Jeffrey Luck Lucas

Jeffrey Luck Lucas is a singer-songwriter, composer, arranger, and also a former and founding member of the seminal 1980s garage band The Morlocks. He has three previous solo albums and has played cello for a number of artists that include Paula Fraser, Barbara Manning, Chuck Prophet, Steve Von Till, Neurosis, and more. Floors is a collection of nocturnal ballads that evokes the quiet, bittersweet atmosphere of a deserted city street after midnight, perfectly balancing vulnerable, romantic storytelling with a grand, moody, and deeply atmospheric sound. The wee hours of the night are conjured with Lucas’ droll, deadpan delivery, reminiscent of Leonard Cohen and Mick Harvey, featuring skeletal bedroom arrangements that accentuate the intimacy and longing at the heart of this highly personal outing. “Three in the morning. My spirit toll paid in spades—because the World is Wise—and walking home. I’m single more than less. I’m alone in the Womb and feeling it keenly. I turn on, then turn on the hums; we’re humming. It’s my Miracle Bedroom Studio. The space between my bed and the wide windows. Between 2008-2012 it was my sanctuary. I miss it greatly. Everything you hear on this record is me...humming. Taking off from wherever, no thought of landing. By myself, in the glowy dark, hushed singing and playing lest I waken the neighbors. All of them were meant to be demos for my band. Many songs fell away. I forgot about them. Eventually I was mining through old material with a friend and the Floors cycle came on. Responses were positive towards releasing it. So, here we are. Alex Oropeza and Desmond Shea had more than their hands full. God bless them! I had none of the original files, stems, etc., and all effects and mixes were printed. All we had were m4a files. I know. Well, Floors sounds beyond wonderful and is a dream come true for me. And Cristian [Lopez], who facilitated this release, created a true labor of love. He has approached this record with the same passion he lives his life and music with. Unique. Relentless.
