill

Sexpill

In Dust We Trust
Beach Impediment

***There's something to be said about the great state/nation/planet of Texas and it's ability to seemingly ooze vicious hardcore punk from the cracks of the land mass it claims. After a series of demos and storied live performances home and elsewhere over the course of nearly a decade, SEXPILL gives us In Dust We Trust—the band's first venture onto the 12" format. Each slab harnesses twelve tracks of belligerent and noisy hardcore punk, capturing Houston's finest at their most maniacal to date, featuring brand new tracks flanked by some reimagined fan favorites from the earlier mentioned demo days. IN DUST WE TRUST. IN DUST WE MUST.

Iron Knowledge by NOX

NOX

Iron Knowledge
Snax

***OBNOX is dead, long live NOX! Cleveland guitarist/vocalist Lamont Thomas has officially changed the name of his long running no-fi Afropunk / Hip-Hop hybrid OBNOX to its longtime nickname NOX—and it makes sense. With almost a decade and a half behind him since he stepped out from behind the drum kit (he made his bones as the rhythmic spine for incendiary Ohio outfits like Bassholes and This Moment in Black History), Thomas has grown well beyond the childish punk posture of valuing obnoxiousness for it’s own sake—as have many of us, right? Right? But we’ve ALL taken our share of knocks by now. Under the new name, Thomas is, for the first time ever, independently self-releasing his new album Iron Knowledge, the long-brewing follow-up to 2020’s sprawling, face melting, aggressively genre-agnostic 2xLP Savage Raygun, the damn near perfect album for the most messed up year of our lives. Iron Knowledge keeps forging ahead with Thomas’ heavy alloy of garage-punk, gospel, psych, soul, and electronics, enshrouded as always in a heavy dusting of Midwest rust. Slow-burners like “They Power” and “She Was a Bully” (respectively beat-doctored by acclaimed producers Aaron “A-Live” Snorton of Muamin Collective and Ra Washington of Mourning [A] BLKstar) feel laid-back even as they absolutely SEETHE. On Iron Knowledge’s hip-hop-leaning side, “Most High (God Body)” avails NOX of the flow talents of guest rapper Maxwell Shell, while “Instant Extra” adorns left-field rap with an industrial edge. Cuts like “Cold Piece” and “Blow” deliver classically ominous NOX garage-soul, with...

***These short minutes of hardcore music are violent, dismal and intensely angry. In a statement of intent, Kevlar Upper had this to say: “The goal for this band is to be as primitive as possible, this really reflects in the lyrics. No elevation. No frills. Just a seething, spitting stream of consciousness.” Fighting music indeed. 200 copies on green shells housed in a standard J-card sleeve and a black norelco box. Recorded by Mike Kriebel. Mastered by Will Killingsworth.

Hot February Night by Hamburger, Neil

Hamburger, Neil

Hot February Night
Drag City

***Who says there are no second-acts in show-biz? The same person who claimed there’s no crying in comedy, probably—and NEIL HAMBURGER has proven him wrong once again. Left for dead more than once in a career that has spanned literal decades, Neil is back on top and waiting for that next wave that will supposedly pull him under again. In 2007, Neil Hamburger experienced what some would call the high point of his career to date, playing Madison Square Garden and other big arenas of performance infamy all around the United States. This was no miracle; after all, people weren’t coming to see Neil; he was opening for popular rock act Tenacious D. Once the crowds heard some of his classic routines, however, Neil gained a great deal of exposure—exposed once again as America’s Funnyman in front of roaring crowds of Americans. Naturally, there were a few bad apples in the barrel, and Neil did what any professional would do—slaying the hecklers with their own sword of crass, unmannered profanity. Now it’s your turn—fire up the hi-fi and place this special phonograph LP on the platter. Then mix a couple drinks and listen to America’s Funnyman, Neil Hamburger, as he lives and dies the comedy life that all the greats have lived, too. Hot February Night is truly a brush with greatness. What will Neil do for an encore? No Export to Europe.

***Centripetal Force announces the release of Patrick Sansone’s Infinity Mirrors, a collection of six ambient instrumentals recorded on a variety of synthesizers from Sansone’s vintage collection. The album is being presented in a 350 copy vinyl pressing. The album will also be available digitally. The release date for Infinity Mirrors is March 1, 2024. Patrick Sansone is a Nashville based multi-instrumentalist, composer, music producer, and photographer. He is also a member of Wilco, The Autumn Defense, and Mellotron Variations. Infinity Mirrors is his first album as a solo artist. Sansone’s interest in synthesizers goes back to his teens in the 1980s when he was afforded the benefits and luxury of time, time to simply discover and enjoy the pure pleasures of sound. Meridian, Mississippi in the mid-eighties wasn’t exactly a synthesizer kind of town, but he did manage to get his hands on a Korg Polysix and an Arp Axxe and spent solitary hours creating sounds and blissing out. It was a foundational experience, one that has led to a life long passion for collecting and playing vintage synthesizers. Some of Patrick’s favorites utilized in Infinity Mirrors include the Roland Jupiter-8, MiniMoog Model D, and Sequential Circuits Prophet-10, as well as the modern Mellotron D4000 and Teenage Engineering OP1 The ideas behind what have become Infinity Mirrors have been brewing for several years. Patrick’s plan had always been to use his ever growing stable of synthesizers in some sort of project, but it wasn't until 2017 that these ideas really started...

***Devon Ross made her musical debut in September 2023, releasing her first ever recorded single, the stunning song "Swim" to swooning fans, and followed it up with a sultry and high energy tune entitled "Killer" in December 2023 in advance of her very first concert which took place at London's legendary 100 CLUB on December 13, 2023. Inspired by '60s and '70s legends, such as The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Patti Smith, Bob Dylan, The Stooges and Television, Devon Ross is finally debuting her first four recordings on the forthcoming EP, entitled Oxford Gardens. Oxford Gardens was recorded in Paris and mixed and mastered at Abbey Road Studios in London and set for release on Thurston & Eva Moore's indie record label, The Daydream Library Series. "When she's not stalking the catwalk as a Gucci model or acting in the likes of HBO's Irma Vep, Devon Ross can be found thrashing out '70s-vibed post-punk on a Fender Mustang. A guitar player since childhood, Ross' angular chord stabs are indebted to Patti Smith and Television, but her effortless cool cuts its own sonic figure."—Guitar World Magazine

Forcefully Rearranged
No Coast

***Sleazy synth-pop electronica from Los Angeles. Known for their intense personas, chaotic live show, incredibly hooky and memorable tracks, and their downright dirty t-shirt designs/music videos. Patriarchy turned a lot of heads performing at major electronic/goth festivals such as Substance, Verboden, Terminus, Grauzone, Sanctum, and after touring the US, Europe and Canada relentlessly for the past few years. The band will be performing at Cruel World Festival in LA in May 2024, and they are touring Europe in April 2024. More American dates to follow.. This is the band at their heaviest and features the most pounding electronics they've produced to date thanks to collaborates from The Soft Moon, Xavier Swafford, Kris Baha, Pixel Grip, Choke Chain, Baby Magick, Odonis Odonis, Houses of Heaven, Automelodi and Street Fever. ***After years of silence, Pura Mania make a surprise return! The band shares members between Vancouver, Canada, and Ciudad de Mexico. Despite the distance and borders between them, Pura Manía breaks through with their signature brand of upbeat, anthemic punk, picking up right where their previous LP left off. Three new singalong songs take influence from '80s punk from Spain to Rikk Agnew's All By Myself 12" as well as classic Oi! and a curveball Screamers cover that the band manages to make their own. In the spirit of DIY punk and international punk solidarity, this is a split release between CV Records (Mexico) and Discos Peligrosos (Japan). Covers screen printed in Mexico.

***Tongue Depressor (New Haven, CT) is the duo of Zach Rowden and Henry Birdsey. They write, improvise, and perform drone-based music with fiddles, pedal steel, lap steel, contrabass, organ, and bells, usually involving micro- tonal tunings and rearranged /retuned fragments of American church music. Austin Larkin (New Haven, CT) uses elements of tone, interstices of fields, asymmetries, and patterns. Performance and practice informed by re- search into dimensions of vibrating bodies. On this recording Tongue Depressor and Austin Larkin have combined to record what they had been practicing on the road live across the US together. Henry Birdsey (TD) plays bagpipes and lap steel. Zach Rowden (TD) plays violin and tapes. Austin Larkin plays viola and sirens (which he himself constructed and are a story unto themselves). Soothing sounds give way to unsettling / unnerving feelings when the sirens find their way through meditative loops.

***What we don't have here is "Omelette Punk," or "Country-Rawk," or ANYTHING but stripped-down ROCK'N'ROLL from Missouri's STILL ANIMALS. The 10 tracks on this eponymous debut are short, and to the point. In a perfect world, real kids everywhere are dancing to it on real radios while ditching real lame study hall, and they Look Kool doin’ it. This is the sound of St. Louis: the city's lead and limestone from a dead era, revitalized, and without a lick of gentrification. A couple of the cats here picked up their axes for the first time for this band, and the others cut their teeth touring with some excellent punk and hardcore combos. "Still Animals" fully represents uncharted territory for this crew, and it sounds to Slovenly like they were born to kill in their simplicity and ineptitude. We demand they don't get any "better" (it's in the contract). Album recorded by Andy Peterson (HOME & OFFICE, TRAUMA HARNESS, LUMPY AND THE DUMPERS) in a 130 year old limestone Mound City basement.

***Slovenly Recordings selects GOB PSYCHIC from Aarhus, Denmark’s buzzing underground. Inspired by the endless wave of Melbourne punk rock since Melbourne began punk rocking, as well as oddball sounds from the Midwestern U.S.A, the Gob Psychic spin is just as abrasive, aggressive and compelling as anyone’s music that put them on this warpath. Their debut “Rent Payer” 7inch reeks of alienation, and an apathetic stance on having to put their pants on one leg a time to get to earn some green and worthless workplace accolades, but they’ve managed to jump in to this sonic ferocity with both appendages, claws extended. The songs were recorded in a 2-day-session at Sauna Studios with Neil R. Young filling in the roles of producer and recording engineer, with Jeppe Grønbæk Andersen on mixing duties and added instrumentation.

Dark Entries flashes back to the grimy streets of New York City circa 1982 to bring us an unreleased album from cult outfit Ike Yard. Comprised of Stuart Argabright, Michael Diekmann, Kenneth Compton, and Fred Szymanski, Ike Yard sits between the sinewy proto-body music of the Neue Deutsche Welle and the shattered grooves of their No Wave peers in New York. The band’s initial run was short but blinding. They released an EP for Les Disques du Crépuscule in 1981, which was followed by their legendary self-titled LP for Factory in 1982. They disbanded within a year, frustrated by the slow pace at which the industry was able to release their increasingly challenging music. 1982 features 10 tracks which likely would have become the band’s second LP—only four of these songs have previously seen release on 2006’s 1980-82 Collected via Acute Records. Following the release of Ike Yard, they continued down their tortured path of hybrid electro-acoustic music with an arsenal of now-classic analog instruments, including the Korg MS-20 and the Roland TR-808. Skittering rhythms teeter on the verge of collapse while seasick synth warbles threaten to push us overboard. Electronic washes devolve into waves of feedback. Sneering basslines threaten dancers to move, but how can the body obey? This is dangerous music, gliding along the brink. The album features a live photo of the band by Makoto Iida and includes an insert with liner notes from Stuart Argabright. 1982 is essential for fans of post-punk and caustic electronics from...

Gobs on the Midway - Singles 1991-95 by Strapping Fieldhands

Strapping Fieldhands

Gobs on the Midway - Singles 1991-95
Maize-y

A first-time on vinyl reissue of the band's early singles (1991 - 1995) collected together on one album, originally released as a CD by Siltbreeze in 1996. Remastered by Aussie knobs legend Mikey Young with a new fuller sound. The record is pressed on 180gm choice vinyl and features lyrics and photos of the singles on the inner sleeve. "Gobs on the Midway collects some of the earliest small-format output of Philadelphia’s mighty Strapping Fieldhands, and this first ever vinyl edition serves as both the single best place for a novice to dive in or a handy device for old fans with either too little patience for endless side-flipping or a lack of operational cd player. You can track the band's evolution in chronological order, from their beginnings as a duo crafting creaky acoustic Appalachian Gothic to the double-drumming, boozily romantic swirling psych pop monster they became. Each and every song is a glorious jumble of the haphazard and the innovative, bound by dazed melodies and the knowledge that nobody else could possibly sound like them. Includes printed inner with Bob Malloy's lyrical magic for all to behold."—Max Milgram

***Radio Heat is the sophomore album from Desiree Cannon and a step further into her world of constellations, waterways, and cosmic omens. Like her debut LP, Beach Sleeper, the album is a cohesive, yet diverse collection of songs that each act as a doorway to access the sonic multiverse of the record. You could step into the album through the dark, Lynchian ballad Latigo, the sparkling surf-inspired track Tower, or the modern, heartworn waltz Fault Line, and each would serve as a proper introduction into Desiree’s vibrant, intentional collection of songs. The album is unified around the core concept of Radio Heat—a collective electrical energy that is perpetually transferring human emotions through space and time, and our ability to transform that energy through acts of beauty, intention, and art. In this way, Radio Heat as a concept and an album transmutes pain—in its many guises—into song. While Cannon’s country influences and songwriting inspirations are interwoven throughout the album, Radio Heat stretches to include a multitude of musical styles, and is ultimately a soundtrack for the present day, looking towards a future where grief is shed and beauty abounds.

***Shasta is the product of an experiment in limitations and creative self-control. Recorded with solar power on a Tascam 388 and remaining true to only the 8 available tracks, these sessions were often late nights around the wood stove in a small hillside studio in Big Sur. The sessions resulted in Levi’s most tender record to date; sung low and slow with vocals and acoustic guitar up front, and trading the double tracked guitar solos of earlier albums for syrupy pedal steel and piano. Ravedeath 1972 by Hecker, Tim

Hecker, Tim

Ravedeath 1972
Kranky

TIM HECKER’s latest work approaches a form of secular musical transcendentalism from within the battered temple of spirituality. Recorded in a church in Reykjavik, Iceland and using a pipe organ as the primary sound source, this new piece is essentially a live recording. In reality, it exists in a nether world between captured live performance and meticulous studio work, melding the two approaches to sonic artifice as a unity. It is in parts a document of air circulating within a wooden room, and also a pagan work of physical resonance within a space once reserved for the hallowed breath of the divine. While the title of the piece “Hatred of Music” might be a clue, the album is also partly an attempt to confront a pervasive negativity surrounding music. Historical rituals of destroying pianos, mountains of pirated CDRs pushed by bulldozers in Eastern Europe, or the melancholy of the digital music era began as sideline motifs which quickly informed the work on this record. They also really didn't at all. Despite that the context is wide open in such a form of musical abstraction, the substance of these immersive compositions showcases Heckerʼs continued mastery of organizing sound into a visceral near entity. It is an almost physical presence that the listener feels as much as hears. This work is a significant contribution to Hecker's oeuvre, one which spans over ten years of musical production. Ravedeath is an enigmatic document of beauty and force. The album was recorded mostly over the...

Harmony In Ultraviolet
Kranky

This is the first proper vinyl release for TIM HECKER’s breakthrough 2006 album. At the time of original issue, there was a small run of a few hundred vinyl copies done by a small German label, but this was pressed on an inferior sounding single LP which was much too short for the length of the album, not to mention the wide dynamic range of the recording. This new version is mastered at 45rpm over four sides for maximum sound quality. "The whole album moves with a sort of barely-contained violence that threatens to disintegrate or burst tracks into flame outs at nearly any point. it's powerful and intense ambient music that really doesn't sound like anything else being created right now."—Almost Cool

***NOW AVAILABLE ON VINYL!!! The union of composers Lawrence English and loscil aka Scott Morgan is seamless, sublime, and long overdue. Born of a conversation centered on the notion of “rich sources” as a forge for electronic music, Colours Of Air is a collection of recordings of a century old pipe organ housed at the historic Old Museum in Brisbane, Australia, which were then processed, transformed, and elevated into eight majestic electro-acoustic threshold devotionals. The timbre of the instrument and spatial fluctuations of room tone infuse the music with a subdued, sacred feel, like vaulted light in a nave of stained glass. They describe the album as “an iterative project, a reduction and eventual expansion,” sifting the swells and drones of the organ for every shivering shade of radiance. The tracks are named for the hue each piece suggests—from the gauzy levitational miasma of “Yellow” to the pulsing melancholic mirage of “Violet” to the seething twilit sandstorm of “Magenta.” Morgan and English are both adept at conjuring moods of muted grandeur, like landscapes veiled in dusk, still looming and luminous. Here their combined powers open pathways to heightened realms of deep listening and bewitching restraint, finding flickering infinities in ancient configurations of wind, brass, stone, and dust.

During the 1990s Shizuka self-released a series of four cassettes, barely heard by anyone outside of their inner circle. Culling together live recordings and home demos, these served as companions to the scant amount of proper Shizuka releases at the time (including the recently reissued Heavenly Persona). Concentric Circles is proud to present the third and most anomalous cassette from Shizuka, simply titled III, on vinyl for the first time in an edition of 500 copies. Formed by guitarist and singer Shizuka Miura, alongside husband Maki Miura, who’d previously played with both Les Rallizes Dénudés and Fushitsusha, the group known as Shizuka started in the early 90s with Jun Kosugi (also of Fushitsusha) on drums, and a revolving cast of bass players, including J.J. Junko, whose sole recorded appearance with the band is here on III. Devoid of any of their trademark noise and bombast, III feel distinct from their studio and live albums of the era, largely due to its fragility; haunted and spare, the songs revolve around Shizuka Miura’s gentle, unforced sighs, and Maki’s flickering, flinty guitar. The first side of the album features four songs – “For You,” “Lunatic Pearl,” “The Night When The Door Opens” and “To The Sky” – which will be well-known to Shizuka fans from previous recordings, but the drastically understated renditions here are particularly moving for their quietude and intimacy. The second half of III consists of a side-long duo session, just Shizuka and Maki Miura together at home, circling around the simplest two-chord...

Described by Sleater-Kinney’s Carrie Brownstein as “Mary Shelley with a guitar” and dubbed “a trailblazer and an innovator” by Lindsey Jordan aka Snail Mail, Timony has distinguished herself as one of her generation’s most influential. Although she has remained a cult hero and critical favorite since the early ’90s, Timony’s many triumphs have long been counterbalanced by crippling doubt and self-nullification. Her fifth solo album, Untame the Tiger, approaches these emotions head on. Her first solo release in 15 years is a startling document of an artist fully coming into her own power during the fourth decade of her career. It is the product of lessons learned during life-altering struggle. The mystical, acoustic-driven Untame the Tiger emerged after the dissolution of a long-term relationship and was bookended by the deaths of Timony’s father and mother. The album was recorded during a two-year period during which she was the primary caregiver for her ailing parents. The tectonic psychic shift Mary experienced due to this loss informs many of her lyrics.

When Irish-born Count Vaseline / The Mighty Stef songwriter Stef Murphy met Stiff Little Fingers guitar tech Jamie Mechan in Nashville, Tennessee, it began a musical partnership of the highest order. After cranking out a few tunes at Mechan’s fledgling studio, 302 Sound, the duo started recruiting other musicians. The band was rounded out by drummer Ryan Sweeney (Cheap Time) and Eli Steele (Sweet Knives.) Dubbing themselves The Sleeveens, an Irish term for a trixter, the band got to work. After recording and releasing their highly-touted “Give My Regards To The Dancing Girls” 45rpm single on Sweeney’s Sweet Time Records, they finished off their eleven track debut album. The quartet were soon approached by longrunning punk label Dirtnap Records for the album’s 2024 release. The resulting album is an homage to the kind of classic punk Chiswick, New Rose and Stiff Records were releasing forty-five years before The Sleeveens existed. With earworm melodies and screaming guitars, the foursome have crafted one of the best albums of the year. Murphy’s penchant for charmingly brilliant, matter-of-fact lyricism has a similar poetic quality as Mark E. Smith or Jonathan Richman. With expert mastering by Jim Diamond (The White Stripes, The Dirtbombs) to put the finishing touches on the sound, The Sleeveens is a record that is simultaneously uncompromisingly raw and thoughtfully crafted. “As far as I’m concerned, all and sundry can pencil in Stef as the Impending Punk Rock Van Morrison.” — Rev. Norb, Razorcake “Fav new band Stef & The Sleeveens...love...

Lower Form Resistance by Dissimulator

Dissimulator

Lower Form Resistance
20 Buck Spin

Montreal’s Dissimulator will be a new name to most in 2024, but with the release of razor-sharp debut album Lower Form Resistance the band unleash an overwhelming future shock on the auditory and sensory nerves, permanently imprinting on the cerebral cortex with their pulsating unconventional attack. Comprised of a membership with resumes that include Chthe’ilist, Atramentus, Beyond Creation and more, the band executes its jagged sci-fi death-thrash with vicious intricacy. Over the course of Lower Form Resistance’s forty-two minutes, the jarring angular riffs, complex structures and atmosphere of exuberant incongruity meshes acutely with a straightforward momentum and perpetual accessibility at the crossroads where the thrash and death metal scenes began to coalesce and directional potentiality feel limitless. Add to this a Voivod-ian prescience of robotic sentience and technological doom and Dissimulator’s vision makes for total immersion in their world-building enterprise. The off-kilter and adventurous spirit of Lower Form Resistance that manages to sound fresh today while conjuring a certain spirit of ’88-’93 makes the Dissimulator debut a mesmerizingly bizarre and gratifying dose of aggressive alacrity.

Ashes In The Huron River by Theophonos

Ashes In The Huron River
Profound Lore

***AVAILABLE ON EITHER BLACK MARBLE SMOKE VINYL OR BLACK CLOUD VINYL!!! Theophonos (ex-Serpent Column) and Profound Lore Records present Ashes In The Huron River—named in honor of the local woods and riverlands that continue to inspire this studio project. This record is an account of a life spent in the rotten heartlands of neoliberal capitalism and a tribute to the vibrant underground music cultures that thrived before the second half of the last decade. Expanding on the directness of Nightmare Visions—also from this year, Ashes is grander in scope, and is internally regarded as a more focused analog to Serpent Column’s 2019’s Mirror In Darkness. Hafsteinn Vidar Ársælsson’s dark and intricate illustrations once again accompany the music with striking depictions of abandoned landscapes, arranged to invoke a sense of catastrophe and unwilling transformation. Primary musical influences include Death Grips’ Jenny Death (which the record homages in its gradient-like structure, its centerpiece “Still You Haunt Me” even acting as a reimagined “On GP”), the downtuned hyperaggressions of Morbid Angel’s Gateways To Annihilation, and the cinematic, raw intimacies of Pelican’s The Fire In Our Throats Will Beckon The Thaw. Contributions include reamping and additional mixing by longtime collaborator Maya Chun (of screamo prodigies Heavenly Blue and countless solo projects) in the frigid spaces of Detroit’s Telescope Vision Studio.

Second Time Around by Ghost

Ghost

Second Time Around
Drag City

***REISSUED!!! Returned to us from early '90s Japan are the holy holy sounds of Ghost. Their collective, clearly inspired by various forms of transcendental music throughout history, created a new syncretic psychedelia with these albums, mixing the texture and vibe of multinational forms of traditional music, with strummed antique stringed instruments and the haunting wail of a recorder on top of their heavy beats and guitars. The considerable depth of this approach was explored through 2014 over another five Ghost LPs, as well as the further explorations to the present day of leader Masaki Batoh, as a solo artist and with The Silence, Damon & Naomi, Helena Espvall and most recently, nehan. These first three Ghost titles were originally released by P.S.F. on CD in 1990, 1992 and 1994, respectively, radiating enigma and energy in palpable waves with their original sound. After the acclaim that greeted Drag City’s 1996 US release of Lama Rabi Rabi, we quickly reissued all three on vinyl—and they quickly went out of print! At which point, Ghost had Snuffbox Immanence and Free Tibet ready to go. And then, Hypnotic Underworld. And then, and then.... Now, it’s been 25 years since they were last offered on vinyl. In the twenty-year sweep of Ghost history, these first three releases qualify as primitive early Ghost—sort of like a German Os Mutantes (or perhaps a Brazilian Amon Düül). The subterranean presence of a diversity of progressive/avant classic rock influences (Pink Floyd, Incredible String Band, Captain Beefheart, Scott Walker, Led...

***The Children's Hour is an interesting propostion—an early-aughts duo of Andrew Bar and Josephine Foster featuring her songs and singing. For an intended second album (after a first on Rough Trade), they were joined by David Pajo on drums, but this music ended up on the shelf for 20 years. It's busman's holiday Foster - something a little more wilfully guileless and indie-rockette than the mordant ghost-folk of her celebrated discography. Echoes from the misfit dancefloor that once cut the rug to later VU, Jonathan Richman, Hackamore Brick, Bobb Trimble, Beat Happening, Moe Tucker, Daneilsen et al. And are dancing still, we presume!

***Streamline is proud to present OG23, the first in a series of projected new LPs by Chicago-based composer Kevin Drumm, famous for his string of great releases on labels such as Sonoris, Mego, Moikai, Thin Wrist etc. Ever unpredictable, Drumm this time takes the fellow time-traveller through what sounds like an electronic field recording, a journey through an electronic soundscape of luminescent textures that invites immersive listening. The appropriately mysterious looking cover was designed by Christoph Heemann. Who wants to find out where that submarine is going?

***David Nance and the Mowed Sound, the first album by Nance to be released on Third Man Records, cuts deep. Memories sprout back, like the sounds of a great rock song blasting from the neighbor’s truck as it revs away into the night. There is a definite connection to the past, but the swinging guitar boogie and snarled blues you might expect from Nance and company sounds leaner and completely hypnotic. What remains are 10 tracks from a well-oiled group so rhythmically together that the songs on the album seem as connected as links in a chain.
