Copenhagen-based multi-instrumentalists Jason Dungan (Blue Lake) and Johan Carøe didn’t set out to make an album. Instead, as the title ‘Routine’ suggests, they found their way there through a process of habitual making and listening, developing an intuitive musical language to reflect the dreamlike meanderings and creative play of life's quiet moments. ‘Routine’ blends pop orientated sounds, Avant-garde minimalism, folk and new age with the emotive depth of film-score.Their meeting was not entirely coincidental. Previously in bands such as Squares and Triangles, Jason Dungan has since recorded multiple albums under the moniker Blue Lake, including the lauded Sun Arcs, pursuing his passion for self-built percussion and multi-string instruments. Johan Carøe meanwhile is a composer whose film soundtrack work has seen him collaborate with Angelo Badalamenti, Arp, and Sofie Birch, at whose Andersabo residency (curated by Dungan) the pair first met, resulting in the highly praised album ‘Repair Techniques’ written by Birch and Carøe.‘Routine’ emerged organically over many years against the backdrop of great personal change. As Carøe said goodbye to his father and welcomed his first child, the pair sent each other fragments of melodies and patterns, working up responses when time allowed to assemble a sonic palette that combined acoustic instrumentation of zither, clarinet, cello, saxophone (among others) with the textures of tape, drum machine and Yamaha DX7 synth. "For some fans, Health And Efficiency is This Heat's peak achievement – their most concentrated blast of visceral intensity and wayward experimentalism. Featuring two long pieces, the EP came out in September 1980. It was released on Piano, the imprint founded by David Cunningham of Flying Lizards, and distributed by Rough Trade, home of the burgeoning post-punk movement and fellow travelers like The Raincoats, Scritti Politti, Cabaret Voltaire and The Red Crayola. "Lead track 'Health And Efficiency' combines fierce angular rock that fully lives up to Cunningham's belief that This Heat could become a post-punk King Crimson, with a multi-part babble of vocals, clattering percussive timbres and found sounds. In a large outdoor space, one of the group played with sounds 'a bit like children,’ drummer Charles Hayward told one interviewer. 'Milk bottles, melodicas, woodblocks, little shouts. And just outside across the wall was an infant and junior school. So we put a microphone by the wall and recorded the kids at playtime.' "Flipside 'Graphic/Varispeed' is more subdued and hypnotic: a wavering tonescape whose duration depends on whether you play it at 45 RPM or 33 1/3. Singer-songwriter Willis Alan Ramsey was 20 years old when he became the third signing to Leon Russell and Denny Cordell's Shelter Records – after Russell himself and the legendary J.J. Cale. The result was Ramsey's 1972 eponymous debut, a masterpiece of laid-back Texas country-rock, blues-inflected folk and outlaw ballads. As a child, Ramsey was an obsessive radio listener – from Elvis and the Beatles to Delta blues, country and even classical music. By middle school, he had formed his first garage band and started writing songs. After a brief stint at the University of Texas, he took to the burgeoning coffeehouse circuit where he toured alongside folks like Townes Van Zandt, Jerry Jeff Walker and Keith Sykes. It was during these shows that Ramsey developed much of the material for his LP, a diverse yet coherent mix that revealed his varied influences. Recorded in Memphis, Nashville and at Russell's home studio in the Hollywood Hills, the album features some of the era's greatest session musicians: Eddie Hinton on guitar, Red Rhodes on pedal steel and the rhythm section of Leland Sklar and Jim Keltner. A true songwriter's songwriter album, its tunes have been covered by Waylon Jennings ("Satin Sheets"), Jimmy Buffett ("The Ballad of Spider John") and, most famously, Captain & Tennille ("Muskrat Love"), but no cover can beat the originals from the wise-beyond-his-years Ramsey. When GREAT FALLS released their NEUROT RECORDINGS debut OBJECTS WITHOUT PAIN in 2023, it sounded like a nuclear explosion, one of the most crushing and despondent albums ever to come out of the Pacific Northwest. Drawing favorable comparisons to artists like KEN MODE, CHAT PILE and OLD MAN GLOOM, it showed clear influence from seminal artists throughout its history, alongside a progression all their own.  Between legendary live performances at Roadburn in 2025, Northwest Terror Fest in 2026, direct support on BOTCH’s final European tour and a recent US stint with heavyweight juggernauts PRIMITIVE MAN, the band reteamed with Scott Evans (NEUROSIS, SUMAC, SHEARLING) for their follow-up. Dark Entries is Elbow Deep in the Hoopla thanks to J.D. Slater. Legendary actor, director, and composer J.D. Slater is sometimes known as “the Lou Reed of gay porn.” Slater cut his teeth in the New York punk scene, even opening for the Talking Heads and Blondie at CBGB with his project Frenzy. A true polymath of the erotic, he co-founded Raging Stallion Studios with Chris Ward in 1999, which has remained a prolific outlet in the world of gay pornography. Elbow Deep collects the scores from three late 1990s fisting-focused Club Inferno films: At Arm’s Length, Hand Over Fist, and Heads or Tails. Never before released, these works show Slater digging deeper into the electronic music production techniques that were blossoming in that era, like loop-based sampling. Says Slater, “Suddenly I could have access to every instrument in the world. My whole concept of sound and structure evolved with the technology.” The works here are trance-inducing groovers, laced with acid and dosed with brooding ambience. Check out the Gregorian vibes on “Grand Fuck,” the legato lurch of “Stallion Funk,” or the frosty atmospheres of “At Arm’s Length.” Elbow Deep in the Hoopla comes with an insert featuring an interview with J.D. Slater. Starkly sexy, these tracks remind us of Slater’s creed: “The main rule for writing a porn score is to remember what you are writing for.”

Dark Entries is Filling Your Silence with the help of J.D. Slater. Legendary actor, director, and composer J.D. This album collects the soundtracks from the first two Raging Stallion films - Sexpack One and Sexpack Two - to bring us nine tracks of sleazy beats and trance-like moments of pure ecstasy. Album opener “Seduction” begins with the iconic synthetic pan flute, one of the defining sounds of the 1990s, before pulling us along with its wild grooves. Halfway through its nine-and-a-half- minute course, it breaks down to bust out a jazzy electric piano vamp. “Running with Scissors” ups the tempo with some crunchy breakbeats to undergird its portamento-laced lead synth. Elsewhere, like on “Mercy” and “Mercy (2nd Movement),” we see Slater embracing a bleep-adjacent sound close to early Nightmares on Wax or 808 State. Straddling the boundary between discordance and serenity, Rude Films contrast light and dark to craft alt rock that is foreboding yet hopeful. Since 2018 they’ve occupied the dank mills of Manchester, heavily inspired by their precursors but determined to carve out their own sound. In early 2025 this fourpiece delivered their debut album, a self financed, self titled underground masterpiece! Initially a self pressed vinyl only release, sold only at shows and via their local record shop, Piccadilly Records, it was released as CD version later in the year to help get their music further afield. A wise decision. From the opening brooding moments of "Where Have You Been Lately?", the Manchester quartet explode into a cacophony of shoegaze infused noise-rock on "Mort Subite". From there, things don't even begin to slightly let up as Rude Films then slam into the monster that is "Death Hex". Pummelling walls of sound that act as the perfect statement of what this band is capable of. A statement of which carries on with the fuzzed out and driving "Religion" and the sprawling and frenetic "Serenity". Elsewhere, tracks like "Blood On The Tracks", "Wide-Eyed Boy" and "A Lonely Moon" take a more atmospheric and textually rich route, whilst the jangly and anthemic "You're The Image I Can't Forget" sets its sights on your heart. Closing up on "Black Snow", the entirety of the record comes to a cataclysmic crescendo with frontman Aaron Hill-Southern spitting his guts out over the Deafheaven-esque finale.

***Baltimore, Maryland’s The Unheard Ones were a mid-1990s emo trio whose brief but memorable run left a lasting impression on the city’s DIY scene. Between 1995 and 1997, the band played just 13 shows alongside groups including the Great Unraveling, Plunger, Harriet the Spy, Monorchid, and the Crownhate Ruin. Though their time together was short, their self-titled EP earned praise from Baltimore City Paper, which described the record as a “ménage à trois of feeling, force, and fragility.” Yet despite their impact, The Unheard Ones’ studio and demo recordings have largely remained... well, unheard for nearly three decades.That changes now with Stories and Songs, a collection assembled through the efforts of Colin Seven from hardcore band Universal Order of Armageddon, who championed the reissue project and connected DIY label Handstand Records with surviving members Tim Kabara and Lisa Starace. ***ANIMAL PISS, IT'S EVERYWHERE started in 2018 when Clark Griffin and Shannon Ketch started writing songs about cheap wine, themes on Jesus, tributes to bands like the Fugs and Boa Constrictor and the Natural Vine.A tape was released by Tony Pasquarosa's 4th Eye Musick that circulated among hardcore scene ramblers and record heads across the US. It seemed like interest was growing, so Griffin and Ketch started to ask the hot players around Western Mass and New York if they wanted to lend a hand and the band then started with members of Rhyton, Pigeons, Bunwinkies, Gluebag, Wet Tuna, Salvation Alley Band and BLAMMO!Soon enough, in 2022, they decided to record their first record with Mike Fellows behind the board. That record came out on the Half A Million label in late summer 2023 and sold out quickly, so they put together short tours where songs like 'Hot Sewage,' 'Naked' and 'Pink Dolphin' seemed to get people off their feet and out their minds.Then they decided "well, fuck it, let's record a second record!" This one, to be titled "Grace," had some beach'ier vibes while poking a little more at class warfare; Mike Fellows engineering again. It came out dual-released on Half A Million and Sophomore Lounge. ***Scream and Soulside first played together at the Cubby Bear in Chicago in July 1988. After a few more shows together that year, they didn’t share a stage again until July 2022, at the Inne Brzmienia festival in Lublin, Poland. There in Poland the two bands met minds, and a match was struck. Soulside and Scream soon released new albums on Dischord Records, then toured together in the US and Europe in 2023 and 2024. This 7" is a gathering of forces and musical admiration to spread a message of love and a lifelong commitment to the struggle for true American justice. “Laissez-Faire” was written by Scream and first appeared on Still Screaming (Dischord, 1983). This version is performed by Soulside and was recorded and mixed in June 2025. “Reconstruction” was written by Soulside and first appeared on A Brief Moment in the Sun (Dischord, 2022). This version is performed by Scream and was recorded in September 2024.

***"Black Editions Archives presents Live at the KiMo Theater Albuquerque 1979, a major new archival work by the late Cecil Taylor (1929-2018). Pianist, composer and bandleader Cecil Taylor's capacious and audacious originality reshaped twentieth-century music. In an astounding act of artistic forbearance spanning sixty years of performing and recording, Taylor didn't win over so much as wear down the jazz establishment through the force and brilliant execution of his ideas. His methodologies and language, if studied at all, remain unassimilated by the twenty-first century jazz mainstream and its institutions. Lincoln Center turned the house lights on during Taylor's first performance there (2007), a stark reminder that in spite of Guggenheim and MacArthur Fellowships and increased respect among some of his tradition-minded peers, the shock of his music had not diminished and he was still an outlier, if not an outlaw, presence. Live at the KiMo Theater Albuquerque 1979 captures Taylor on November 20, 1979, during a rare tour of the American West with a then newly reconstituted quintet formation of his Unit. An ensemble in regular flux from the mid-1970s onward, only two members of Taylor's 1978 Unit, violinist Ramsey Ameen (1945-2019) and alto saxophonist Jimmy Lyons (1931-1986) — the bel canto voice of every Cecil Taylor band since 1961 —made the trip with Taylor to Albuquerque. ***Hyperspace instrumental ambient series continues the line of experimental compilations featuring two artists (one side each) exploring their individual take on the ambient genre. Pressed on orange vinyl. Steve Thomsen: His stream-of-conciousness soundscapes, free of conventional instrumentation and structure, kaleidescope through time and space amalgamating the conceptual strengths of music one finds the most intriguing: the entrainment drones of ambient music, the factory-noise barrage of shoe-gazer bands, the dissonant tone-clustering of Ligeti, the impressionistic narrative of symphonic tone-poems, the inscrutable bleep-blorp satellite telemetry of 1960s-era "computer" music, the haunted Forteana of his former bands Monitor and, of course, the improvisational chaotica of Solid Eye, among others. Caveat Emptor are Kirk Hellie & Edward Giles Southgate performing on custom built electronics, SIEMENS crosswave system analyzer, circuit bent effect pedals. All tracks were originally recorded in 1997 in North Hollywood, California through a 24 track soundboard directly to a ADAT digital recorder. No overdubs or editing were used on these recordings. Some ultra high and low frequencies below 15 hertz were lost due to equalization and compression to avoid digital clipping.
